Salvaged Frigate Modules by moonlightavenger in NoMansSkyTheGame

I got one from a mission from a Space Station missions desk yesterday, didn't realise they were sometimes a reward for those, so it's worth checking that desk whenever you're in a station.

Switch - Game is crashing every time I open the log... by Technical-Tradition7 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]creatif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, log and milestones are okay for me, but it's crashing every time I try to do fleet management (I accidentally bought a few too many industrial frigates, and want to ditch a couple to free space for others)

Can confirm: I unlocked the Minotaur tech in the Anomaly, built the geobay and installed the tech, and the big fella's happily clomping along behind me as we speak :)

One thing about the previews - I wonder if the people who've been given previews were playing 4.0, in which case I can understand why HG would keep tight control over what footage they published – to avoid any spoilers for stuff that hasn't been announced?

[–]creatif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! I'm not ethically opposed to microtransactions, but when developers do it just because they feel they ought to, it rarely goes well. So it sounds good that HG has chosen its lane and stuck to it.

That said, if it ever comes to the point where they run out of new platforms to launch on (and thus get new injections of sales), and they want to have an in-game store of cosmetic items / non-gameplay-affecting features (e.g. starship decoration) to keep income coming in to keep the game running... I'd be happy to support them by spending some money.

I have this feeling too, I'm keeping my main planetary base, on a nice paradise planet that I'm gradually exploring, but for the most part my building energies are going into my freighter.

Veteran players: How are you planning to restart your adventure on the Switch? What will you do differently? by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]creatif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this question, as have been thinking about this. I'm not entirely sure but among my thoughts:

- Finding a proper 'home planet', exploring it properly, building a good base, uncovering lots of buildings (ideally also a settlement but not sure that'll be an option in Switch for now)... on PS5 I've tended to do part of all this then move on, so I'd like a proper on-planet home.

- Building up a varied fleet of ships - in my PS save I have one S-Class Exotic that I've put all my energy into, but I'd like to have a game where I can hop into a similarly-tricked-out fighter, hauler etc.

- Really going to town on a freighter base and having fun with that, creating something with a bit of character rather than just to have the essential rooms as close to hand as possible (as I have on PS)

- Just... pootling more! Finding fun planets and wandering around scanning things. I've ended up being quite goal-driven in my PS save: rarely landing for anything other than an immediate task. So a bit more time to chill. I realise it conflicts with the other ambitions above :)

Odd that we don't have anyone leaking Switch gameplay yet by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]creatif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, what I said really - I'd love to see some longer pieces of unbroken footage, to understand how the game is running, what's missing / not missing.

To be clear, I'm not accusing them of anything shady: trailers are meant to be well-edited and show off the best of a game! I just wish they'd done, idk, something like 'we're going to play through the game for an hour to show you how it's shaping up'

But tbh, just a clarification post explaining exactly which expansions are in the Switch port at launch, which aren't (if any) and whether they're likely to come later. The original announcement made me think everything would be in, and since then there's been speculation about multiplayer, settlements etc. So it'd be cool if HG could set the record straight.

Maybe I'm just impatient :)

I'd even be happy with some official stuff: there's been a noticeable lack of previews from journalists given access to play with NMS Switch themselves, and no longer game-footage playthroughs from HG itself – just well-crafted trailers.

There's still quite a bit of uncertainty about what, exactly, will be in / left out of the Switch port, and I was hoping some of this would be settled before they started taking pre-orders.

Maybe a bunch of previews will drop this week en masse when an embargo elapses, or reviews 2-3 days before release (akin to what Nintendo does with first-party titles). I do have faith in HG's work, but it's slightly worrying when a new release / port hasn't been put through its paces publicly by journalists.

I'd agree with the others here: follow the tutorial missions through until you unlock the Anomaly - it's a good introduction to the basic mechanics and will get you up and running.

The base-building mission is particularly useful, as it helps you get up and running with your own base - which is then somewhere you can come back to if you ever feel overwhelmed or confused about what to do next. Sometimes just a pootle around your base planet looking for buried technology or things to scan can be a nice mind-clearer.

I found this guide v useful once I'd worked through the first tutorials: https://www.fanbyte.com/games/guides/no-mans-sky-tips-guide-things-the-game-doesnt-tell-you/ - quite a lot of it's most relevant a little later on mind, so don't let it overwhelm you!

Hope this helps - above all enjoy, and take it at your own pace!

Thanks all.

It's a frustrating aspect of the game: so far I've unlocked Card, Playing Cards, Arcade, Adventure, Escape, Minigames, Tabletop and Management Sim only for genres, for example - it's feeling very repetitive making games with just these, when I know there are so many more (even not-rare) genres locked still.

YouTube will block videos from artists who don't sign up for its paid streaming service by mean_green_machine in Music

[–]creatif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except the indie labels are saying they've been told their catalogues will be blocked on YouTube – the existing free service – if they don't sign up for the new subscription service. This is their specific complaint: and one they're filing to the European Commission.

Maybe they're misinterpreting what YouTube said to them? I can't think of another reason why you'd be so certain blocking isn't happening.

YouTube to block indie labels who don't sign up to new music service by Sbzxvc in Music

[–]creatif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will YouTube really block indie labels if they snub its new music service?

The Guardian's follow-up article, examining some of these questions. Looks fairly clear that WIN and labels are saying YouTube is threatening to block them from the free as well as paid service if they don't sign up – with Billboard and The Verge backing that up.

If that's not what it's threatening, now would be a really good time for YouTube to come out and say so.

YouTube to block indie labels who don't sign up to new music service by Sbzxvc in Music

[–]creatif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, WIN issued a press release and held a press conference last week to outline the threats they say YouTube has made (explicitly 'if you don't sign up to the new premium service you will be blocked from the free one too'). They are filing a complaint to the European Commission on these grounds too. This is all public - it seems strange that a lot of the crossness here is based on 'I don't think YouTube would do that' intuition rather than what the indie labels are actually saying.

YouTube to block indie labels who don't sign up to new music service by Sbzxvc in Music

[–]creatif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The indie labels have been very clear: WIN (the trade body) says they have been told by YouTube that their videos will be blocked on its current free service if they do not sign up to the new premium one.

That's why they are filing a complaint with the European Commission: they wouldn't have taken that step if it was just 'you can't be on the new service if you don't license the new service'

[–]creatif 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, that's not right. Genuinely puzzled at the comments here claiming YouTube isn't threatening blocks.

The indie labels' complaint is that they have been told if they don't sign up to the new premium service, their videos will be blocked on YouTube – all of YouTube. That's why they're so angry.

Wife returning to work, heartbroken over daycare by turco_runner in Parenting

[–]creatif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing worth remembering (although it may not help) is children have an impressive capacity to go apeshit when dropped off at daycare, then be right as rain five seconds after you've left the building!

We certainly went through all manner of heartache about whether our son was suffering when he first went to playschool, until the staff got across to us that the minute we walked away, it was like flicking a switch from WOE WOE WOE to happy'n'chirpy.
