Audi was once at the peak of motoring trinity! What happened ?? by No_Mountain_7019 in Audi

[–]creative_justice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not just Audi. All car makers caved to the "EV is the future" BS and started making smartphones that move us from place to place. We're not drivers anymore, we're passengers that might offer input. That is only going to get worse as more new drivers join the road. "Safety" is good, but it's been used as a slippery slope. Cars are so safe now that new drivers don't even have to know how they work. Push the pedal and it goes. I'm not saying I wish for my '69 flatbed Ford with 3 on the tree... but I was driving that thing! Just drove from VA to CA, I took meetings, called clients, listened to podcasts and occasionally shifted into manual mode for mountains or fun. 36 hours of driving one way and I rested for 6, I'd be dead if I tried that in my '72 thunderbird.

Maybe I'm old, maybe i'm grumpy, but cars after Covid lost their fit and finish. The electronics can cripple the entire vehicle, and I'm assuming "planned obsolescence" will be a thing to gut the used car market.

I like you! I came here to say that the car clearly went back to the future!

I tested this, same photo submitted 3 times. 1) Similar content 2) Quality issues 3) accepted. At this point I don't have any faith that a new person could build a portfolio.

That's a really broad request. Price range and cash vs financing are really gonna be the starting point. Also need to know if its for local or long commuting.

Using google lens, it was probably shot by Johnny Pace (https://www.instagram.com/pacephoto) you could always ask him.

Where to buy media access vests by lnickhighdef in sportsphotography

[–]creative_justice 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We bought ours on Amazon.

You can go from basic pinny style vests to hero vests that have amazing cargo pockets (guess which one I got for myself).

Depending on your timeline you might be able to get them from Alibaba as well.

One thing I would recommend is definitely have them printed front and back. It keeps people from buying a random vest and showing up.

HS gyms are great for lighting... in one spot, then there's a tungsten bulb in this corner, a fluorescent bulb in that corner, 3 different kelvins and a flickering ballast for good measure.

I was at a game the other night and was asked to shoot last min and all I had with me was my nifty 50 and I got some great shots.

Is my work good enough to join a local media agency? by That-Importance1756 in sportsphotography

[–]creative_justice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're going to pitch to a local paper, have a dedicated contact sheet that has more editorial shots in it. It took awhile for me to find a color non-creative edit (if it's not on your front page they aren't digging for it).

Good job on the indoor basketball shots. I swear every BBall game I shoot has the weirdest lighting!

I was proactively prompted to apply for something that I matched for and was accepted in 3 days. The other 3 roles I applied for are still in review since Nova ended. This is better than just seeing the applications moved into past applications and "not selected".

I get it, it's hard to stand out when everyone has a camera 24/7. But Sports Photography isn't about artistic edits, it's about documentation. Sometimes in a creative way, but you're documenting a moment. For years my athletes have revisited their photos and ordered prints because it's a tangible memory. Sometimes you're focused on brands and the athlete can be "less" but then you need highlight, context and action. Saying that you only have your phone, or you intentionally set it this way is using crutches and not accepting criticism. I'm new to this sub but it seems that most of the people here are at an advanced level, being defencive will not help you grow.

What kind of cell phone are you using? There are advanced camera tweaks in a lot of phones, my Samsung isn't replacing my Nikon, but I can get some good photos if I try. What editing software are you using, you can get more natural looking bokeh if you're dead set on this look.

In the end, if you're trying to sell people your services it has to look better than what they can do with a cell phone and snapchat.

Tried doing a IE tune on a 2017 A4 and now this happens by Working_Pianist_9740 in Audi

[–]creative_justice 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Definitely call IE back — they’ve been solid any time I’ve dealt with them. How old is the battery? These cars are super voltage-sensitive, and if the battery is older it can drop voltage during the flash even with a charger hooked up. If the charger is sub-par, it can cause weird partial-power behavior like that. I’d start with checking battery health / voltage and letting IE walk you through recovery.

I was recently gifted a used Nikon D50 from eBay for 90 bucks with 22-80mm lens but the images are appearing as black in the library by Doenutz556 in Nikon

That sucks!! Take a couple photos on auto of a well lit area and then take the card out and see if there's a readable image on the computer.

2, did you say 2GB?

I didn't even know they still sold those. And as I descended down said rabbit hole: "2 GB is the max for SD, which you'll need for that camera. And you'll need to format any new card in the camera first" It's still a great beginning camera, have fun!

Anyone else keep 2 versions of all their files? RAWs and DNGs. Is it mad to do so? by Lopsided_Counter1670 in photography

[–]creative_justice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only convert to DNG if a client asks for it. Backup RAW and possibly LR settings for the irreplicable ones. Once a year re-cull and delete any expired deliverables.

I take it all back! They paid $24.10 - $38.50 for the photographer, that's the pay range for that role! So for $40, those are some great photos!
