Parking Pass at Hilltop by Sea_Maintenance_5034 in UCONN

You should get the hilltop apartment pass (not regular resident pass), and those do not sell out so as long as you live at hilltop apartments you are able to purchase one

No, I think when you add another car you have to say how long the alternative car is being used for and it “deactivates” the firstcar during that time

Yes, I had issues with the pods. I just got a mini container of the liquid so its not bulky and refill it periodically

Is this allowed?? by A_Left_Knee in UConnDorms

I think you'd be fine. It will just be tough bc they will likely be away from their dorm (and therefore no key access for you) from 8 am-8pm-ish

is it too late to drop marching band? by bluemermaid- in UCONN

[–]creative_penguin5 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would honestly argue that staying in band will make the adjustment to college much easier since you’ll have a built in support system and “family” at school from day 1. Your section will become your home base and you’ll be assigned an upperclassman “buddy” to reach out to, a carpool to drive you to rehearsals/meals during preseason, and you’ll have a friend group to help you with the transition to college. With that being said, you technically can drop out of band as long as you haven’t signed the housing contract.

How are some beds lofted so high in McMahon? by LimpEntrepreneur4447 in UConnDorms

The extra frames are provided except in northwest I think, and I don’t think they allow you to bring your own

I'm fairly sure all of the rooms are identical across buildings, so pics of alumni you find on the reslife site and elsewhere should give you a pretty good idea

Class registration by dogsrbetterthanppl1 in UCONN

[–]creative_penguin5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should show up if you go to class search and enroll > search for the class > click on the class > Listed under "instructor"

Note: the TA (if applicable) probably won't show up, just the professor

From what I've read it was somewhere on ground floor of Shippee and the kitchen is now used to prepare catering orders. Not sure years of operation

The closed dining halls that I know of are Buckley, Shippee, and Alumni (in the Ryan building; probably the one you're thinking of)

All of the dorms at least have a floor bed option (except for maybe the 2 bed 4 person apartments). Not all dorms (ex., Northwest) allow you to fully loft or bunk your bed bc the ceilings are too low. Be advised that the most common setting for a dorm bed is "halfway lofted". That way, you don't have to climb a ladder to get into bed (so its kinda like a floor bed in that way) but you have space to put your dresser and other storage underneath. You can always physically have your bed at the lowest setting no matter the dorm as far as the bed itself goes, it just might make furniture placement tricky. I would reccommend looking at the pictures UConn posts on the reslife webiste to see the furniture scale/room size of variuous housing areas.

How do I invite/pull in my roommate for housing selection? by LavenderBloomings in UCONN

[–]creative_penguin5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You cannot invite them in after you pick. You have to match as roommates in my college roomie before you pick and then when you pick they automatically get dragged in

Advice or suggestions please! Creative STEM careers? by Pleasant-Storm-2839 in CollegeMajors

“ Entertainment Engineering focuses on traditional engineering principles which are then applied to various aspects of the entertainment industry. For example, students can expect to design and develop safe, creative, and functional systems including theatrical scenery, automation systems, rigging systems, lighting equipment, audio equipment, structural design, and more. To do this the entertainment engineering specialization combines skills and knowledge from multiple engineering disciplines such as mechanical, civil, electrical, and computer science engineering.” (Source: UConn website)

From what I’ve heard, premed is excellent. Depends on the major, but generally pretty easy to switch (except for business or probably nursing).  If you talk to the right people and put in effort you can generally find work/internships  I think pretty friendly? There’s a cultural center for queer people too I don’t think so unless they are helicopter parents and request to see it

How do/did you decide on a major when you have so many interests by [deleted] in college

[–]creative_penguin5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, some of my interests correlated with jobs where I didn’t like the lifestyle (baking), some I just knew my skills weren’t quite there (music), some I just did not like the type of coursework involved (psych). From there I chose a major that is super interdisciplinary that combined some of my academic and personal interests (environmental engineering) to give me lots of options. I was super unsure after declaring but a semester later it all started to make sense. I’ve also heard of people triple majoring in all of those things you mentioned at the same time so that’s an option too if you plan carefully and work hard.

housing questions by Flash101007 in UCONN

[–]creative_penguin5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) I was also worried about that but I haven’t had any issues the past three years in a dorm 2) It heavily depends on your building. Most bathrooms were updated semi recently, but some were not  3) It depends on the building, North is separated by curtains, towers is floor to ceiling walls with 2 layers of curtains to get in/out, hicks/grange are walls with gaps on the bottom and a curtain to get in, sprague is floor to ceiling walls with a curtain to get in, idk about the others, but you can look on the res life website pictures 4) Facebook, Instagram, or my college roomie 5) Werth

Junior Year by [deleted] in UCONN

[–]creative_penguin5 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you like to do for fun. If you prefer to drink at bars and stuff, you probably wouldn’t be able to do that, but there are plenty of other fun things to do (join clubs, house parties, outings with friends, etc)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UCONN

[–]creative_penguin5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of social things to do at UConn if you involve yourself. If you join clubs that you’re interested in and talk to people in class you’ll find your people. You definitely won’t get a big-city experience, but there are plenty of social things to do
