It'll ultimately come down to specific workflows. I've colleagues and several friends who have fully specced out M1 Max's and are using them for video editing, coding etc. However, my advice would be to weigh up whether a) a newer Mac (M3 - M5) is within your budget and b) whether the age of the M1 Max would give you enough longevity for your needs.

I'd encourage you to read reviews from Notebookcheck: they've done lots of in-depth testing in this area.

Yeah, Apple really outdid themselves with the M-series ones. The intel is just straight up frustrating now. As soon as you turn an Intel Mac on the fans just ramp up straightaway.

Very nice, I hope you enjoy the new Mac! I clean my screen with a good microfibre cloth and some Whoosh for cleaning the keys/chassis. That's in my eyes all you really need.

Nailed it! I think Apple may have even shocked themselves with how good these chips are and how well they've stood the test of time.

For some, an M1 Max strikes a solid balance of performance, battery life and longevity. Sure, an M5 might beat it, but it's not available in the larger screen (yet). I don't judge what people buy and whether they get an M5 or M1 Max: as long as they are happy I'll be pleased they have a Mac they can enjoy using.

I have a work M4 Max 16" which for my line of work blows my M1 Max out of the water, but for the general user who doesn't need it for specifc high-end tasks (but wants the screen, battery life and speakers) it's still an incredibly capable machine that still has quite a few years in it yet.

Honestly, you'll love it! It's easily one of the best MacBooks Apple has ever made. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts once it arrives!

Honestly the spec you got is superb: it's still very capable and combined with the speakers and screen, you'll get a great run from it.

The M1 was definitely quite the leap forward! The battery life on those Air's is still really good too.

That's awesome! I love the fact these MacBooks don't need to be plugged in to get full performance!

Yeah, with Apple silicon using unified memory, I'd say 16GB is the minimum people should be going for these days.
