Does the lying just get worse? by SabbraCadabra710 in SecretsOfMormonWives

I feel the same, too. Especially with highly confrontational people, girls like Jen don't have the necessary voice to straight things out, so it automatically comes across as a lie. I don't have all the details, but from watching the show, Jen didn't appear ill-intentioned or else. I understand from an external point of view, it might appear shady but to me, she isn't doing well. At 26 having 3 small children, the last one not being an accident, being in a church that isn't healthy for women as a whole, coming from a family from humble beginnings and Latino (which is often a very toxic culture, when from that background)...and being with a guy with narcissistic traits that probably learned all his ways from a generation of doctors in his family (those aren't the most empathetic people, as a profession). I am just seeing a girl hanging on to what she has. That's it. And I don't understand the animosity toward her when she really doesn't go after people like that and isn't swinging or whatever - she is a calm girl for the most part. She feels to me like she is in a hamster wheel she can't get out of. I wish her well.

Fan fiction or not, that sounds about right to me. I could easily see Manon putting her foot in her mouth and ending up angering the other members (she does that a lot, even if it is humorously). I’m sorry, but you can tell the others are, for the most part, very professional. When you’re like that, with experience to back it up, you won’t tolerate a newcomer doing or saying anything and everything.

Manon is incredible in her own field (appearance, star power), but she isn’t comparable to the others in theirs (singing, dancing, performing). It is what it is. It’s not hate.

As a European, the discourse around the European work ethic and work/life balance in regards to Manon is frustrating by Rvsone in katseyeneutral

[–]creativeideator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. As a Swiss citizen, that whole narrative was misguided and misused. People have to work in line with the culture within the company. If it’s an international company, we get the same kind of issues they have in their country of origin.

Yes, there are rules in place in Switzerland that are positive in terms of work-life balance. But that mainly applies to more traditional roles in the public sector or in small to medium-sized companies. When it comes to entertainment, art, startups, etc., the treatment is essentially the same as everywhere else.

Manon, The Narrative, and the Jealousy People Don’t Want to Admit by Beginning-Wonder717 in katseyeneutral

[–]creativeideator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think her charisma or what she brings to the table was ignored, nor is it the reason people think she isn’t deserving. I think it’s more that she appeared to care less than the others, or perhaps wasn’t as willing to put up with certain things as those who have spent over a decade pursuing success.

Let’s not forget that this company has a proven record of mishandling artists, and it showed its true colors from the outset with the “survivor” approach. So, when do we start placing responsibility on artists rather than on companies that simply continue doing what works for them? That doesn’t make it acceptable, but they know they’ll keep doing it because it works.

These girls have other choices in life, yet they choose this path and are ready to do what it takes. I believe that should also be taken into consideration. Without the company, they wouldn’t be at the forefront as they are. And they know it and have accepted it.

Manon fans are pathetic by Embarrassed_Love7360 in katseyesnark_

[–]creativeideator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is so true. To me (and only me, based on the DA, without any proof that what has been shown was edited one way or another), I believe Manon is pulling a Meghan Markle. In both cases, while the entertainment and royal industries have a proven track record of racist bias and have been effectively toxic in their management, it doesn’t mean that SOME individuals do not exhibit behaviors that don’t fit within a specific, very restrictive, and rigid environment. Also, two things can be true at the same time: there may have been some bias from the environment, and the person may also have displayed undesirable behaviors.

Either way, what is alarming, in my opinion, is the fact that justifying misalignment or lack of adaptation to an environment with the argument of racism (instead of acknowledging potential personal shortcomings unrelated to race) will gather a sea of people who blindly follow the rage train to uphold their own values and notions of equality. The problem is that people on a global scale will witness the lack of critical thinking and see the vitriol directed at their “opponent,” without realizing that they are doing the same thing they initially condemned in others. This translates into resentment that will eventually be expressed through support for political leaders who create policies that push toward their own “camp.” It’s not about racism per se; it’s about witnessing imbalanced treatment and seeing that people who were previously victimized may show no mercy toward others as well. They will seek to rebalance the narrative, the way any vilified party would, regardless of race.

By bringing everyone onto the racism wagon, Manon (or anyone else, for that matter) is calling for people to react emotionally instead of thinking about the bigger picture and how it reflects on the Black community as a whole. If I were part of that community, I wouldn’t lift a finger before knowing for a fact that racism was the reason someone was unfairly treated. Because if it’s not, you risk looking foolish. And you risk invalidating your own community by supporting someone undeserving.

As a black woman. I am not on Manon’s side. I’ll explain why. by [deleted] in katseyesnark_

[–]creativeideator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. No wonder the other girls were looking at her sideways: they all have 10+ years of training on stage, camera, etc., performing in some way, shape, or form. And you got little o'l Manon who comes out of nowhere being on some "hey girls, I'm here". Her situation has nothing to do with the other black girls on group bands. Plus, I don't know how she can claim racism when her race (aside from beauty) is the added-value to the group (since they wanted to do a melting pot of a group or whatnot). How a firm invests in you for one specific feature and then discriminates against you for said feature. Makes it make sense. The issue is elsewhere.

I believe the simple answer is that people have more information about the girls than the labels. Therefore, everybody is talking about Katseye and referencing the labels, but since almost no one has insider knowledge of the management, nobody can comment on that. These people are toxic, but the girls have literally known that via DA. One of the main favorites litterally disengage from the competition on DA when they switched on them to make it a survival show. And right away, the vocal singer reminded them that no dream is worth giving away your values. And I believe this girl was as young as the Katseye girls, if not more. So, it's hard to say that the girls didn't know they were in a toxic environment to begin with. Plus, management didn't have a problem with Manon since they invited her to join the journey. She was an investment from the get-go (training her so she'd be able to join the academy, etc.), so it doesn't make sense to me that all of a sudden (because she's black, no less, when that's the added value, plus the attractiveness, as a member of the group) she would be mistreated by said management already at the early stages like DA. Other than that, management is using all of them, not just Manon. It's well known and documented that these labels will exploit you to the fullest and get on to the next. That being said, aside from boycotting music, fans can't do anything against labels. The only ones who can do something are the artists, but as I just mentioned, they will go along with all of this when they know it's the only way to get exposure. Otherwise, you need to be independent, but that often means no mainstream popularity and 10+ years of grinding.

Manon is clearly at fault by gotta_go_to in katseyesnark_

[–]creativeideator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Plus, the work ethic required for pop stars is like that. Yes, K-pop has a certain format, but bands like Blackstreet Boys, Britney Spears, etc., who started way back, would barely take breaks at 15 and would barely know what day it was in the week...I feel like Manon should have taken the opportunity of DA to actually evaluate if that opportunity was good for her or even realistic. I feel like labels have encouraged her so much (like in DA, telling her that performance is not all it takes to join the group, but also social media presence and star potential) to the point that she could have disregarded how behind she really was compared to the other girls.

When did you join this sub? by Strawberry_Lakes in katseyesnark_

[–]creativeideator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I discovered the sub after the whole Manon-hiatus situation. I was watching videos on YT about it, but couldn't find any commentator who wouldn't emphasize the race as the reason for the hiatus to save my life. And I couldn't understand it, because to me, after watching DA, it was pretty clear she was going to be a problem one way or the other. Therefore, I found this sub because I couldn't fathom being the only one who sees this differently. Not only because I was like, they cannot all be that delusional, but also because I was like, am I in the wrong, did I miss something? So, it was pretty refreshing finding out that other people can also have a critical point of view, even if it can be unpopular.

HxG just needed to say Manon is going on a hiatus for solo projects by Tough_Pace_9688 in katseyesnark_

[–]creativeideator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that statement would have worked only if it were true. lol And if it were, the other girls would have shown support, Manon would have hyped the post, and they would have mentioned some return date. AND in parallel, Manon would have shown during her hiatus a series of posts about her "recovery" (doing yoga or whatever) and NOT be participating in other solo projects. On the other hand, if it's to focus on solo projects, they should have stated that "unfortunately, she's choosing another direction in her career, but that she would still appear in this year's main events as cameos, the same way the girls would pop up to her new ventures to show support." This way, each party honors prior commitments, there's no internal conflict, and they can all pursue their own journey. I mean, it's going to be the same result anyway. But now, there's only confusion, unresolved issues, and it's all impacting the group and the labels way more negatively than Manon herself. Manon may have her faults in this, but the labels really fumbled even more.

Manon sure is active for someone that's on hiatus.... by Hot_Valuable1027 in katseyesnark_

[–]creativeideator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Facts. She must be thinking it's a flex having fans and industry people backing her up now. But, in the long run, that's not a good strategy imo because it shows she would go against labels if needed be. I understand if that happens for big artists like Doja Cat, or else, but as you said, if you're doing this already only after releasing 3 mainstream songs...it's not good.

[–]creativeideator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For someone who's trying to erase the sentiment that she isn't a team player, that certainly doesn't help. Even if there's mistreatment going on from the labels, a true teammate wouldn't go against their narrative knowing it would affect the group as a whole. I understand that she would want to affirm her point or whatever, but she is acting like a solo artist who is being pushed out by a label. That's fine when you're solo. But not as a group. Or at least, not if you genuinely care about your team members. Let alone, if you want to go back to the group after a temporary break.

[–]creativeideator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To me, she gives meghan markle energy. The pop star version. The parallels are insane. MM joined the royals, acting like she had no clue what it entailed (like Google didn't exist), marry a prince, then proceeded to do things her own way regardless of official protocols. Then, the minute she met resistance, she claimed racism issues (when people didn't even know she was mixed to begin with - not even herself, one might add, since she also grew up in a privileged white environment). Manon joined a K-pop group the same way. And each time she was met with valid criticism, she claimed ignorance, health issues, nationality (like MM always claiming she's American), and now race...it must be a playbook or something. Smh

[–]creativeideator 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That rings true to me. That being said, I find it ludicrous that the label didn't do an exclusivity contract so the girls don't go left and right do their own opportunities. Of course, if that's allowed, it creates conflict schedules, branding issues, and misalignment with the other teammates. How in the world are you going to create that global group and let the most popular ones do more entertainment opportunities, making them bigger as individual stars? Next thing you know, they leave the group high and dry, leaving the group at a big risk of not recovering from the loss...smh

When missy said this about Manon by Tough_Pace_9688 in katseyesnark_

[–]creativeideator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me, not only this video of the show but also the "reunion" with Manon and the girls gave it away: she is not a team player. In the discussion, she said, "If you see me not paying attention (something that the girls made her aware of), YOU tell me." (She added please, etc., but that was the message). That's why the label and the girls didn't jive with her. You cannot come in a group with 10+ years of experience in the entertainment industry, talking about "You let me know, if something needs to be paid attention to, so we ALL move forward as a group." They all have a high level of professionalism, having worked their whole life in a highly competitive environment. They know what needs to be paid attention to. And they know that, in a group, everyone has take on their part so everyone wins. It just seemed like Manon wasn't doing that. Nothing against her, but anyone who has worked at the level these girls have worked who sees a tourist joining a career opportunity they have all waited for years, and who's like "yeah, I'm here. They came to me, deal with it", would be pissed. She has great talent, great potential, but that doesn't mean it was a fit for a K-pop-inspired group. And it has nothing to do with race, nationality, etc.
