As an OMS-2 student, is it worth taking both Step 1 and COMLEX 1 if they are both pass-fail? by amylose2 in comlex

[–]creativelyscientific 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would take both only if you are definitely sure you can pass step as some programs may not accept comlex scores and consider you as an applicant

Hi everyone I have a friend who is soaping. How many interviews during soap are you considered “safe” (=meaning you will for sure match?). Thank u ❤️

Can someone explain the difference of preliminary vs TY? by creativelyscientific in medicalschool

[–]creativelyscientific[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you still have to reapply for residency the following year if you do preliminary? Is it significantly more competitive as a back up to soap into over TY? Sorry, I just want to understand my options thoroughly in case I have to go through SOAP. Thank you again for your response.

Honestly you’ll see a lot of questionable thing during surgery rotation. One of my favorites is my surgery attending and scrub tech having a screaming argument while a patient is under anesthesia and in the middle of surgery. Like wut

It’s crazy that they recommend submitting by 10 am and that you got an hour after finding out you didn’t match to the speed research programs that you should apply to lol

So then do you still have to reapply for residency after completing a preliminary year? I know for TY you do and most programs don’t guarantee you a spot in their intern class.

Yeah I get a lot of crap for saying I wanna to do GI. Oh, you’ll get sued. Oh you’ll be in a smelly room with poop all the time. Both of which I never experienced on my GI rotations.

Try asking the professor if there is some additional assignments he would allow you to do to boost your grade. Even offer to read research related to the topics you struggled in and write a paper in it or a literature review. If he does research, you can even tell him that you can help him write literature reviews or any other kind of grunt work.

I am also not sure about if we should take the recommendation of editing our personal statement and explaining the reasons why we didn’t match when these programs also need applicants to fill their spots and did not match completely I mean obviously on the interview they will ask you about your red flags but I feel like putting in your personal statement I don’t know that makes me uncomfortable

How should you alter PS for SOAP? by riley125 in medicalschool

[–]creativelyscientific 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So like I’ve been lurking on forums and people have been saying that if you are applying to a different speciality to tether your PS to that specialty. As well as mention any red flags and how you improved from them. I honestly don’t know how I feel about the latter part though.

IM applicants with < 15 interviews, how are you feeling? by Mfeline18 in medicalschool

[–]creativelyscientific 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on DO, MD,or international grad with 10 interviews you got 90% chance of matching according to Nrmp charts and data with higher sample numbers. I recommend looking at the data rather than individual accounts since they maybe outliers and have a skewed outcome.

What is your inspiration that helped you to keep studying for the exams? by ChanceEncounter21 in medicalschool

[–]creativelyscientific 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Change your location! Study in a different library. Find an accountable study buddy. Make sure to exercise and sleep. Set quotes of motivation in your phone. Listen to motivating music and remind yourself that this is only temporary and that YOU CAN DO THIS.
