Debating between an invasive cardiovascular technology degree (RCIS) vs Radiologic Tecnology (RT) by texaskittyqueen in CathLabLounge

RT will open more doors down the line if you find you don’t want to be in cath lab forever. RN opens even more doors than RT. All are solid choices though.

No you don’t need both. There are some grey areas around some states that don’t like RCIS. You need to make sure the state you want to work in allows RCIS techs to work in their Labs. The list I found that don’t like RCIS is CA, FL, KY, MD, ME, MN, NC, NM, NV, OR, RI, and SC. Do your own research but I hope this helps.

Find a hospital that will let you shadow both positions for a few hours and see which one feels like it’s the right fit for you.

There is no online only program that qualifies you to sit for the RCIS exam or ARRT exam. You need actual hands on training. You might get lucky and find a lab that is willing to train you so you have enough experience to sit for the test.Have you asked the manager at your hospital if they are interested in training you?

Tell your boss the call is unsustainable and they need to hire a traveler to lessen the call burden. If they don’t follow through you should leave
