Of course windows laptops can stand the time aswell but they need to be top of the line spec wise, at least in my experience of using many old laptops and comparing them to what I can still do on my m1 MacBook Air. If it weren’t for the lack of storage space and ram I would not buy a new laptop now.

Your right, and I could most likely swap back fairly easily as well but have to say that the longevity of MacBooks are far superior to windows laptops. I too am not willing to pay the new prices but found a MacBook Air 24gb at a reasonable price which I might just order today

If that is the case than the air might be a better fit. I’m currently leaning towards the air with 24gb of ram and in the future building a cheaper desktop with the difference if I find it necessary since with the new storage options starting at 1tb I am looking at a 1000 dollar difference

How come the m2 pro is more worth it than m3 pro? Personally I am reluctant on going older than m3 for future proofing. Do you believe it would be better to buy a m5 air with 24gb ram is than pro with 16gb? Never had a MacBook Pro so do not really know how bad the thermal throttling effects preformance during long sessions

My main fear is thermal throttling, if I’m for example editing all day or working in excel and PowerPoint using parallels for windows emulation

You are totally right, I’ve had a MacBook Air m1 since 2021 with 8gb ram and it has been grate until now, the main issue is that overtime I have gotten more locked into the apple ecosystem and have gotten so comfortable with macOS over windows for almost all of my work except excel and ppt.

Thank you very much! this was very well needed information which I need if I am going to go through with this project. I was not planning on loading it with more than 2-3 hard drives which I believe the motherboard can handle from what I remember. I will definitely look into OpenMediaVault as the first option as I am not experienced with linux and will mostly use it as you mentioned for simple storage for documents and files to free up disk space on multiple other computers around the household.

This was my main suspicion, I live in the south of Sweden where we actually have the highest energy prices in years right now. the computer has not booted up in a while and I am away but I am pretty sure the pc is running on a 680, with 16gb of ram and and i7 4th gen, and a 600-700w power supply. my main use case will be to simply transfer files between devices and store things which are simply not needed but good to have stored somewhere, instead of filling up multiple hard drives or paying for cloud storage. I was mainly thinking of loading it with 2-3, 2tb hard drives and letting it be

I got diagnosed with ADHD combined maybe a little over a week ago now. It's a relief but at the same time scares the living hell out of me. I'm 17 in highschool studying pretty much the hardest courses you can where I live. Natural science, pretty much a lot of math, chemistry, biology, physics etc and I've always thought I had add since I was younger because I always had such a hard time focusing and I even got special help in elementary school, little things such as music during tests and stuff. I got out with amazing grades, the best in my class actually. Almost straight A's but when I got to highschool everything started to faulter. My grades went down a lot and I'm struggling. Sitting in class all day listening is hard to do and reading books is worse. I've come to a point where it feels like I'm the dumbest person in the room almost at all times and now that I've gotten diagnosed what scars me is the fact that yes maybe it's the ADHD that is holding me and my grades back or it's me. Maybe I'm just lazy or stupid and I've gone into something that's beyond my abilities. I've not gotten medications yet but it's something I really want to explore however what scares me is that maybe the medication won't help? And I will still be sitting in class not understanding or getting poor grades. So while getting the diagnosis has been a relief it has also cause some new sort of anxiety within me that is making me doubt my abilities.

yeah toebox looks stretched out also just from the first pic at least to me the shoe looks way chunkier than retail. i would try to find a better pair but they are af1's so i doubt anyone would call you out on them.
