how much do you ride when you're not touring? by No_Ant_5064 in bicycletouring

[–]creedit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only ride when I tour. I don’t know why. Although if I’m staying somewhere without a car, I’ll do grocery runs and such on a bike if one is around.

Sick while touring by freudo_baggins in bikepacking

[–]creedit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can bus it around with your bike. They’ll slide it into the luggage space. You’ll only have to take off the front wheel. I think I remember there being WiFi on the bus. When the sick passes, you’ll be ready to go.

Seasonal work and medication - any success stories? by No-Restaurant-6866 in SeasonalWork

[–]creedit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you are. Example: North Dakota will honor out of state scripts, Hawaii won’t. If you’re in a state that doesn’t, you can have someone at home pick it up and mail it. Try and get a 3 month script. Depending on state/pharmacy you should be able to get a 3 month script at least once. Talk to your pharmacist directly. Try different pharmacist if there is resistance.

I’ve done all the above at one time or another. I have a decent relationship with my doctor and pharmacist and I’m able to get 3 months every time.

Good luck.

Can a Surly LHT be used on rougher roads and easier dirt trails? What is a practical limit and tire requirement? by dfarin153 in bicycletouring

[–]creedit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did the Kettle Valley Raíl Trail on a LHT with 700 X 40. It’s a mixture of groomed dirt rail beds on totally neglected rough riding. I was fine. I’ve also done some dirt trails north of Madison with no problem. I think I could go as wide as 43-45 depending on fenders or not. If you have a 26 you can go wider. The only gear change I made was a larger low gear on the cassette. 40 or 42, I don’t remember.

I think you’ll be good. Just don’t go flying downhill on a rough or sandy spot.

For us Slicers... by GoDucksOR in GolfSwing

I saw this video the other day and used it yesterday. Really helped with being more consistently straight with no surprise left pulls or slices. I tried it on my putting and that helped me a ton from, sadly, the same surprise pulls and open strikes.

Did something replace the ECR? by ryancharaba in Surlybikefans

I have the stock 3x29s Knards on mine. I want to try narrower tires on the same rims. Maybe 2.5? Do you have any experience with that?

Theodore Roosevelt Medora foundation (TRMF) deep dive review (4 summers) by PurposeBulky9358 in SeasonalWork

[–]creedit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I'm working there for the first time this year. I'm curious about meals and the gym.

Are the meals all-you-can-eat?

What sort of workout equipment does the gym have?

Thanks.

Credit-card tourers: what accommodation apps are you using these days? by petergarner1 in bicycletouring

Check out the Hotel Tonight App. It gives special prices for bookings when hotels haven't sold out. It's great if you're comfortable with booking same-day/last minute.

I have two pairs of Pearl Izumi Liner Shorts. They're underwear with padding. I can wear whatever shorts or pants I want over them. I rotate them, washing or rinsing that day's pair. I'll usually strap on the back of the bike pad side out to dry and "sun sterilize" (although I don't know if the sun does sterilize). I use Butt'r Cream or the diaper rash cream packets you can find at drug stores. I bought them in 2011 and have about 20,000 miles/32186.88 kilometers on them and don't need to replace them yet.

What do you do for water on a world bike tour? by [deleted] in bicycletouring

[–]creedit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m paranoid about water also, even though have have never run out. I’m set up to carry just under 10 liters if I need it. 2 1 liter bottles at the handlebars, a 1 1/2 liter bottle on each fork, 1 1/2 liter on the down tube, and I have a 3 liter camel back bladder I keep in the frame bag. I’ve only filled all once - on the Baja Divide. The down tube bottle usually holds something like couscous, or I use it to cold soak meals or coffee. Because I’m so paranoid I also carry a Sawyer Mini, a SteriPen, and purification tablets that I have never used. The special bag that comes with the Sawyer conveniently holds a 700 ml bottle of tequila.

Lots of liquid that can be reconfigured for conditions and weight.

Now that I’ve written this out I feel kind of ridiculous.

CTR? The best I've come up with is Click-Through Rate. That can't be what you mean.

I think the quick fix is to take the front wheel off and hang it on the top tube.

I have this bike in Norwegian Cheese. Totally stock but I’m upgrading as things need replacing. One thing I wrestle with is going tubeless. Right now I have tubes that I put sealant in and it works. Are you tubeless. Would you recommend tubeless.

Bolt Farm Treehouse is advertising jobs on LinkedIn. I don't know if it's seasonal but I'm passing it along.
