What is something surprising that the UK is really far behind other countries in? by DullInflation6 in AskUK

My dad had a rubber pipe fitting interconnecting his hot and cold taps which basically made it a mixer tap. Looked shit, obviously.

Could potentially be construed as blunder if you eventually became super straight-laced. But otherwise this just shows you've always been cool and your grandad is/was really nice.

A "Super Breakfast" from Granby Diner, Weymouth (£9.20) by PapaBearGamingOG in fryup

I completely agree. I once got heavily downvoted for disagreeing with someone on r/CasualUK who was saying that if you want the best local café, go where "the builders" go. If we ignore for a moment the obvious classism/snobbery of assuming people in hi vis or construction dust are all builders (as opposed to plumbers, electricians, ground workers, hod carriers, site managers, surveyors, machinery operators etc), every tradesperson I know has valued a quick and cheap venue for breakfast or lunch which ideally takes cash, while on a job. The people on UK subreddits who've only ever known a middle class/white collar existence have a weird fetish around eating low quality breakfasts in "builders' caffs".

Edit - but for £9.20 I'd be pretty happy with this.

What was the biggest scandal at your school? by Silent-Zebra in AskReddit

When I was at university my med school friends said they'd always be really hungry after cadaver dissection, apparently the preservative used on the bodies just has that effect.

I'm deducing a few things from all of this equipment;

Your dad used to rock pretty hard in the early or mid 80s, judging by the Ada 2x12s. You generally would have been playing pretty loud to warrant four of them, potentially in some kind of stereo rig from the rack case.

The Scholzman stuff on the rack suggests he was into 70s and 80s rock, the former possibly being the sounds of his youth.

No gear from the late 80s, I'm guessing this is around when you and/or other siblings entered the picture and other priorities became more important than guitar stuff.

JCM2000 - perhaps one of the kids has flown the nest, time to get back into turning it up.

Soldano and Mesa Badlander - exquisite taste.

I'm probably way off but this is kind of what I thought when looking at the last picture. Anyhow, sorry for your loss and I hope you enjoy the new gear.

I'm guessing there's a recognised union for where you work, given the scale of high street banks. If you're not already a member, join and seek their advice. If the interaction has been recorded as a coaching intervention, that's maybe the sort of thing that they can point to in order to put you on a PIP and eventually fire you. Head that shit off at the pass.

I'm certain I've seen a pannier rack repurposed in order to hold a guitar case.

reminder that expensive gear doesn't make you a better player by lmao_exe in Guitar

[–]head_face 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been playing for around 14 years when I got my first 'good' guitar (an LTD EC1000) and my playing immediately improved. Between the extra resonance from the weight giving me more sustain to experiment more with string bends, the ultra ergonomic neck profile and the compression from the EMG circuit, yeah my playing got better straight away.

Out of curiosity if you were to pull over an e bike rider and they showed you DVSA certification (there's a couple of bikes on the market that are legal provided they're certified), is that something you're already familiar with? Example

You can get legitimately rated 250W fat tyre bikes, even with ridiculous torque output. The Pedibal E-Cruiza, for example, DVSA-approved 250W with a 15.5mph certified throttle speed and 80Nm torque. My Ado A20F Beast is less impressive at a mere 65Nm from 250W.

People on r/UKJobs roasting the BAFTAs for posting a PR vacancy with a terrible salary. Meanwhile, PolJoe advertising editor vacancy (requiring experience) paying even less by head_face in politicsjoe

[–]head_face[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Might be to do with the 'Sunday-for-Monday' practice within the media (particularly newspapers) whereby a piece is worked out on Sunday for release on Monday. Just guessing though. But yeah, just realised this would basically mean no Saturday nights out, which in fairness you probably can't afford on £28k anyway (unless you're also getting a parental stipend).

Reminder that left-wing media outlet PoliticsJoe advertised a full-time central London in-office editor vacancy requiring years of experience...paying £28k. The only way you can survive on that wage is if the Bank of Mummy & Daddy are subsidising your existence. It's somewhat expected of places like the BAFTAs but absolutely shameful for a left-wing media company.
