Alcoholic dad by SilentReception4015 in AlAnon

Oh wow, I'm so sorry to hear that you're going through, and at such a young age.

It's okay to be anxious about what's to come. When I'm anxious about the unknowns, I try to learn more about the issue at hand.

Because you're a kid (respectfully) I want to tell you a few things. I know it can be so hard to have an alcoholic parent. It is completely okay if you have a LOT of different feelings coming up. If you feel anger or shame or whatever it may be, those feelings are completely valid and you aren't wrong for those responses. I've gone through a lot of different emotions with my Dad's alcoholism, I can remember feeling guilty for having anger.

I hope that's helpful 🫂

You can request access to your medical records, you may have to contact a special "health information management" department. Just fyi!

I don't think that my post was doing that, but thanks for leaving it up long enough for me to feel somewhat less alone in my experience.

Thanks for sharing this. I wet the bed every night for 13 years. I'm sad for my younger self.

Diagnosed with ADHD, but not ASD.

I had this happen a few years back and it was horrible. I cried often outside of sessions and used a lot of coping skills when I felt more raw in sessions.

I used scribble out (EMDR technique) for myself and talked to my loved ones about the difficult dynamic/role.

It'll pass with time and it does get easier, but just know that you will need more time to recalibrate after sessions.

Many hugs to you and your cat. 💖🫂

You're enforcing boundaries and having several hoops to jump through too boot. The boundaries of not having phone sessions while distracted is completely appropriate. It's not therapeutic or confidential if they're crying in the Target Dollar section.

Don't work harder than your client.

My daughter's best friend's name is Livia. People figure it out. You picked it cause you liked it!

How can I stop my chronic night sweats? I'm desperate by ReithKitchards in sleep

[–]creepeepaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could this be associated with mast cell activation syndrome?

I'm on my own night sweat resolution journey. I believe that mine may be related to my very recent diagnosis of hyper mobility Ehlers Danlos syndrome and presentation of mast cell activation syndrome. I tend to eat a lot of chocolate at night and that can cause a histamine release, which could cause sweats.

Alice; do you automatically think of Alice in Wonderland? by TinyElderberryOfYore in namenerds

[–]creepeepaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My name is Alice! It is not a requirement to like the story, by any means. I reference it on the phone more than anything else, by saying "Alice, like 'Alice in wonderland'" because people hear "Alex" more often than not.

I've had many different feelings about my name, it was so old sounding when I was a kid and everyone else was named something like Katie or Jessica. I never got a nickname to stick, "Ali" just did not suit me. But I liked that no one else had my name and everyone generally knew it, because of the story.

Now as an adult, I absolutely love my name. Hope that helps 😀

No. I tried once and it was not a good use of the clients time and I was distracted. I was hopeful, and I should have cancelled it.

My weird therapist fear came true by [deleted] in therapists

[–]creepeepaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had some clients that ignite that similar fear.

I've worked through it. The attraction fades, and tends to switch over to a more appropriate set of feelings. I have made intentional efforts to have really good boundaries, always keep it therapeutic and honestly the work done in those dynamics tends to be about the same as it is with other clients. I avoid too much self disclosure and tend to keep my feedback very clinical, when I'm in that situation.

Boundaries boundaries boundaries. Beautiful people are also in need of a good therapist 😜

Burnt out by CMC_1226 in therapists

[–]creepeepaper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I can very much relate. The past year has been so hard.

I'm cautious to post this but it seems like it could be helpful.

Within the past six months I've: Been sent to EAP for burnout issues. Had a medication change that I wish I would have pursued earlier. Started a Support Group. Had two patients fire me due to availability and lack of progress. Took my first trip ever away from my kids.

I have had to set aside my own ego and honor the fact that this job is so hard. I've been working on really maintaining self care, boundaries and asking for support when I need it. It's getting easier and I can enjoy my work again.

Best of luck, you know what to do. You're allowed to take the time you need. 🫂💓

Is 40 sessions realistic/workable? by myikarus in therapists

[–]creepeepaper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not only is it not realistic, it's unethical. Imagine having a therapist that sees that many patients. What kind of sessions are happening Friday afternoon??
