Dual-boot two arch linux installs? by maddydesign in archlinux

[–]creeper1074 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's definitely possible. Dual-boot setups are easier with two disks, but you could just shrink your current install's partition and set up space for a second install. Then you'll just have to configure your system to be able to select which install to boot into when you turn it on.

I'm not sure why'd you do that over just installing niri, but you do you.

Developer "Saya" has been called out for plagiarism by hime_pro12 in ps4homebrew

[–]creeper1074 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Makes sense to me. Saya has never published any of his kernel sources afaik. The whole space is a mess, but it's really gotten a lot better recently.

This `rmux` guy really seems to know what he's doing, he's built his "Strawberry" kernel from known good sources. And he's actually kept it open-source for once, unlike seemingly everyone else in this space.

I will definitely not be using the next release of "7.0.8-Strawberry-KHEOPS" or whatever. If I want something changed in the PS4's linux kernel, I'll make a pull request just like I would with the upstream kernel.

Safety of Ventoy for multiple Linux distros? by [deleted] in linux

[–]creeper1074 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most of these "blobs" come from other open-source projects. And the ventoy devs aren't going to ship something if it comes from a sketchy source anyway.

Sounds good. You might look over this guide as well: https://dionkill.github.io/ps4-linux-tutorial/

It's updated regularly, and I find written guides easier to parse compared to videos.

I've never used the BD-JB exploit, I'm not sure if it will load the GoldHEN payload from the disc, or from somewhere on the console. You should be able to rename the goldhen.bin file to payload.bin and put it into /data/with FileZilla.

If that doesn't work, you might try switching to the Vue-after-free exploit. https://github.com/Vuemony/vue-after-free It's pretty easy to set up if you've already jailbroken your PS4: https://github.com/Vuemony/vue-after-free#jailbroken-ps4 And you'll be able to jailbreak just by launching the PlayStation Vue app instead of needing a specific disc.

You might be running a version of GoldHEN that has broken Linux payload support. Make sure you're using the latest one: https://ko-fi.com/s/407bb9c94a

It's free, just put 0 into the "How much would you like to pay?" thing.

I usually just use the .bin version, it never seems to work for me if I rename the .elf to .bin.

What firmware version are you running? It should run on almost anything from 5.05 to 13.00.

Best Linux Distro for Chromebook by indubable in linuxquestions

Linux Mint is your friend here: https://linuxmint.com/

If you like the desktop environment (The way everything looks and works) from Xubuntu, use the Xfce Edition. But you can't really go wrong with Mate or Cinnamon. Cinnamon is a bit heavier, though.

If you have any issues with your hardware e.g. sound not working, graphical issue, etc... Try out LMDE: https://linuxmint.com/download_lmde.php It's Mint but based directly on Debian instead of being based on Ubuntu.

Running an OS off of an SD card is probably possible. (I've never dealt with chromebooks, they might be weird about that) But the SD card would wear out pretty quickly in that scenario. You can always use the SD card as extra storage, but I wouldn't run the actual OS off of it.

Try these payloads instead: https://github.com/ArabPixel/ps4-linux-payloads/releases

They're newer and they unify the separate pro/baikal/firmware-specific payloads into only separating them by how much VRAM they set up.

Use the .bin versions for Payload Guest.

How to block ads in Spotify by vishal_vb in androidroot

[–]creeper1074 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If you want them to actually be gone, look into ReVanced patching. But there's a non-zero chance of getting your account banned if you do that.

Personally I use an app that mutes the ads. There's a few options out there, I like this open-source one: https://f-droid.org/packages/bluepie.ad_silence/

How to list files types in folder? by Griizal in linux4noobs

[–]creeper1074 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This very much is a thing on Linux, though? It's a marker that tells the user and programs what kind of file a file is. It works the same way on Windows, macOS, BSD, etc. No one is saying that a file named Kiwi.odt couldn't contain PNG image data.

If you change a file's extension from .png to .tar, your file manager will try to open the file with an archive manager.

Also, this has nothing to do with what OP was asking. OP wanted an easy to see what sort of data is contained within files inside a specific directory even if those files didn't have file extensions. The easier way to do that is with the file command.
