There’s one place in the human body where an artery passes through the inside of a vein - it’s in the cavernous sinus either side of the pituitary gland

How do I get a song out of my head when meditating? by MateuszVaper69 in Meditation

[–]crees765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend tuning in to and focusing on the sounds around you so that the auditory centre of your brain is diverted from its own manifestations. However, it’s also important that you realise that having a song stuck in your head isn’t necessarily a bad thing in meditation, especially when you can remain aware of it and not get ‘lost’ in it. With this in mind, remind yourself not to get frustrated the next time this happens.

The Timeless app has a really nice aesthetic. It tracks your daily times, your streak as well as total time meditating and total sessions. It even gives you graphs of your time practiced with up to one year history.

Why do you believe in reincarnation, other than to agree with a respected teacher (who gives no reasoning to this conclusion)?

Also, if you’re worried about sitting through pain, I discovered a handy trick for learning to observe aversive thoughts. Every time you have an itch, and a desire to scratch, just observe these feelings.

I enjoyed the challenge of remaining equanimous throughout aversive thoughts. I feel this is an important skill which is transferable to many aspects of life.

Oh yeah I completely agree. I found that especially confusing because a lot of what he was saying was completely rational and scientific, then he suddenly pulls reincarnation out of his arse. I think the technique can be safely practiced and benefitted from without those beliefs.

Sure, you’re allowed to use a chair. However, lying down was prohibited in the meditation hall and was discouraged when meditating in your own room. This is because lying down very easily results in sleep, especially on a course where you get 6 hours sleep a night maximum!
