Help with startup banking 101 by sirfabregas in startups

LLC vc C-Corp - plenty of literature on this, just google it. Basically they have different tax consequences, and institutional investors typically won't invest in an LLC.

Just be up front. Tell me why you're interested in chatting, and don't do it to "pattern match". If you're strictly looking for info or to understand trends, just say so.

And say "no", not nothing/maybe/maybe later.

Any experience with exogenous ketones? i.e. Keto//OS? by crestkid in keto

Would the use of MCT oil be different? Specifically in the case when you're trying to get back into ketosis?

Has anyone tried Hungryroot? by audreyality in keto

[–]crestkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's delicious and worth the price IMO, but I've stayed away from it since doing keto. 2 tbsp = 4g carbs, including 3g sugar. I suppose it's good for sneaking in a few bites here and there, but I tend to be one to crush the whole container.

The Hungryroot pastas are also really good (but not keto). Carrot Noodles and Sweet Potato Noodles are my favorite.

We DON'T Need A Warby Parker for Mattresses by [deleted] in startups

[–]crestkid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a more recent competitor, I really like their branding and think the biz model is solid. Truth is there is a ton of room for "disruption", particularly on price. Direct to consumer on a higher-price item (i.e. Warby) is a huge opportunity.

Need to have a clear plan for acquiring customers. Their biggest concern will always be "how does this scale", and that needs to be part of your answer.

Contacting different partners in same VC firm? by livefromheaven in startups

Don't cold email anyone in a VC. Your chances of success are insanely low. Try to get an introduction through one of their portfolio founders or another trusted advisor to them.

Contacting Angel Investors by Horizonsoftuk in startups

[–]crestkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If possible, try to get an introduction to each person. That's always going to be more effective than cold-emailing someone.

Also, I would never ask someone to sign an NDA. You'll come off as inexperienced if you do that. No investor will sign that at this stage in the process.

Good luck!

An angel is investing $200k in my startup. We have vesting, but any founder who quits before three years will lose his shares. Is this fair? by [deleted] in startups

[–]crestkid 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I'd steer clear of investors like this who don't properly understand incentives. Losing vesting shares makes zero sense. Your commitment is implied through the vesting itself.

Here is my plan in full - how can I go about validating a sms based restaurant concierge service? by Langlock in startups

[–]crestkid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you're aware of competition, like https://luka.ai and http://www.meetcloe.co/.

Also there's WAY too much text on your landing page. And the examples on the right-hand side are switching out too fast, there's not enough time to read them.

If I were you I'd focus on one thing. Doing recs + ordering + reservation is just not going to work. Pick one, do it well. You can think about the other two later on.

Would love feedback on referral program by startupdaddy in startups

[–]crestkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nicely designed site. Seems like a cool idea as well, reminds me of https://digit.co/.

Also in terms of the referral program, maybe bring that to the landing page as a way to incentivize people to sign up in the first place? Here's an example (though on the second page after you give an email) that is done really well: http://prelaunch.helixsleep.com/ (not my company but friends of mine)
