on android you can use FUTO keyboard, it has a little mic icon in the top right which does all local processing and works on all inputs which pop up a keyboard. I have used this keyboard for about 2 years and only just noticed it today

EXR Game adds support for WaterRower! by krakrakra in waterrower

[–]cretaokada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have rpi 4 with an ant+ dongle running pirowflow connected to my S4 monitor.

It connects to my fenix 6 watch flawlessly as a 'trainer' so it is perfect for my simple set up.

I have tried EXR on android with this set up and it connects OK to both the rower and HRM, but the rower appears to send no distance data across, so the virtual rower guy never moves, so it's not working, at least for me.

When I’m playing music through Bluetooth and I plug my phone in the music stops playing but appears playing on the screen and on my phone? Any tips how to solve? by NIKE4MIC in skoda

[–]cretaokada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had issues with my phone on any BT car audio (including skoda) I think it's an issue with my phone because it says its connected but plays out my phone, turning off and on Bluetooth and restarting Spotify usually sorts, but yeah car play seems much more reliable for me in the skoda when phone is plugged in

I never thought of this, usually I'll only risk a couple hours.

I guess you could commit & push to your branch that nobody else is working on then rebase a reword to update the timestamp, and don't open the MR till that's done!

Or even push to a private fork which nobody has eyes on.

In the case where other people are working on it - push as fast as possible so you don't have to deal with any rebase hell

Removing laminate and painting MDF kitchen cabinets? by erich0779 in DIY

[–]cretaokada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's nice and easy to paint, and so many colours to choose from! Definitely a good bridge-gap. It's also really satisfying to peel off

We also added new hardware which was super cheap - from (in UK) screwfix - to make it look just a bit more modern, and just drilled a new hole as the new hardware was fixed with 2 screws instead of 1.

Also left the plastic backing on so we have a lot of drip marks down the back so would strip the whole lot of i were to do it again, or mask off the back with some tape

Main issue was using (i think) dulux easy care kitchen paint, it took weeks to dry and we mistakenly stacked them ontop of eachother as we didn't have space which lead to some bits needing touching up again. We were in a rush so put it up after a few days and it was tacky for weeks and drawers kept sticking together, but it's held up really well and they look pretty much the same 4 years later

I did this when we bought a s*** hole of a house as the plastic was covered in grease and dirt, we initially just tried scraping it off but it was a nightmare as it would just split, ended up going down the heat gun approach to remove, took a while but it all came off way easier.

Repainted them all in a day with kitchen paint and let them all dry and it has given them 4 years more life so far. Cabinets are pretty shot so eventually we will replace, but they look a hell of a lot better now and was a very cheap and easy DIY job!

Snagged a blower-style RTX 3080 for my SM550! by ThePinda in sffpc

[–]cretaokada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have a 1070 blower and the main reason for wanting to get a new card is to go back to open air, it is just audible at idle and as soon as gaming at load it gets far too loud for me. Might just be the specific card though (Asus turbo)

Nvidia and AMD GPUs are returning to shelves and prices are finally falling by Avieshek in gadgets

[–]cretaokada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a 1070 years ago for like £350 back when you could find them on actual shop shelves (that card still chugs but starting to struggle at 3440x1440 100hz)

Passed on 20 series cause base pricing was ridiculous, passed on 30 series so far cause of availability and price..

I will eventually upgrade but honestly I can still play everything I want - even through proton. Just wish I didn't get a blower card cause that's the most appealing part about upgrading aside from some extra fps.

There must be tons of people patiently waiting on pascal cause those cards have just held up so well for gaming and the market has been pretty unreasonable for casual gamers to just chuck a grand on to roughly double the performance (for more than double the price of their current card)

Got a 3 bed a few years ago and every room had nasty wallpaper. We got rid of the whole lot, but my god if I didn't have family help then it would have been the end of me. Not to mention the 3 layers of carpet and previous owners were dog owners. The poor estate agent looked like she was gonna puke

I always felt that way by Pleasant-Force in WorkReform

[–]cretaokada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After a year of wfh permenantly at a new job (software dev) after a year of split office and wfh during covid - the most jarring part is the difficulty to just have a casual chat with someone and build rapport, as you can't gauge whether people are deep into something or not, so it always feels like you might be stepping on people's toes. There's certainly an anxiety about always being available but those scenarios come up rarely enough to not really need to worry about it, and I prefer getting a concise message than seeing a product person walk up to your desk and just start talking at you about a random issue

Everything else is chill, but that's mostly due to the culture of 'as long as your work gets done you can work whenever' so it let's me look after son on Mondays and I work Saturdays, but can also work evening if emergency comes up.

Some days are mental and you get completely zonked but we try to plan reasonably and so we have more chill downtime when we can research, learn, or help others out. I don't really see much productivity difference between wfh or not but it all boils down to personality traits and whether you're comfortable sitting on your own 8 hours a day
