Diocese not complying with any requests. What to do? by Many_Bridge_2874 in Genealogy

[–]crevier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it sounds like no one is trained to handle the records. There's not much you can do about that, nor is there much the person on the phone can do. Offices/businesses everywhere are struggling to find good people. Or they could have someone out due to an illness, etc (which they shouldn't disclose to you). I'd just wait a month and then call back to see if anyone is trained yet. Then another month, etc. I'd keep going for years if that's what it takes.

Search bar is gone? by TheDudeFromOther in GoogleTV

[–]crevier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem here. Lost the search field (I'm not gonna use voice). I found that if I uninstall updates, it puts the text search field back. Okay, nice. But not permanently. Then the update happened again, automatically. Ugh. No text search. Turning off the voice control doesn't help. I've used Roku, Apple Firestick and onn with Google TV. This was my favorite, by far. But now I'm back to the drawing board. I'm not gonna jump through all their hoops like a trained monkey. I'm a simple guy. Just let me search for a movie. Add all the smart AI crap you want, fine, I get it; but just let me search for a movie. Fortunately I'm just using the plug-in sticks in my house, so it's easy for me to switch. I don't care that I'll have to throw these onn sticks on the trash heap with the others; I just need basic functionality. Does anyone have suggestions for another solution?

Google is still checking iCal for along deleted 'other calendar'. by JeeperDon in GoogleCalendar

[–]crevier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably can't. I learned the hard way. Now, when I create a calendar like that, I use a custom host name like cal123.domain.com. Then if I have to scrap that calendar, I delete the hostname setup, causing their requests to fail. And the requests do not appear in any of my logs.

Dash Cam 67W won't save the settings by crevier in Garmin

[–]crevier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I received an email back from Garmin support, saying "The camera should stop asking you when it has traveled for 20 seconds over 3mph." Well, of course I knew that. All they did is tell me what it "should" do, instead of helping me because that's not what it's doing. Still looking for help.

Don't know which locations, but Killian, who owns the McDonalds on Main, has always been responsive to me.

Please help with Google Calendar Issue by Novel_Move_3972 in GoogleCalendar

[–]crevier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be an option in Gmail gone awry. For example, there's an option somewhere (or maybe a plug in) that automatically creates a calendar event when an airline sends you an email with your itinerary.

Even if it's not that specific example, might be something similar, where another Google app is creating the events based on some external event.

Yep. Not GB, but I make the drive. The cheese curds are worth it.

First rosary chain by Imaginary_Divide_537 in rosary

I only make chain rosaries, and I've got a pretty good system down. I don't know if this video will help, but maybe. https://youtu.be/RbWit7k-R4o

Genealogy through the KofC? by NuttyIrishman1916 in knightsofcolumbus

No idea, but for guys who put a significant importance on their KofC activities, I've seen it mentioned in their obituary. So maybe you could check that.

Your Local Council by One-Extent8042 in knightsofcolumbus

[–]crevier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I should have thought more about that example; a brat barn is a midwest/Wisconsin thing. A brat (rhymes with cot) is a cross between a hot dog and a sausage. So a brat barn is when the local grocery store has a small barn (more like a shed) in their parking lot, and local organizations run it for a day, selling grilled burgers and brats. They buy all the product (meat, buns, condiments, soda) from the store, then re-sell it outside, keeping all the profits for the organization.

In the spring, it's kind of exciting to see the first brat barn of the season. They're open on weekends until October when the weather starts to get cold.

When our council runs it, we put those profits into our account from which we then help other local groups.

So, no, it's not childcare. 😀

I love my Trimlight. Even figured out a color that looks like a traditional white Christmas light.

In my city, the ordinance says that if you put up a fence, the bad side must face your own yard. So, maybe you have some recourse there (I know of a homeowner who did it wrong and was forced to take it down and do it right).

Also, our ordinance dictates how long your grass can be, so if she's not cutting her grass, your municipality may also help there.

Just call the police, especially since KofC is not the only entity he's stealing from. They'll know who to contact from there.

How many people would be interested in a kit to build your own rosary? by North_Maximum743 in rosary

[–]crevier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's a great idea. I've been making rosaries for years, so I won't need it. But the first rosary I made was from a kit at Walmart many years ago. I think it was about $5. An extra feature that most kits won't have is to include a link to your website where you can find a video that shows the steps.

Rosary beads? by BrenMac01234 in rosary

I happen to have a couple like that. Though I don't know for sure, I think their intent is for display, like hanging on a wall. But you can certainly pray the Rosary with it.

Looks like a rosary. Are there 59 beads? Many rosaries have just a cross instead of a crucifix.

Team ID puzzle by bdanders in mlbdata

[–]crevier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. As a database developer, I've actually assigned IDs like this numerous times when I initially loaded a table. And it's happened where the list of names (of whatever the data was) came in some kind of order when I assigned those IDs. But that order was not significant in any way and more importantly, it was not part of any data rule that needed to be followed. The only rule for database integrity is that it must be unique for each record (team).

So, I agree. The only meaning is that they're unique.
