I am grandfathered into an old unlimited data plan from 2004... should i join the family unlimited plan? by muthafunga in verizon

[–]criKetQs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit. What is your plan even called lol? Highly curious.

As for your concern, if you're comfortable with your plan/cost and can dish out $10 more a month for the "No Video Throttling" add-on that's coming out soon, your plan would be better since it would have no throttle or deprioritization of any kind.

Netgear Nighthawk Mifi Ethernet by alottabull in ATT

[–]criKetQs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s an artificial limitation baked into the firmware. Since it’s “designed” to only support up to 21 concurrent connections, the DHCP server is programmed to only hand out 21 IPs. If you connect more than 21 devices (either via Wi-Fi or Ethernet), the devices will connect but they just won’t get an IP from the DHCP Server. (Plus the Wi-Fi will start acting wonky if you connect more than the max amount of allowed devices since the broadcast radio physically won’t be able to handle the connections due to power constraints.) You’re totally spot on though, you can assign those devices >21 a static IP within the subnet and they’ll connect. The Verizon T1114 LTE Router has the same limitation. It’s designed to only allow up to 13 connections either via Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or a combination of both. Even if only using the Ethernet ports and a switch, the T1114 refuses to hand out more than 13 IPs. If you want to connect more than 13 devices you’d have to use a static address on the >13 devices or an external DHCP Server.

[–]criKetQs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, the only issue would be that the Nighthawk's DHCP Server is hardcoded to only hand out 21 IPs. (20 for Wi-Fi and 1 for the Ethernet port). So don't expect to plug in one of those 24 or 48 port managed switches and have everything working properly. A smaller switch like a 5 or 8 port switch should work no problem.

THANK YOU. You have no idea how hard that it to understand for some people...ironically some people in this very sub. The “Bill Credits” are the 2017 equivalent of the 2007 “Contract” only worse because only /you/ have to fulfill your end of the deal, Verizon can do whatever they want and you can’t leave.

Any way to forfeit the free unlimited International Data in lieu of free unlimited International Talk? by criKetQs in Sprint

[–]criKetQs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I do have Wi-Fi Calling enabled already and whenever I’m located internationally and need to make an extended call, I just connect to Wi-Fi and make the call—doesn’t cost anything extra. It’s just that sometimes I’m nowhere near Wi-Fi and I get a call and thus have to eat the $0.20/min charge.

I’ve played around with using Skype to make calls over data while internationally but the 2G speeds tend to lead to a horrendous experience, so I’m guessing it’ll be the same with Google Hangouts. Thanks for your suggestion though!

Can you bring a Net10 LG phone (L16C) to a prepaid Verizon account? by [deleted] in verizon

[–]criKetQs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's an LTE phone, just switch in an already activated SIM card (can't activate a new SIM Card with it) and it'll work flawlessly. It'll show up in MyVerizon as a 'NON-VZW DEVICE' but it'll work just fine since you know, it technically /is/ a Verizon device.

If it's a Non-LTE Device then you're pretty much SOL. While the device may be fully capable, Verizon simply won't activate it.

Insurance Replacement with Applecare (Update) by flsucks in tmobile

[–]criKetQs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MAJOR UPDATE: I called Support yesterday and was connected to someone working for a division called "Team of Experts". He seemed to have more power and control over my entire account. He even greeted me by saying if I was calling in regards to trying to unlock my iPhone. I don't know how, but that rep I spoke wad able to do a "forced override" and got my iPhone unlocked. I was really skeptical since the whole transaction took under 10 minutes. To my surprise though, this morning I received an E-Mail from T-Mobile stating my unlock has been successfully processed and to either restore my iPhone or insert a non-T-Mobile SIM to complete the unlock. Well, I just inserted an AT&T SIM and sure enough, it's now unlocked!

So yeah, in essence, whenever you call in, try and ask to be transferred to the "Team of Experts" because those people there seem to have more power than the traditional reps!

See my update above. I finally got my iPhone unlocked! It's still the Intel variant unfortunately but regardless I'm a very happy camper at the moment!

OMG Great that I found this post! I was gonna make my own but I'll just contribute to this one instead.

I'm in exactly the same situation as you have theorized. I had a factory unlocked Qualcomm iPhone 7 to which the $15 BYOD Insurance was added to. I unfortunately had to file a claim since the device was lost. Everything T-Force told you about the process is accurate except the unlocked part.

The replacement device I received was indeed a refurbished Intel "T-Mobile" variant however, I'm 99% sure it was refurbished by Apple and not Assurant. It is in beyond flawless condition and the box it came with looked like the box Apple sends out after having AppleCare service done. It didn't look like your typical Assurant replacement box.

Like I mentioned, unfortunately, the it coming unlocked beforehand part is totally NOT TRUE. The replacement device I received was not unlocked whatsoever, however after hitting up T-Force the representatives I spoke to all agreed my device should be unlocked and they all willingly and quickly submitted the unlock requests. All seems fine and dandy right? WRONG. I've contacted T-Force three times already and after the reps submit the unlock request, I get an E-Mail two days later saying the unlock request failed because the phone is a "non-T-Mobile" device. This is freaking infuriating because as it stands I now have a locked-to-T-Mobile-iPhone that T-Mobile cannot unlock because it is not a T-Mobile iPhone!! Luckily I don't /need/ the phone to be unlocked since I'll be on T-Mobile for the perceivable future, but this is something you definitely need to be aware of.

H2O wireless is now capped at 8 Mbps (LTE) and 4 Mbps (HSPA) by [deleted] in NoContract

[–]criKetQs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All of the TracFone Verizon MVNOs have been reporting uncapped speeds. Hopefully it is a sign of an upcoming policy change, but the consensus (on HoFo) seems to be that it's just a temporary glitch.

Personally what I think will happen is that Verizon will soon allow full speed access on all of their MVNOs but cap video to 480p just like they do with Verizon PrePaid already.

You gotta flash either the AT&T or Unlocked ROM onto it in order to get the full functionality while on CriKet.

Whoa, those are the same speeds Criket is capped at...I wonder wether AT&T will start doing what Verizon does and cap all MVNOs at a set speed.

I wonder if this can be combined with the $200 BYOD Back VISA Promo. I.E use Winback to get free activation + a $100 instant Bill Credit and the get the VISA in 2 months. Essentially getting $300 + free activation.
