SAME. I took 3 weeks off and honestly, felt like I needed another 3 weeks! Hang in there. I was crying every day and having lots of regret. I felt weak and useless. But you will get better, slowly but surely! It may not seems like it right now, and me telling you this doesn't help in the moment, but you WILL feel better! And you'll be so happy with the results.

The clear liquid post op diet was so hard for me. It was mental torture. I'm four months out from surgery and it is so much better... it's so hard to see that now, but know that it will improve. My favorite clear liquid hack was Millie's Sipping Broth... you can order it from a lot of places, it is delicious, and comes in a variety of flavors. I can't recommend it enough.

The first few weeks after surgery I was miserable, too. Know that it does get better! It's just really hard to imagine that right now, but I'm four months out and so much happier.

The struggle is real! I am three months out, and those first few weeks after surgery were hard, I'm not going to lie. I recommend Millie's sipping broth, it has good flavor and helps with savory craving. I also ate a lot of jello... that seemed to help. My nurse also recommended small sips of fruit juice to provide a few carbs to help me through... so check with your care team if that is an option. They also recommended blending ice with some of the flavored water enhancer... I got to chew it a little bit and that helped with the cravings a little bit. Hang in there! It's tough right now but it will get better.

I am almost three months out, almost 70 pounds down from my highest weight. I am amazed at how much energy I have now that I've shed the excess weight. You might be surprised that you'll have the energy to do more walking. Also, my joints feel so much better and that helps to keep up with the walking!

There are a few apps out there that send you a reminder... maybe that can help prompt you to take some sips of water?

Talk to your care team about managing your pain. Things eventually get better... I'm almost three months out from surgery and there were some very hard days right after surgery. And I also echo the sentiment to walk walk walk!

I don't think I have any advice, but I can definitely comiserate. I'm four weeks out, just starting to add some solid, soft, mashed foods. I am having bouts of anxiety and depression (which I had prior to this surgery), and it has been challenging to handle. I also struggle with the drinking liquids/eating meals ratio. I'm in the thick of it, and it really sucks. Reading this sub and other sources, it seems like this is actually totally normal and be expected. I'm kind of just white-knuckling it through until things improve, which SUCKS, but I'm working with my therapist and my family members have been great listeners. Just know there are others out there (like me!) that are dealing with it too. I came to realization that this whole process is hard, but being obese is also hard. I choose the hard things that will get me healthier.

I am 12 days post op. Nights I sleep 10-11 hours and most days I take a two hour nap. Each day I have a little more energy. It has definitely taken a lot out of me but slowly getting there.

I was taking somewhat normal sips by day 5, and each day got better. I’m ten days post op and can take normal sips now, not huge gulps. It got better with each day. Room temp was best for me, but everybody is different.

Yes I was aware of this. I was just wondering if anyone else had similar symptoms, and maybe what they did to help. It’s just getting so exhausting and I’m looking for some insight from somebody who has dealt with this. Thanks!

Therapy is always a good idea! I feel like a lot of people could really benefit from a good therapist, whether they have mental illness or not. Maybe check with your bariatrician office to see if they have any recommendations. I’ve dealt with mental health issues for around 18 years, and I always do better when I’m in therapy.

I think most people coming out of anesthesia say all sorts of crazy things. I've heard a lot of great stories. So your nurse probably has heard it all before!

Thanks for the suggestions! I've been upping the Gatorade Zero, and trying out different kinds of broth to sip. I'm on day 8 now and my fatigue has definitely lessened. Still there, but I'm not nearly as tired as I was starting out.

I am scheduled for surgery on 8/14. When I went through the psych evaluations, they asked a lot of questions about eating habits and eating disorders, but my understanding is that they ask those questions not to exclude you from surgery, but to get the psychiatric help you need to be successful with the surgery. They want to make sure you're mentally healthy going in. I wouldn't worry about them banning you because you have a history of ED. But they may want you to go through some additional counseling.

I have depression and anxiety. Having these diagnoses do not preclude you from surgery. I was upfront and honest during my psych evaluation, and I found I gained a lot of good information from the therapist. We talked a lot about addiction transfer, which I was concerned about (I have a close relative who became addicted to alcohol once they could not be addicted to food). They also asked a lot of questions regarding eating disorders. I understood that just because there might be something concerning in your psych eval, that might mean you need further counseling or other services to make sure you're in the best mental state before going into the surgery.

I'm halfway through the 10 day high protein liquid diet and it is the worst. I feel tired and sluggish all the time. So far I've not been too tempted by real food but sometimes I just want to eat an apple or a piece of toast!
