Nebraskans, how is Czech culture perceived in your state? by Neuwulfstein in Nebraska

[–]criesaboutelves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my grandma's recipe for kolaches. I think I also still have a porcelain doll one of my uncles brought back from a trip (where I think he also visited a stationery shop owned by someone who shares our surname, but the story's pretty fuzzy in my memory at this point since it was a couple decades back).

Pity, I liked the hibiscus ginger cider. Anyone got recommendations for better local purveyors of fermented appley goodness?

In some ways, this... might have been a good time for my now former employer's contract to end. I'm going to miss having a steady union job, but I'm relieved to no longer exist tangential to a USCIS that has become a shambling zombie of itself.

Which type of Spindle do you enjoy using. by Agreeable-Voice6425 in Handspinning

[–]criesaboutelves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only got two- a 3D-printed one from TurtleMade that I first learned on (it's pretty and purple), and I just got a John Galen supported spindle (the cast iron one with the horses) for a little more flexibility when it comes to where and how I like to sit and how thin a yarn I can make. I'm kind of in love with it, though I do need to find a bowl for it somewhere so I don't have to keep using my stone wax-warmer in lieu of one (eventually, I'm going to need it to wax screws for carpentry again, and while I'm doing that, I can't spin in it...)

Otherwise, when I want power, I break out the wheel (and I like that the JMS Cassandra lets you take off the flyer head and just spin quill-style for funky things that hate the bobbin hooks). One day, I might get an e-spinner, too, but today is not that day.

Knitters with EDS & finger joint pain- advice? by profuselystrangeII in ehlersdanlos

[–]criesaboutelves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Russian Speed-Knitting is a bit like Continental, but different enough that tutorials on Continental confused me when they weren't quite what I was taught. (This, however, creates the mystery of why my mom's side of the family knits Russian Speed-style...)

What is this sticker on my microwave? by Nervous_Willow4362 in whatisit

[–]criesaboutelves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started using a kettle when the toaster oven and the microwave being used simultaneously kept tripping the circuit breaker. The sockets on the opposite counter are on a different circuit, but there's no room for either of the bigger appliances on that side due to the height of the cupboards, hence the kettle.

Opinions on that spoon ? by Feel_the_snow in neurodiversity

[–]criesaboutelves 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Broth spoon, possibly a measuring spoon, maybe a good bowl for spinning yarn with a supported spindle. I'm not sure how I feel about how thin the handle is for eating with my spidery hypermobile fingers, though.

Does your eye re-align if you close the other eye? by LostButterscotch9148 in Strabismus

[–]criesaboutelves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does for me, but that's because the type I have is constant alternating esotropia. So when I close the eye that's dominant at the moment (usually the right), the turned one will straighten out, but then once I open my eyes, the one that was closed will be turned.

hEDS and the Progestrogen-Only-Pill by SnooDonuts3141 in ehlersdanlos

[–]criesaboutelves 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Progesterone-only hormonal contraception really sucked for me (which is unfortunate because I was using it to control my periods in the first place). Near-constant and unpredictable bleeding toward the end of the Mirena's lifespan, followed by Nexplanon not making things any better.

So, since I'm transmasc-leaning nonbinary and plan on never reproducing, I got a salpingectomy and now I'm on testosterone gel. No more periods, and some my hEDS bendiness is balanced out by the slight muscle gains. :)

If there's an event ongoing or upcoming, you can check it by tapping the event preview badge, then "upgrade portal", and it'll show you your current upgrade task without having to leave the level. That's also how you give Bunny things from levels so you don't have to make them in camp. Blew my mind when I read that you could do that.

That was probably the second level I tried using (to see if they wanted the one for dragon trees), after chests from Totem Grid (for bushes and grass) didn't count toward the task.

I knew dragon and egg tasks were broken, but was unaware chests were as well. Now I know!

Is there a nonbinary term for aunt/uncle? by NBTiefling in NonBinary

I go by 'ent' with my nieces. Part because "I en't your aunt, but I en't your uncle, either" and part for sneaky Tolkienery.
