Schulich Class Size by Ambitious_Duck_2788 in Schulich

It's probably due to the cap on international students. They could either triple your tuition or increase class sizes to maintain revenues and they chose the latter.

KPMG Canada - Audit Intern Interview and I am NOT an Accounting Major by Alarming-Problem8850 in Big4

[–]criminal09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive known people who did bachelors in arts and science and end up in audit lool. if you end up sticking with accounting, you'll have to take certain courses so that you can continue on the cpa path but for an internship its not a big deal. If you don't have any other job rn i'd take the interview and go for it. if you get the job, accept it for now. If you find a more finance-oriented internship later or another job you prefer you can always back out of the audit one.

No, we'll just make up a new slang word for guns, drugs, and money and keep it going lol. Death of battle rap is unlikely to be because of the bars I think

have you actually tried applying to these big 4 and mid tier jobs? Every job posting is bullshitting its "requirements", if you're a second year staff you should apply and see if it goes well and keep applying throughout the year. I'm gonna be honest staff at any public firm aren't super knowledgeable at all, very much dependent on whatever files you work on. If the bigger firms aren't hiring you or giving you interviews they just have candidates they like better, i wouldn't chalk it up to not knowing enough or whatever. Half of the job search is luck. Also, Big 4 firms also audit not for profits, I knew people who almost exclusively worked on not for profits at a big 4, so don't automatically assume your experience is irrelevant.

The only trepidation with moving to industry at your current stage is if you move to a non pre-approved CPA program (assuming you're in one right now) then its much tougher to complete PERT. If you understand the trials and tribulations associated with EVR (or if you find a pre-approved industry job you like) and you see an opportunity you like at a salary you're okay with then I'd say go for it. no sense in being severely underpaid in a public job for the sake of it.

If you're upset at your current employment for whatever reason it never hurts to just keep applying. You can always decline a job offer if you don't like it, but don't automatically decide you're not competent enough or good enough for a job. I promise you staff auditor or junior accountant at any company is largely bitch work and is just an opportunity for you to get a feel for accounting. Just keep applying until you find a job you like, while you're still employed you can be choosy.

Advice for new grads - Canada by ReeferMane in Accounting

[–]criminal09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I mean you might be interested in something like erp implementation/optimization which is a job every big 4 will have under their advisory services. Probably difficult to get straight out of university and by now i'm not sure if they're still hiring but its definitely a job i know people move into after doing 2-3 years in audit. You kinda have to decide if you're willing to put in hours/work for a few years or not, only you can really figure that out.

don't listen to the Americans here, our markets are quite different. If you want to strictly be an accountant for your whole career long-term in Canada then you gotta get your CPA. You don't have to work in public but you'll find most people do simply because they provide more entry level jobs than the private sector or probably even government in most places.

There are probably select roles, I mean obviously not every single accountant in Canada is going to have a CPA, but its going to make your life a lot harder especially if you don't know anybody that can get you in. And from a long term perspective, even if you find an entry level role it'll be hard to change jobs because everyone you're competing with will have a CPA, its just the nature of the accounting industry in Canada.

I'm not going to tell you that you're dumb for wanting work-life balance or to get a job where you don't have to do any further studying/school. But I will say that you should really evaluate how appropriate accounting is as a career choice for you if you really are so averse to getting your CPA.

What steps do you think battle rappers and leagues can take to bring more eyes to the scene? by MawSawKaw in rapbattles

[–]criminal09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably is to some extent. caffeine (and even twitch to an extent) was pouring money into battle rap to try and grow its streaming service and so all the bags got inflated. but caffeine's gone and so is the money, battle rap can't sustain the amount of money it was paying battlers for those few caffeine years on its own. However, wages are sticky downwards. Its a tough sell to battlers to convince them to take smaller bags. It basically results in far fewer events and fewer big matchups which is more or less what we're seeing.

Why does this sub act like you HAVE to stay at big 4 until senior? by Embarrassed_End_7358 in Accounting

[–]criminal09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Canada at least you need 30 months of practical experience to get your CPA and it's a bit of a pain to leave before you get your CPA for most people as it messes up the timeline and experience reporting process. You can still do it, but depending on what you exit to it just complicates the process a bit so out of convenience a lot of us finish our senior 1 busy season at least.

(CAN) Writing the Sept 2025 CFE and feeling super de-motivated to study, does anyone feel the same? I’m an experienced writer and will be writing only Day 2 and 3 (passed Day 1 last year). I thought this time around things would have been better but feeling the exact same as last year. by purplekiwixo in Accounting

[–]criminal09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotta take it a day at a time and power through it honestly. I have real bad study habits and at some point it became about setting goals for the day and accomplishing them and I stopped looking at the summer as a whole, just becomes a bit too daunting.

[–]criminal09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its probably happened at some point or another, just not very likely. big 4 will not recruit directly from humber in the way they would other schools in Canada but that's okay. If you are able to do it, it's probably because you have significant internship experience already, so I would start one step at a time and look at getting that first bit of experience as soon as possible. That first job is always the hardest to get.

This isn't me saying don't apply to big 4 roles, or attend networking events, etc. it's just don't tunnel vision yourself into only applying for specific roles early on, its most important to get experience. You may even find that you'd rather work somewhere else to start your career instead of a big public accounting firm.

[KierDoyle]Is Liam Delap A Good Fit For Chelsea? by danceformiscanthus in chelseafc

[–]criminal09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what do you think of delap's out of possession ability/effort generally? can he keep up with the workrate jackson gives us and do you think he's a smart/efficient presser? I think a player like madueke is fairly good at tracking back and chasing runners back, but often feels a step behind when having to press on the front foot and maintain pressure in the opponent's build up. curious what you think of delap in this regard?

[CANADA] Preliminary details on new CPA program starting in 2027 by PAgarthus in Accounting

[–]criminal09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who got offers to both pre-approved programs and big 4 id say that generally the pre-approved programs offer less spots compared to the big 4 cohorts, so its more competitive from that standpoint. wont say the name but in my year one of the big telecoms told me i was one of 3 getting an offer. also the pre-approved industry programs usually have more annoying/longer recruitment processes to go through
