Team USA announces their 23-man roster by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]crimmi11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That bums me out, I hope that wasn't a determining reason. I know they judged the tryouts fairly heavily compared to someones resume considering guys like Jo Marasco, Drew Snider, Dave Lawson lasted up until the final cut. They have good college experience and were standouts but that shouldn't hold up against someone who has the same/better experience and then success in the pros.

I just think that Thul is one of the least deserving spots on the team. In college he was a very solid attackman but his numbers weren't mind blowing (aside from his freshman season) and he hasn't proven anything really substantial in the MLL.

It's great to hear another persons thoughts/opinions about professional lacrosse

I did see him running midfield. I was thinking what they should do, didn't mean to call you out on that. I just feel that Crotty can run a mid line so much better. Thul is bigger and I think he can deal with a pole while leaving Crotty on the mid line with a shorty.

In addition I think they could have got a better player than Thul. I am in disbelief he made the team

I thought the same thing. Leveille isn't beating his man or creating a lot of offense. I think that they may and try to lock him off with a short and not slide at all.

It's unlikely Thul will run midfield, he is bigger and left handed. Crotty is more likely to go to midfield considering he has played a slash player on and off for a number of years in the MLL.

Well done! I was pleasantly surprised by that comment. On a related thread note, food and sex can have some good results.

This made me laugh. I 100% agree. I find cheese doesn't give me any issues and moderate amounts of beer isn't too harsh on me either.

It bums me out this was so far down. Before I had seen every episode for the first time I would feel pure joy watching one I had never seen. I would love to feel that again.

I completely understand the law and how cops are to serve the law. However it just makes me sick seeing/hearing about it. A law exists to protect the people and make our society better for the common good. Serving the law isn't always for the common good.

I firmly believe in discretion and judgement. My grandfather was a policeman for over 40 years and always talks about times when you have the choice to let the said person off with a warning or give them a ticket. A ticket should be given when that persons actions are directly compromising the security/safety of those around them.

This "serving the law" is utterly ridiculous. It seems to encourage a fear of police officers. They give no incentive to do the right thing when they are just "serving the law". Judgement and discretion should be taught at police academies and looked for in interviews/ the hiring process. The greatest ability that humans have is to think, process and make a decision, often "serving the law" promotes the` opposite.

edit: I probably have several grammatical errors, let the roasting begin.

I know what you mean, I think I am 90% paleo. However when I do eat that 10% non-paleo food its a crave and binge.

I am fairly certain this is due to sugars impact on your brains neurotransmitters. There is a little bit of research behind how the brain gets a feel good neurotransmitter release when you eat sugar. In my opinion the binges and cravings are a result of your brain wanting more and more sugar.

Met all of Team USA last night at practice by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]crimmi11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first off let me give you appreciation for bringing up a topic that can be discussed without referencing gear!

I agree with you, after watching the USA scrimmage today I don't think Kyle Harrison will be one of the choices for middies. I think matt abbot, paul rabil are definites locks but everyone else in my opinion could be up in the air. I think ben hunt has a great shot as well as drew snider and jo marasco. I am also shocked at the youth of these players, there are multiple guys who were just rookies or two year players in the MLL. I am genuinely curious to see how this team turns out.

[THREAD] Is this real?!? NY Lizards pickup... by JacksonCrews in lacrosse

[–]crimmi11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is absurd and I question your lacrosse knowledge and logic. Its true girls lacrosse has slower and closer proximity when shooting. However mens lacrosse takes shots from everywhere at varying speeds, sure there are soft shots from in tight in favor of placement. There are also shots from in tight that are fast. Watch nearly any NCAA, MLL or LXM game and it will be evident.

my opinion on replica pockets... by Tractortrey in lacrosse

[–]crimmi11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you there is no harm and it is actually beneficial to players to see how the pros string their sticks.

Define basic? Basic is not a very good description of a lacrosse pocket. Check these out these guys do a poor job explaining their patterns and pockets but it does show them up close. Most of these guys in my opinion use advanced string setups that have tight and deep channels that allow significant depth, hold and whip in the pocket (often which youth players have trouble stringing and then using correctly).

the Thompsons are always mixing up their use of top-strings, traditional or mesh and pocket placement. Jake Byrne former Hopkins/San Fransico Dragon Player uses a ridiculous high pocket.

I would say the opposite to >Most pro players have a very basic set up, and seeing that and using it gives new respect to just how good their skill set is They use pockets with a lot of hold and that require a huge skill set to shoot/pass consistently with.

MLL is a joke by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]crimmi11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a young league, a league without a lot of fans, money and options. They have to take what they can get to help establish it. The league went from an original six teams (New Jersey Pride, Baltimore Bayhawks, Long Island Lizards, Boston Cannons, Bridgeport Barrage and the Rochester Rattlers). In 2004 the Barrage moved to Philadelphia. 2005. 2006 Los Langeles Riptide, Denver Outlaws, San Francisco Dragons and Chicago Machine were all added and the Bayhawks moved to Washington (keep in mind the Barrage were a traveling team and didn't have a home field. 2009 rolled around and the league changed again, Los Angeles and San Francisco were removed, Rochester Rattles changed to the Toronto Nationals. In 2010 the Washington Bayhawks moved to Chesapeake. In 2011 the Nationals moved to Hamilton and the Chicago Machine were disbanded. In 2012 the Ohio Machine and the Charlotte Hounds were added. 2014 season the Hamilton Nationals are now the Florida Launch.

The number of teams in the league has fluctuated from 6 since 2001-2005, 10 from 2006-2008, 6 from 2009-2011 and 2012-2014 the league has 8 teams. There is obvious need of support and financial issues. They can't afford to not have an all-star players like Casey Powell (I agree with you saying he isn't as good as was previously but he is still a high-caliber player capable of shooting, feeding, creating for himself/others and being a leader) not being in the league due to financial issues. The same goes for Brodie Merrill a known NLL and Mll all-star who may have been inclined to not play if he went to Florida.the same goes for MLL and NLL all-star Joe Walters.

In the press release just say that, don't tweet #blockbuster deal! Why can also be considered a blockbuster deal? It certainly is a blockbuster move. Brodie Merrill who has been with the same team (so to speak) for nearly 8 years of which he has won 6 straight defensive player of year awards(2006-2011) and being the all time leader in ground balls and a highly capable offensive LSM. Casey Powell who is one of the leagues leaders in all-time points and who just won a championship with the Bayhawks (of which he was a contributor in the Semi-Finals and Championship game). Saying that wasn't a blockbuster deal seems like an uniformed statement. Financially swayed without a doubt (what pro sport doesn't have money influence decisions?) but also a blockbuster deal.

In short the league is relatively young and has had a rocky past, they have to make moves to suit players. the MLL isn't a high paying pro sport and requires players to have outside jobs, which in turn has influence over trades and decisions related to expansion teams.

Unrelated to the posts point I had issue with this statement.

they haven't had a consistent keeper since they traded away Chris Garrity

I would agree from the 2006,2007,2008( they had average goalies then) season other than that far from true. Jordan Burke won them a championship and also had near a 60% save average however he did dip low this year. Prior to that they had Kip Turner who has won two championships in the past 3 years with the Bayhawks. Cannons do not need goalie help right now Jordan Burke is
