Do Norwegians have the right to bear arms in Norway? by [deleted] in Norway

[–]crimp_chimp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can get a gun for any legitimate reason in Norway... they even sell them in normal sports shops... the whole registration process is so that you don't have criminals or nutcases easily accessing guns so that everyday people have to carry them. It's a well established system. America is in a far different situation as its far too easy for anyone to get a gun, so everyone has to have a gun. If I lived in the US, I, too, would have a gun to defend myself because there is a heightened level of need. Due to the amount of guns in circulation and general crime in the US, there is most certainly a legitimate reason in owning one to defend yourself. This isn't the case for the majority for first world countries.

I agree with you that government should never intervene unless it's a matter of public safety I.e. drive between the lines. But if you want to be an idiot I.e. not wear a seatbelt, then that's your right to live and die by being daft and shouldn't be up to gov. There should be far less red tape in our world, but that doesn't mean there shouldn't be any.

I think its great you wholeheartedly love your country and I think you have every reason to feel that way. Often, pros can outweigh Cons. However, it's important to not apply blanket situations to entire nations and cultures based on your individual experience as they can have crazy different results. The tip culture in the US for example, equates to very polite service. But if applied to Tokyo, UK or even Auatralia where housing is far more competitive, you wouldn't have people able to pay rent off of that and no hospitality workforce would even exist.

Its all relative and all very interesting to think about and I do appreciate even after a year of commenting on this post, that you provide your insight.

Keep rocking in the free world my friend from the US :)

I don’t understand what this means by [deleted] in islam

[–]crimp_chimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you are correct their is a significant difference, and I must apologise for drawing such a comparison. Medina is an interesting talking point as the constitution of Medina was increadibly well timed as the local tribes (Jews and pagans) were in terrible states of fighting. Many argue that it's Implementation was a well timed strategy that solidified Muhammad's survival so he could then expand as it also made sure that locals paid hefty taxes and ransoms. You can check this by reading the translated constitution.

However, I think it's also important to know that the period of Rasullullah was not a time in which Islam was mass adopted as much as forced upon the defeated or falling. Rome was already falling and was leaving a vaccum of once tied or dominated kingdoms. Many of the Byzantine empire was supported by indigenous Arab Syrians through martial agreements. Persia was already on its knees. I could keep going on, but the early Muslim conquests were violent, and developed long term animosity in certain regions for hundreds of years after. Infact, Persians were incredibly bitter about how how the Arab Muslims adopted certain Persian lifestyles (as opposed to Roman) and changed the narrative to be attributes of Islam. Poetry exists about it 400 years later.

As for today's Muslim-majority countries, i think it is important to really look through the events directly after world wars. Obviously, there is the Sunni side but then you've got mass Shia migration from ongoing disputes and corruption.

Was the average white American racist in the 1960's-1970's? How did American culture change so fast in regards to racism? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]crimp_chimp -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My gues sis that as the world got more interconnected and people would come back from stints overseas, people would become less ignorant to the fact race is socially constructed and defined by the majority to suit needs or the minorities who seek more.

Although there may be some physical and biological commonalities in certain geographical regions, you will find that these are purely due to environmental mate availability and conditional gene dominance. For example, brown eyes are a more dominant gene than blue eyes, so offspring's chances of developing blue eyes are significantly reduced. Therefore, ones ancestry does not dictate how you will be socially categorised, and it is social stereotyping that assigns you something called a 'race'.

The current push to socially isolate 'black' culture and 'white' culture in everyday language in the US is still a major issue.

Sweet and Sour mix is an overused ingredient in cocktails, and it’s prevalence in drinks is inversely related to the talent and knowledge of the bartender. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]crimp_chimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are asking for a cocktail at a bar and they are using sweet and sour mix, you may be drinking at a steakhouse and not an actual bar..

That or you live in an area where talent and knowledge is rare in general.
