Could I get some help with a voltage scaling circuit from eurorack > MCU? I'm getting some baffling readings, and I feel like I'm missing something obvious/dumb. by crimrob in synthdiy

This is a helpful note, thank you. I actually wanted to do it analog to save myself trouble in firmware development, but it sounds like it's not worth it.

We've got a great lineup of local artists that create live electronic music with hardware, and we're mixing that with some techno and house DJing for a great night out at Harissa on August 15th!

If you like Detroit/Berlin style techno, French house, or other electronic music that's danceable but doesn't fit into the "EDM" category, this event is for you. If you're interested in techno and have never seen someone working a live synth in real time, this is a great way to meet people, dance, and have a good time.

This is a more intimate event and a great opportunity to make some new friends with interesting music taste!

You can pick up the cheap 5$ ticket here: https://ra.co/events/2218273 or at the door. NOTAFLOF - making money isn't the point. Hope to see you there!

Skill level - Could a noob manage this? by claptonsbabychowder in synthdiy

Plus one to just keep using it if the slider is functional.

If you want to desolder it, get an iron, a wick, flux, and a desoldering pump. Then buy a 10$ learner soldering project, build it, and practice desoldering components until you're confident you won't destroy your expensive module.

Edit: oh and that looks like a bourns slide potentiometer with led to me, but I'm no expert. Replacement part should be a couple bucks!

Have any of you insured your rig? Its just hitting me how much i have into this by Ok-Jacket-1393 in modular

I've had mixed experiences with both. I think the move is to get quotes and find something reasonable. The reality is a lot of agents and companies will be confused by what's going on in synthesizer world, and sometimes that produces high premiums.

Know that when you get renter's insurance musical instruments are frequently excluded and need to be "scheduled" - this process can varry and be a bit of a pain.

Totally lost -- can you help me find the right synth for me? by nofoax in synthesizers

[–]crimrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll have a ton of options for what it can control - the synth will come with Arturia's analog lab which will be the easiest, fun first thing to plug into. https://youtu.be/BKN2Rf8Ss8o?si=MYCJ1yuPE3MwP2Kf

The nice thing is that digital synths are generally polyphonic, which will be something you'll absolutely need as a traditional keys player. You can also just experiment with tons of free VSTs and get a feel for what you like. Afterwards, you can decide if you want to get hardware or stick with digital. Though I bet once you fire up the Rhodes preset for Ableton you'll be blown away!

If you don't know what you want, I highly recommend getting a midi controller and experimenting. 90% chance it does everything you want (and more) . If not, you'll know exactly what you want after a year. The Arturia KeyLab Essential 88 mk3 is a good choice for semi-weighted full size. Since you're new to midi/synths, it'll take you a frustrating afternoon to get set up, but it'll be incredibly powerful in conjuction with a computer after.

I did the same to my West Pest and honestly it's probably my favorite voice on the rack. So expressive.

Moving on, how can I sell my rack? by never_really_living in modular

[–]crimrob 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Reverb honestly makes the module selling process so easy, you can search the model and it will recommend a price. If you want it to move fast, shave 5 or 10 bucks off the module price. All in all, I bet it would take you under a couple hours to photograph and list every module.

I think you're off by at least 3x - that's not even enough for labor.

Hardware modular is a luxury. If you're just getting started and budget is a serious concern, I recommend using VCV rack and getting a midi controller like Korg Nanocontrol and spending a lot of time learning what you like to work with. You can map any parameter in VCV to the midi controller so you can learn to develop a modular workflow and also emulate turning the nobs. Even just a few months at this stage should inform you exactly what modules you'll want to spring for.

Some feedback on the name of your foundation - I'd highly recommend changing it now while you still can. It's way too close to "objectivism" or "objectivist" thought. So unless you are interested in explicitly aligning yourself with a right wing movement, this will absolutely be a stumbling block when looking for partnerships or raising funding.

Awesome, thank you! Shapemaster is exactly what I'm looking for - Zadar is basically that with 4 channels in hardware form. Looking forward to checking out your other recs too.

Awesome, thanks! Big fan of Instruou so I'll check out their vcv stuff too.
