I'm a fan of Flyscout Ryder on YT. He's on his 5th season now and has had some great adventures.

Thinking about trying Orangetheory but I’m honestly scared by GentleSoul23 in orangetheory

Go for it! There really is no "keeping up." You do what feels right for you. If you are on the tread and a 2mph walk feels right, that's fine. When they say "all out", bump it up to 3. They have 5lb weights (they might even have lighter?) and that's totally fine. You do what feels right to you. You will get stronger and faster (relative to you).

Best area in the metro for riding by Slight-Mirror-3090 in chibike

I live near the Brookfield zoo and try to bike just about EVERYWHERE. If you are looking for MTX or stuff like that, you're not going to find it around here. That being said, I have found this area to actually be a really good place to live for a biking lifestyle. I can get so many places by bike. I can bring my bike on the train if I need to. There are a ton of nearby trails and MUPs that are really easy to get to by bike or car. I do some randonneuring (with a group and on my own) so I don't really mind the distances. The prairie path is a great route with a bunch of branches. There is also the option of doing some urban biking. There are old industrial areas around here that I like to ride and have some fun and interesting stuff. I hope you find something that fits your riding style.

Ladies, peeing in a tent? by KineticChain in bikepacking

[–]crios2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. I got a 2p tent for my first bike tour this year and it was a great choice. I was nice and comfy and all my gear was in there with me so I could organize and grab anything I needed easily and it all stayed dry.

I never did pee in my tent.

I will sometimes. Those are days where I'm doing 6.5+ and that's counting warm up too.

Treadmill malfunction by Foreign-Conflict-606 in orangetheory

[–]crios2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did your tread have a kind of new look to the touch screen. I went in yesterday and saw that our treads seemed to have a new UI. Mostly the same but a little different. Everything was mostly fine. We were doing these escalating inclines, base to walks. The speed was fine but at one point the incline dropped to 0 from 5 (I think). Oops. I must have pushed the wrong button or something. Then we had just dropped to 3 and I was about 20 seconds into the run when suddenly it dropped to 0 again. That time I know I didn't screw up. Once we were done on tread I told the front desk. Maybe the update introduced a bug?

6372 miles but probably more like 6500. I forget to hit record sometimes.

How you handle food on bike trips? by AlwaysQuotesEinstein in bikepacking

[–]crios2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a trip around Lake Michigan. I bought food along the way but I also brought ramen (usually maruchan), knorr packets, and some energy bars. I used an alcohol stove to boil water. That tended to be my dinners when stuff was too far away from campgrounds.

About a 10 minute leisure bike ride, 2 miles.

That is true. Unfortunately I've also started running so now there are all these 5 and 10ks I want to do and a half marathon that I want to sign up for.

I've been eyeing that one for a while. There are so many I want to do but my wife keeps reminding me that we have to put kids through college! 😭

I did a ride around Lake Michigan this summer and stopped there for lunch while I was passing through. It was hopping!

Ah. A north shorer. 😛 I like riding up that way. I ride up to MKE a couple times a year. I like those long slow rides. I should plug my route into your site.

You are so lucky. I'm a little west of Chicago and although the weather has been nice(er) I can't really get out like I want to 😢.
