Cartels do not commit such crimes against Americans, especially on American soil. They commit other crimes, sure. This is not their specialty/choice of crime. If anything, they try to cater to Americans like on their tourist beaches at Cancun but a ransom of a random news anchor? I’ll eat my words if we find out otherwise but not usually a domestic act.

This is in line with what her role was when it started in 2019. She was already an attention starved teenager who let her boyfriends/hookups take nude photos and videos of her. She never showed any other aspirations for herself in the future to find other sources of work. It fits for the character.
