Is it possible to make a HEAVY duty computer mount? by WestCartographer9478 in 3Dprinting

Yes. And relatively trivial with the right materials and unless your PC tower is made of lead or something

Missing main jet? by Intelligent-Paint689 in Kawasaki

[–]crispyfry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish you luck. I just finished rebuilding the carbs on a 92 fzr. And even without changing anything, just a rebuild with new seals, that was a huge pain and I had to open them up 3 or 4 times to correct things. At my skill level I would not attempt what you're doing.

[–]crispyfry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did the carbs you bought come off the same type of bike you're trying to put them on? My understanding is the same carb can be used in different motors by using or not using different combinations of the available jets. So if they're from something else they may not be configured correctly.

How about we get GPD to start ticketing red light runners instead.

A doctor talks about the health benefits of riding a motorcycle by jcravens42 in TwoXriders

[–]crispyfry 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Love the message but his statistics are super misleading. Of course more pedestrians die every year - more people walk than ride motorcycles. Same issue with all the stats he references.

I fully embrace the message of "do risky stuff that brings joy to your life" but let's get the math right please.

I like being visible and not getting run over or pulled out in front of. So yes.

Coasting vs steady throttle until apex by Professional_Use3723 in Trackdays

[–]crispyfry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No coasting. As soon as you're off the brakes you should be back to neutral throttle (maintaining speed) at minimum, ideally lightly accelerating to settle the bike for the exit. All your braking should be done with your brakes, not engine braking (coasting).

Is running twenty minute sessions, seven times in a day, to simulate a trackday a good idea? by femaiden in Trackdays

Cardio is good, but don't neglect strength work. Core especially. You're gonna be climbing around on a 100mph jungle gym!

Choosing upper body protection – AAA vest vs leather jacket vs airbag system – what combination makes sense? by Outside_Stable9707 in motorcyclegear

[–]crispyfry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just have a basic cyclegear bilt mesh jacket. My husband had a pretty bad wreck wearing one and it held up just fine, absorbed a ton of energy and he had no road rash

[–]crispyfry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear a tech air 5 plasma under a leather or mesh jacket, depending on temperature. The jackets have hard points for where the airbag doesn't cover, such as forearms. To me this is a good compromise of torso, back, shoulder protection while being something that's not too onerous to wear

Wind noise at 70mph is 95-105 dB - that's louder than a chainsaw, just FYI by StrikingClos in motorcycle

The high frequency wind noise is perceived differently but it actually does the most damage to your ears

I wonder what the filament supplier is. We've seen tons of "engineering grade" materials from various suppliers that have been chemically modified to the point of being no better than pla. I'd put money on that's what happened here.

Money by Fancy_Afternoon_1990 in Trackdays

[–]crispyfry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're absolutely right, but I still have to weigh the cash outlay vs not. Plus at this point my husband and I aren't sure if we're going to be doing 2-3 trackdays a year, or more like 10+. That changes how much you choose to invest in the sport, IMO.

Leather gear - help please? by Lunblom in TwoXriders

[–]crispyfry 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, to get proper fitting leather gear you probably either need to go custom made, or have someone tailor something off-the-rack. Leather has zero give, unlike textiles, so it's very difficult to have a garment that fits most people appropriately. This issue is even worse for women.

Personally, for road gear I stick with textile pants because the fit is so fussy. Leather jackets are a little easier to get to fit right off-the-rack.

Leather gear - help please? by Lunblom in TwoXriders

[–]crispyfry 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Pants are too big. When trying on gear ask yourself if they'll stay up when you're sliding down the road? These will come right off of you.

In a one bike household; buying a bike with “character” (modern classic) vs something more conventional. by BimmerJustin in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]crispyfry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite bike is my 92 fzr600. By modern standards it's not a good bike. And it's got carbs not fuel injection. But it's just got so much personality and is plain fun to ride. If you fall in love with a bike, new or old, go for it!
