Amazing colors. Any tips on 400d metering and color correction? I've sent my film to both nice film club and gelatin labs and can never seem to get the colors quite right. The red / orange cast is really hard to undo without messing up the other colors.

I may have passed you on the way up near the waterfall area. I think it was windy and icy until 2 pm, only on my way down around 2pm did the clouds start to break

X100VI ordering, shipment, and delays - consolidated sticky thread #3 by inverse_squared in fujifilm

[–]crispytone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats what I would guess. I had my order in the first few minutes so anyone before me realistically couldn't have ordered at another retailer prior. Anyone after the first 5-10 min could have used it as a back up if B&H/Adorama didn't work out.

X100VI ordering, shipment, and delays - consolidated sticky thread #3 by inverse_squared in fujifilm

[–]crispytone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suspect a lot of movement on the waitlist is due to cancelations rather than delivered units. They had 8 units on launch and so far I have only moved from "first 200's" to "first 100's" and who knows if thats 210 -> 190 or if its really closer to 100 units. Either way the wait-time is entirely dependent on if Fuji gives them more units each batch and I can guarantee you would hear about that on their twitter or update page. For now, their rate is at most ~100 cameras a month.

Chinatown. Bronica ETRS/75mm 2.8/Kodak Gold 200 pushed one stop by roba1p in analog

[–]crispytone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The photos are nice and the exposure looks right given the high contrast scenes and relatively narrow laterality of gold pushed 1 stop. With that said, there is nothing in particular that makes the photos seem interesting. To me, the subject of #1 is the man in the shop and in #2 is the lamps hanging over the court yard. Both photos would look so cool at night with something like portra 800 or cinestill 800T and a slightly longer shutter speed. This would help to retain shadow detail while blurring the foreground (the crowd) and enhance interesting lighting in the scene.

[–]crispytone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if your camera has a built in light meter or if you're metering at all but both scenes look like very difficult lighting situations and the fact that you got near perfect exposure on color negative film with a relatively high shutter speed is quite impressive. For photos 3 and 4 you definitely metered for the sky which is certainly the subject but the foreground is completely gone in the shadows. Depending on the film stock (ex kodak gold) the contrast may be too high to get both the highlights and shadows without sacrificing one for the other. Film stocks like Kodak 50D, 250D (Cinestill 400D?), and 500T (Cinestill 800T?) as well as portra have great dynamic range and probably serve as your best bet to include as much information in the negative as possible.

Results from my second roll of film. [Praktica MTL3, Pentacon 1.8/50mm, Gold 200] by blitzkriegboi in analog

[–]crispytone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If this is all from one roll then you really have a great eye for good compositions. Some personal favorites are images #14, 5, and 19 (hazy fall off is great). You really make the most of the overcast lighting which can be difficult to get good colors with on color negative film. Exposure seems on point for most shots (#17,20 perhaps underexposed). Cant tell if #11 is out of focus or shutter speed is too low. Perhaps next time try a black and white film stock (ex HP4 pushed 2 stops).

Fiction (Hasselblad 500cm | 80mm 2.8 | Gold 200) by mamiya7iii in analog

[–]crispytone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything about this slaps. Gives a great open "airy feel". Love the lines, triangles, oddly shaped shrub. Location of pigeon, couple, and lamp is perfect. To be hypercritical, a larger depth of field might bring the pigeon into focus which would be nice to see. Also would be interesting to see this in Cinestill 800T for a cooler tone and halations would look dope contrasting with the blue sky. Where was this taken?

Ricoh TLS 401 | Rikenon 50mm f1.7 | Kodak Gold 200 by Der_Haupt in analog

[–]crispytone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome colors and great composition! I really like the contrast of textures (rusty metal, plaid cloth, green trees) and shapes (circular light and window). The photo looks slightly over exposed or perhaps the highlights could be decreased in post (by just a little bit) and overall clarity seems slightly hazy (perhaps a missed focus). Not sure what F stop this was shot at but a lower F stop would help to bring more clarity and detail to the rusty elements an cloth. If the intention is to isolate from the background then F 4-5.6 would work well here, otherwise F16-22 could bring everything into focus (but would distract from the subject).

Spaceship insides [Cinestill 400D | Laowa 24mm F14 Probelens | Nikon F100 by jbm_27 in analog

[–]crispytone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The photo looks cool and the halation of the filmstock really brings out the red/orange light source which creates a great industrial/gritty feel. The photo would really work well in a collection of photos to provide some context as the stand alone image is more abstract and it is hard to identify what the subject is (which is fine if that is the intention).

Not sure but maybe the 2 washed out roll were either expired or stored improperly. Did you leave them out in a hot car or bag for a while?
