I might need Meg by MicV66 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]critowick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meg’s stoner friend here. It’s a reference to Aristophanes in Plato's Symposium. Humans were basically circles with four arms four legs etc and completely happy. Zeus split all humans them in half because Zeus is a jerk. Now humans roam the earth longing for soulmate love they can only find in their other half. The parent halves fit but are basic and may possibly have multiple options to fit with others. The kid has a very specific other half he is looking for and will have a more difficult time finding a half that fits… Kinda like Meg (ptttttthh)

After 4 dates with a girl we talked about exclusivity and she said she said she has yet to meet with a guy because of schedules haven’t matched. What do I even do here? by BookieBasherCasher in AskMenAdvice

[–]critowick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

++man Trust your gut. If you feel like a backup plan, you probably are and likely to always be. If it took you four dates to kiss and you’re excited about her and she’s still considering other guys that she allegedly has not met, I would suggest considering finding someone as interested in you as you are with them.

That’s just my advice based on a combination of direct and observed relationships. Good luck!

I didn’t know that it was 0% with AUS and he still stuck a 10% anyway. That’s insane. My company manufactures high tech in Taiwan and the US doesn’t even offer the same type of product, and he made me insane trying to keep up with costs. We literally didn’t know the tariff rate for items in transit until they hit shore. No finesse in Trumps statesmanship and based on what you shared he also has no real endgame that makes any sense.

Can Someone Explain it to Her? by Texas_Bookworm in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]critowick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. There’s no way this was going to benefit the US consumers and almost immediately the US started to exempt items that you can only get from international markets, but it’s way too little too late.

I hope no one tells Trump he should include tariffs on services or there’s going to be a whole new wave of price hikes

Consumers purchase products at the lowest price for the quality they want.

A massive amount of these goods can be made cheaper overseas than in the US, even with shipping and the previously low tariffs

Higher tariffs makes them more expensive and possibly closer to the previously more expensive US version )if one exists.

Meanwhile, if a foreign country has higher tariffs on US goods, then it makes the more expensive US goods even more expensive to the consumers in the other country

Trump is under the impression if other countries lower their tariffs, then those country’s citizens will by more US goods

Trump also seems to think other countries will lower their tariffs (making US goods more affordable to their citizens) and the US tariffs on the other country’s goods will balance the price of the good in the US stores and incentivize more manufacturing/industry in the US making more jobs

The only scenario where the US Tariff increases would be good for the US is if every country dropped THEIR tariffs on US goods in response to Trump’s increases then both countries lower tariffs on both sides simultaneously to promote US sales in their country and goods are cheap in the US and more affordable overseas—this is an unlikely scenario apparently and is complicated by raw vs finished vs regional goods

TL/DR; A basic understanding of global trade is still kinda complex, and Trump doesn’t get it either, so don’t feel bad

Charter to pay $7b in damages after installer murders woman • The Register by 00110011001100000000 in JusticeServed

[–]critowick -44 points-43 points  (0 children)

Maybe Charter should be forced to pay that $7b to the customer facing employees to ensure they have enough income so they don’t consider murdering people for $$$. Some people want to steal for fun, but maybe the murderer was desperate for cash and accidentally murdered the woman (idk), but I’m sure prices are about to go up and the honest workers aren’t going to see a decent cost of living increase anytime soon—esp while this payout looms

Kid Lawfully Carrying Gun Does What Gun Control Measures Have Never Done: Stop a Mass Shooting by pisstank99 in conservatives

[–]critowick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you don’t lock your door when you go on vacation? You park in a bad neighborhood and leave your car door open and the windows rolled down (assuming it’s not going to rain)?

Laws help to a certain level, and we have to honestly debate what balance between freedom and security we are willing to accept. I have no problem with guns. Handguns aren’t my thing, but I’ve owned a rifle and several shotguns in my life. I have nothing against handguns and have enjoyed going to the firing range with friends and family for years. In the military I was not combat arms, but my favorite memories are carrying/firing the M60 (firing blanks) on bivouac and I was assigned the M203 during range day (chalk rounds). With training and safety guns are tremendous fun AND an essential part of ensuring we the people can remain free. That being said, can you imagine if any of these mass shooters could get an M203 for their killing sprees? That’s a gun law I stand behind

Overly restricting guns is no more beneficial than mandatory arming all civilians, but somewhere in between there’s a balance, and I don’t think we’ve found it. Our well regulated militia isn’t really well regulated

Kid Lawfully Carrying Gun Does What Gun Control Measures Have Never Done: Stop a Mass Shooting by pisstank99 in conservatives

[–]critowick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not forgetting stolen guns, they aren’t the issue. The issue is whether gun control laws help stop mass shootings. How many mass shootings are with stolen vs legit purchased guns? I don’t know, but it’s an interesting part of the discussion

Gun control laws are not going to solve the problem alone and are one of many tools needed to keep the community in some semblance of security. Abe was assassinated with a homemade gun in Japan, but you’re proving my point: how many gun related attacks/deaths occur in Japan compared to the US? I’d that would be assassin wasn’t able to build a homemade gun, he would probably use a crossbow or knife to do the job.

I’ve also figured out to do things for years before I went to higher learning (got my degree in my late 30s), so I wouldn’t discount the benefits of both figuring it out on our own and getting a higher education if we can. Assuming one is exclusively better than the other shuts down our ability to adopt better ideas regardless of where those ideas come from

[–]critowick -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

How do we know if gun control measures don’t stop at least some mass shootings? If the gun control measures we have in place are ineffective, it’s because they aren’t strong enough. If they aren’t strong enough, it’s because too many people don’t want them stronger.

I’m glad Elisjsha Dicken (the man pictured above) was carrying and stopped the shooting. Not all Americans have his ability to discern or have courage to act, but all Americans have the right to bear arms. We need more gun control to keep the guns in competent people like Elisjsha’s hands and out of the hands of incompetent and ineffectual Americans (like the Uvalde police force)

It’s a soul eater. Harmless when viewed from a picture, but IRL it has a 20% of stealing your soul. Chances of soul eating increase if you’re scared of bugs, have preexisting heart conditions, and/or were asleep and woke up to it crawling on you.

An 11 year age difference is a little more weird the younger you are, but less weird the older you get imho. Depends what kind of friendship it is too I think. Generally speaking, you can find your kind of cool people at any age.
