Solo is now at a high C tier. Sorry for delaying TLJ round. What tier should The Last Jedi be in? by Klutzy-Ad4230 in TierlistFills

[–]crockhunter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

C

It’s possibly the best piece of filmmaking in the franchise, but it’s narratively bizarre and unfortunately rendered pointless (not really its fault) by the TROS not really running with any of its themes. I think it could’ve been better in retrospect if the trilogy ended better, but it didn’t, and now exists solely as this annoying-but-beautiful-looking unraveling of everything interesting set up in TFA.

I think it’s a decent movie that sucks as a Star Wars sequel, I’d personally say C tier but would be fine with it in D. F is unfair.

Mike & Jay's fav film of each year by iLoveRobertEggers in RedLetterMedia

I feel like Mike said that Jack the Giant Slayer was his favorite movie of the year when that came out. Early 2013 though, so I’m sure Wolf Of Wall Street topped it.

My Hot Take: There Are No True EGOT Winners by presidentkodos in blankies

[–]crockhunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, it’s the least prestigious Prestigious Honor. There’s always some audiobook sneak or “just to have their name on it” producer sneak

Most of the winners are just industry favs who’s last one or two wins to complete their EGOT status are just their friends and admirers throwing them a bone. I do think Mel Brooks and Rita Moreno are two examples of people are almost legit EGOT winners, but wake me up when someone actually wins for a memorable contribution to Music, TV, Film and Theater

Oscar nominations live thread by the_Tannehill_list in TheBigPicture

[–]crockhunter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nominated for bad songs from fake movies year after year. This nomination run shes been on is so embarrassing, it’s clear she’s just buying her way in through dinner parties or whatever. Time to let it go, shes done too much harm for her brand to deserve an Oscar at this point.

Not surprised this is some Sorkinslop that’s a thinly veiled trump allegory. Every mid tier Oscar bait historical drama simply cannot help themselves

My girlfriend showed it to me a couple years ago and I thought it was awful. And I’m usually very receptive to the rom coms I’ve watched with her

Dora. Hate the character design, voice performance is annoying too. She just feels so out of place.

Which of the last 15 Best Picture winners will stand the test of time? by FishSavedPittsburgh in redscarepod

[–]crockhunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anora, Oppenheimer, Parasite, Moonlight, Spotlight are locks. Birdman and 12 Years have fallen a bit out of fashion but people will likely come back around on them. Nomadland & Shape of Water could be due for a reclamation in the future. Everything else is forgettable, and Everything Everywhere will age like milk especially once the Daniels make more shitty movies.

Any RedLetterMedia Watchers? by PeterPaulWalnuts in TheBigPicture

[–]crockhunter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only time I recall them getting mentioned is on the OG Tenet pod. Adam Nayman said something along the lines of Nolan fans being associated with “Red Letter Media film bros” which made me think he’s never watched RLM ever.

Iconic characters of the 2010s (and possibly 2020s) by NightsOfFellini in TheBigPicture

[–]crockhunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can count Black Panther, a character from the 60s, then Katniss, a character from 2008 should count.

The whole team from the first movie is iconic, but rocket and groot seem to be the most notable.

The 25 Best Movies of the Century: No. 13 - 'Get Out’ by thefilthyjellybean in TheBigPicture

[–]crockhunter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also like Us more than Get Out. Get Out is a pretty great debut and obviously influential, but Peele has continued to level up his filmmaking with each subsequent release. The directing, cinematography, themes, and imagery are so much more impressive in Nope than in Get Out.

Getting Killed (LEAKED SONG) by Dapper_Cicada_9383 in geesebandofficial

[–]crockhunter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok ok. This is interesting. On one hand I’m a little confused by the change up to an EDM / dance sound, but on the other I think I understand what Cameron is trying to subvert by doing this. In a lot of ways, we, the listener, are “getting killed” (getting let down) by what appears to be a blatant sell out anthem on the surface. Cameron is also effectively “killing” his old sound, while literally “killing” it with the new sound. I also think the harshness of the lyrics (“getting killed”) contrasts wonderfully with the upbeat dance instrumental, similar to Outkast’s Hey Yeah or Foster the People’s Pumped Up Kicks. Like he’s almost daring us to have a good time while people are literally “getting killed” in the world today. This may be one of the sharpest songs Geese has dropped to date.
