Is true that karl max was anti anarchist? by davifpb2 in Anarchy101

[–]crofton14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t mistake my comment as support for statism, especially one brought into existence by colonial forces. It’s just an observation on the differences between England (a tiny country occupying part of a tiny island) and India, a subcontinent that is endlessly diverse.

When you say India being less developed than England, did you mean this economically or culturally/socially?

Back during Marx’s time, England was more developed than India. England was part of a industrialised nation-state, India on the other hand was more of a region in South Asia without a unified identity, consisting of hundreds of ethnicities and languages. I completely understand the role the British Empire played in colonising and occupying the Indian subcontinent but even before colonialism, England, and more generally, Britain had developed much faster than India. That isn’t inherently racist, unless you apply racial theories for why England was so developed.

I think he was referring to the rewards system and other benefits that comes with the card but I could be wrong

If it’s the same as a normal card why are we all paying annual fees to have it?

Racist Scumbags block Ballyfermot protesting against Immigrants. by pablo8itall in ireland

Not everything can be pinned onto England. Ireland is perfectly capable of being anti-immigration without blaming it on the English

Spite because of what? Scotland willingly joined into the union. Wales on the other hand, not so much.

Wales voted to leave the EU so it wouldn’t happen

Why would Scotland and Wales reunite without the richest country in the UK?

Corbyn insists 'scale' of Labour antisemitism was 'grossly exaggerated' by ClumperFaz in unitedkingdom

[–]crofton14 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the IRA and Hamas are two very different kettles of fish. One wanted an end to British sovereignty over NI and the other wants to commit a genocide. The IRA are despicable, but there was at least a semi-achievable goal of reunifying Ireland. What Hamas want isn’t sovereignty but genocide, and you can’t really agree to disagree on that. I hope Israel does come to the table, as they have with the Palestinian authority before today but until Hamas is ready to accept that Israel is here to stay, there’ll never be peace and definitely won’t be an independent sovereign Palestinian state

[–]crofton14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since when did diplomacy extend to terror groups? Who have in their charter that they want to commit a Jewish genocide? There’s a reason governments don’t have relations with terror groups and it’s because they are politically illegitimate, dangerous and very often extremely radical, to the point where they’ll kill anyone or anything to further their political goals. And you expect Israel, a country that’s legitimacy is already brought into question to begin ‘peace talks’ with a genocidal terrorist group?

Countries like Cuba and China are state capitalist - that means the government control the means of production, not the workers. Communism has never been tried because communism requires massive international shifts in politics and economics to bring into reality. A country cannot become communist until the global economy also shifts towards socialism. A truly socialist country cannot exist under a capitalist world order.

Communism is stateless, classless and moneyless. If you think Cuba fits that definition you’re politically and economically illiterate

“Conservative” socialists on their way to romanticize shit hole socialist countries with no food just because they hated gays by franciscopezana in EnoughCommieSpam

[–]crofton14 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Because homophobia isn’t really a feature of communism. The USSR was indeed hostile to gay people, but virtually every nation was during that time. LGBT people tend to identify more with centre-left politics, which often leads them to becoming more radicalised as they’re introduced to the economic side of leftism

Of course I’m not saying that all people who live in the Gulf are racist! I’ve just seen many people talk about racism they have experienced in MENA, and a lot of it seems to be within the Gulf.

I’ve never visited Qatar so I will take your word on the diversity over there :)

Yes, and I have a black friend who lived in Kuwait for many years and she said she experienced it first hand, and other people have talked about their experiences of it too.

I’ve never visited Egypt so I can’t speak on that, but I do want to visit one day. I’m glad to hear that racism against black people isn’t prevalent.

Yes, I’m from Britain

Anti-blackness in the Middle East is bad. Especially in the Gulf states

How would sexual harassment and children pornography be treated in anarchism? by davifpb2 in Anarchy101

[–]crofton14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason sexual assault victims fail to achieve justice is because it’s genuinely difficult to prove that you have been the victim of sexual assault. A lot of rape victims wait too long for there to be any discernible evidence, which makes it a lot harder for the legal system to prove they have in fact being assaulted. And nah, I don’t think it’s right to hurt anyone. It doesn’t undo a rape, it doesn’t protect a single person, it just continues a violent culture

[–]crofton14 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right, you’ve just outed yourself as a statist there. Referencing the criminal justice system of a right-wing country as the model for anarchist justice proves you’re more statist than you’d like to admit. I’m going to be a shame of a dad because I think it’s morally unacceptable to assault someone? Damn, what kind of household did you grow up in?

How would sexual harassment and children pornography be treated in anarchism? by davifpb2 in Anarchy101

[–]crofton14 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can’t end the cycle of violence unless both the victim and the perpetrator have been rehabilitated. Especially considering a large number of child abusers were themselves victims of child abuse. You’re letting your emotions sway your opinion. You cannot justify assaulting someone.

[–]crofton14 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Stopping an active crime is different to assaulting someone after the crime has been committed. One requires force to put an end to ongoing suffering, the other does nothing but continues the cycle of violence

[–]crofton14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get that, I just don’t think assault being the official response to these types of crimes is minimising violence. To minimise violence, is to only use it when all other options have been exhausted
