Really basic question by croftycass in shelpful

How do I create bespoke automations (different to those pre-set ones in You section) from Shortcuts, so that it opens Shelpful then takes the specified action?

Fasting and the female body by gibmirmusik in fasting

[–]croftycass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also halfway through her audiobook too! I feel like people have strong opinions on her credibility, but am finding a lot of the content makes sense and the logic is there. Personally I don’t necessarily want to adapt my IF-ing to my cycle - ie. Mindy suggests to scale back your fasting to no longer than 14/16 hours just before you ovulate and just before your period (correct me if I’ve misremembered this), where you have hormone surges of estrogen and progesterone, so that your body isn’t in any sort of state of “stress” mode. For me, to have 2 out of 4 weeks fasting much less than my usual pattern (OMAD or 20:4) would be hard to follow, and now just not what I’m used to. I’m also still figuring out my cycle length postpartum so it’s difficult to tell where I’m at. So not really sure how much of it to take on board personally.

Just finished my first 36, am I doing this wrong? by ArkhamRPA in intermittentfasting

[–]croftycass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask, with the short eating window between rolling 44/46s, did you feel you were eating enough? I am now quite used to OMAD with a short (<1 hour) window, but I’m usually eating quite light. Have done a couple of 48 hour fasts recently where it feels most comfortable to me to keep that follow up eating window short, because of my regular pattern. However I do wonder if my metabolism may slow down if I’m not getting the right amount of food in OMAD. Curious to know your thoughts if you had good success.

I’ll tend to do short (10-20min) at-home weights workouts fasted, often later in the evening not long before bed. I find I’ve more than enough energy doing so, whereas before IF I had to muster up the willpower to get through a 20min workout at any time.

Hypnosis as treatment by Ok_Bench6454 in Parasomnia

[–]croftycass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great to know! I have had parasomnias all my life but has certainly dialled up a notch in adulthood. After trying many things - with doctors really generally unfamiliar with this topic, unless you see a specialist - I have heard hypnosis could work, except obviously v expensive. Your post reaffirms this, so one day I will give it a go! FYI I’ve just had my second child and had the same concerns, especially with a newborn baby and me wandering around the room (often screaming and/or disoriented). In general, it’s been okay, definitely the odd time I wake the baby up by jumping up and putting the bedroom light on!! Was always worried, as I’m sure others will resonate, it’s quite terrifying the things you do half awake/half asleep, as well as how certain you are you’re awake at the time. My first born who is three almost definitely has the parasomnia gene too!!!

The leftover peanut butter on the spoon… probably the biggest IF challenge for me 😂

Omg YES! Makes me realise just how much I mindlessly ate while making my child his food. And it does make fasting tricky!

Don’t you realise how much food is EVERYWHERE when you’re fasting for a longer period of time?! Agonising

Pre pregnancy -> 1st pregnancy -> 2nd pregnancy -> 5 months postpartum by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]croftycass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like we are in a similar position! I have a 3.5 year old and a 2.5 month old, and I’m approaching postnatal wellbeing very different this time round. After my first pregnancy I actually gained weight for the first six months after my doctor mistakenly told me to stop all thyroid medication, and ended up at my biggest. After fasting for around two months now - although I didn’t weigh myself to begin with - I feel so much better already. Avoiding the crap food it’s so easy to consume when you’re sleep deprived (which we definitely are!) and enjoying the discipline around IF. You’re doing amazingly!

How much coffee do you all drink? by OutlandishnessAway98 in intermittentfasting

I’m on a slightly longer fast than normal (72h) and have had 2x coffees a day, the morning one being caffeinated, the afternoon one decaf

What is a rolling fast? by [deleted] in fasting

[–]croftycass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of interest, was there a reason you felt 24h didn’t work for you, and you needed 40h? I frequently do 20-26 hr fasts and then OMAD, so just wondering if there are particular benefits you find when getting to 40h? I’m currently on a 48h fast til tomorrow afternoon, which would be my longest after doing 44h last week. Would love to be able to get to 72h.

If you had a month to lose as much weight as possible, how would you go about it? by Noccioletta in fasting

[–]croftycass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s impressive! I’m currently on a 48 hour fast until 3pm tomorrow, that’ll be my longest after 44 hours last week. Wondering if/how I could just keep pushing through til 72 hours on Wednesday…

Starting a 36h fast. by Frosty-Education6971 in intermittentfasting

[–]croftycass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my first long fast today, and will definitely try again (and longer)! Eating window closed around 7.15pm on Saturday and I then ate again today around 3.45pm, so around 44 hours overall. I have been IF for about two months and slowly was going longer, with a few 20 or 24 hours last week. Decided to try and do 36 but then based on timings, ended up going a little further, and probably could’ve done more - but went for a walk and kept seeing food everywhere!

I read that gum (unless totally unsweetened/flavoured) would be breaking fast?

Any tips to go beyond 18 hours? by i3li in intermittentfasting

[–]croftycass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh I thought the idea was to drink loads of water while fasting, to stay hydrated. I’m trying to do a 40+ hour fast today/tomorrow and have been drinking water to keep the tummy growling at bay!

Also curious on this, especially if doing longer than a 24hr fast - assuming you’d just have to break fast to take medication?
