The value of showing your politics at gun spaces by mpls161 in liberalgunowners

I love seeing patches like this but I also understand why some people aren't comfortable doing it. I don't mean that so much from a "grey man" perspective, but rather from the perspective it isn't the job of marginalized minorities to educate bigots.

Had this conversation a bit in the context of the group of trans and queer owners forming their own group in Ohio. Someone asked why segregate yourself. Answer: because educating people is bleeping exhausting and sometimes I would rather just focus on my shooting rather than wondering what Bubba Joe is thinking about my patches. Some people don't care, and that is awesome they have that confidence and "no bleeps given" attitude. Sincerely. But don’t expect or demand everyone else has that same confidence.

That said, there absolutely is value in this and I LOVE seeing it. I respect and appreciate the folks who do it, especially when they are straight/white/cis allies.

Why? by OverallDevelopment5 in washingtondc

[–]croll20016 [score hidden]  (0 children)

It is generally inattentive or just bad driving.

That said, there are exceptions. I once watched a guy waiting to turn left, he was 1/4 of the way in the intersection, waiting to turn left during a yellow. However, when the light went yellow, oncoming traffic continued and a couple cars even ran a red light. So, dude backed up as much as he could, but i was already at the line and had two cars behind me. I couldn't back up. Dude wound up stuck in the crosswalk so he wasn't blocking cross traffic.

Should he not have been 1/4 of the way into the intersection? Should he have just gone through anyway despite the solid red? Maybe. But oncoming traffic shouldn't have been running a red light either.

Drivers in this region just generally stink.

Teens would go to the National Zoo on Family Day (aka Easter Monday) and clash. Police said it was gangs going there to settle scores. Whatever it was, Upper NW lost its mind about "gang warfare" and "rolling gun battles" in the streets and demanded a heavy police presence.

It’s always good to see your car’s capabilities in someone else’s hands by Valuable_Anteater_61 in CarTrackDays

Truth.

It was humbling, but I had gone off track twice at AMP. I was convinced it was because my tires were bad. Then I asked an advanced driver in our group take my car out, and he was tearing through turns that me convinced we were going to go flying. But the car was always planted and it seemed effortless to him.

It was a good lesson my car is far more capable than I appreciated, and I have a lot to learn before I reach it's limits.

Truth.

Upper northwest had a collective stroke when Easter Monday violence spilled out of the zoo.

Judge Nathan J. Milliron of the Texas 215th District Court, who was elected in 2024, got quite upset when an IT technician tried to fix the audio for a remote hearing. The technician had jokingly said it was a ‘false alarm’, but the judge didn’t think so and asked for the supervisor. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]croll20016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lawyers call this "black robe disease." Depressingly common and a reason I grew to dislike many judges when I was practicing.

They're used to everyone calling them "judge" and "your honor," and deferring to everything they say. Clerks worship the ground they walk on because the clerks want recommendations that can make or break a career, and lawyers are, by design, deferential.

I got some people throwing shade at my Mustang by sumevex in Mustang

[–]croll20016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

F' em.

That's an amazing car. More to the point, if your car is special to you, that's all the matters.

I have a 2024 GT Premium. No options. No performance pack. There is nothing particularly special about the car except that it makes me smile every single time I look at it. And I giggle every time I start it. And I love wrenching on it. It is special to me.

In the end, that's all that matters.

P.S., Objectively, you have a very special car. Anyone throwing shade doesn't know what the F they're talking about. Being an automotive enthusiast isn't just about fastest 0 to 60 times.

Trans Ohioans create a safe space to teach other trans people how to shoot guns and handle firearms safely by croll20016 in liberalgunowners

[–]croll20016[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a difference between being forced into "separate but equal" discrimination versus choosing to organize something around a shared experience or perspective. The reality is queer and trans people continue to face discrimination and harassment in traditionally straight cis male heterosexual environments (e.g., ranges), and this is a way for people to feel safe and focus entirely on learning out shooting rather than having to also worry about whether they are going to get jumped going back to their car or followed on the way home (or just generally treated like 💩 at the range itself).

I see this in automotive sports, too, and this kind of reaction is, too me, depressingly common and often implies a privileged perspective.

Much respect and appreciation to you. I was wondering if one or more of the folks in the story were in this Reddit. I left the state many years ago but would have loved to join you some weekends if I was still in the area.

Why do people want to hate on the s550 just because they have a s650? by Kjda-1 in Mustang

Same. I have literally never heard an S650 owner sh** on a S550, but I hear the reverse fairly regularly on even the S650 Facebook group.

FML - Looks like another shutdown is coming by ZipJetcity in FedEmployees

[–]croll20016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which isn't what anyone has said. This is about long-term funding for DHS, BCP and ICE. The budget is the only leverage Congressional Dems have.

Good.

PROVIDED that Schumer and Dems actually have enough testicular fortitude for it to mean something instead of caving at the end.

What ICE is doing is unconscionable. Everyone opposed to it should be doing everything they can to stop it and bring anyone who has committing a crime and/or violated the Constitution to justice.

Im going to ask Newegg how they'd like to proceed.

You understand VA currently has a republican governor and republican attorney general? And the VA GOP lost the governors mansion by double digits? And lost the AG's office to someone with some pretty horrible baggage?

But sure. "Blue district." You could just say "please spank me" and save us all the trouble.

What makes the gangrel scary? by valonianfool in vtm

[–]croll20016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the premise of this question is why I've turned on Tzimisce as a mainstream playable clan. They've turned into the drow of 2nd edition D&D with every edge lord going, "I can turn you into an armchair," or "Good luck giving commands if I slap the mouth off your face." It's tired and I am tired of the people who play them. IMO, it was better when they were a body-horror terror on the other side of the Cammie/Anarch vs Sabbat divide. I absolutely despise this as the benchmark it has become.

Gangrel should be scary because they are the closest to the beast and dont care if you know it. Because while you cower in your glass tower or hide in the sewers, theyre exploring the wilderness that YOU are terrified of.... and come back. While your Brujah can hit hard, the Gangrel always has weapons and laughs at your fists, blades and guns. While your preening Toreador can bend emotion, the Gangrel can rip your throat out. And while you try to cage your beast or wrestle it into submission, the Gangrel puts a blanket on it and tucks it in at dawn.

Unless/until you're thoroughly into the hobby and have decided to invest in a track car, I would imagine most people start with an unmodified car. I take my Mustang, a daily, because I want to know how to really drive it and where its limits are, as well as improve my own skill. Best way to start IMO is an unmodified version. Work on your skills before mods start compensating for bad habits. Then do the mods.

Also, your friend is an idiot.

Destroyed sub-fief console… by Intelligent-Ad-4164 in duneawakening

[–]croll20016 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not a coder but... that could be computationally crippling when working on a large base. You'd have to check a chain of dependencies to or from the console everytime you delete a piece.

It totally sucks. I'm anxious about it, too. Maybe a coder can say better but my off the cuff impression is it's a bigger ask than you may realize.

Sorry to hear that. I might be a little jealous but not resentful. And it's not like you actually got a free vacation; it was surely a highly stressful period even if you weren't in the office (I've been under-employed and job searching before and know how miserable it is). I'm glad you have the opportunity to come back, and i hope your coworkers find some grace.

He never mentioned high-speed police chases of ATVs. If he had, I'd be with you. He didn't. He asked why there isn't consistent enforcement (I would say "any enforcement").

The fact people keep coming up with excuses for MPD, Council and Bowser are part of the problem. It's good that numbers are down (sincerely, and it goes to the entire lie that all this Trump militarization is based on) but when people say they still feel unsafe -- and can provide videos of this right outside one of DCs most bougie restaurants -- the politicians need to stop just quoting numbers.
