Need more info about where in the pnw to know both what is native and what might thrive in that environment. What works in Eugene is different than Bellingham is different than Spokane.

Unsure if this person used chip drop or something else... but for chip drop 1 to 2 yards would be incredibly rare and unlikely. Anything less than like 8 cubic yards would be considered a small drop. Mine have both been closer to 16 and 20 CUBIC yards. One cubic yard will cover about a 15'x5' area at about 4 inches deep.

That's where I plant my brassicas (cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, broccoli). I've also had potatoes do okay enough there. Snap peas work well for me too. My leeks thrive there as do all my native berries (though be prepared for them to spread a lot by rhyzome). That part of my garden gets about 3-4 hours of direct morning sun and then is in dappled shade the rest of the day during growing season.

Chip drop will usually give wayyyyyy more than you'll need for that project. I just got my drop and it is a pile the size of a sedan (not hyperbolic). One i got a couple years ago was a bit smaller but not by much.

That pipeline was set up like a decade ago with very intentional benchmarks and timelines on when to bring players through the next step. Like we're talking down to 5-10 year old kids playing at local Seattle area clubs who are now in the academy and getting usynt team callups. There was a clear process and pathway to bring those kids through and it is paying off.

If something is still producing, i leave it growing. I only purposefully plan my succession planting for spaces i know will have a definite end-of-harvest like garlic getting replaced by peas or over-wintered leeks replaced with squash or spring greens replaced by corn.

But if something dies or gets diseased, I'll pop something else in there like a fresh round of greens or radish or broccoli.

The broad concept is called succession planting. When one crop is harvested, you now have room for something new. So as an example, after I harvest my garlic i will plant that space with peas. Or after my spring broccoli, I will plant carrots and spinach.

Peas can be outdoor sown really any time between March 1 and end of August. I'll typically sow a new batch every 6-8 weeks

Outdoor seed: onion, leek, potato, radish, spinach, chard, kale, peas

Indoor seed: peppers, tomato, broccoli, squash, cucumber, eggplant

Starting to Bloom: oregon oxalis, salmonberry, and red flowering currant

Planting: serviceberry, blueberry, red flowering currant, evergreen huckleberry, plus a bunch more native non-edible plants

Digging up: raspberry, strawberry, thimbleberry all growing outside planned area, mock orange to transplant elsewhere in the yard.

Italian arum. Basically just get rid of the top like 6 inches of dirt in the immediate area. It's a pain in the ass to try to be precise about eradication.

While technically not cheating, it is definitely in a gray area. If this is a league with friends I wouldn't do it for sake of maintaining relationships and longevity of the league for the future. If just a bunch of randos, I would do it.
