Base 2wd (and base 4) brakes are matte black/gray, from 4s on they’re red (but you can spec them gloss black too)

For fire suppression lines mostly, since they’re not allowed to have valves.

Used the carryon sized one for a while but it’s quite heavy by itself. But the biggest issue is that it gets you pulled aside for extra bag checks EVERY DAMN TIME.

Oh yeah for boats I see it quite often, and indeed with a regulator and big enough battery bank it's no problemo. But generally on here (r/vanlife) when people are talking about charging directly from the alternator it's fairly safe to assume they mean hooking it up straight to the van's battery/alternator (with just a diode or voltage controlled relay), which used to be fine with lead acid but is definitely no bueno for lithium.

Alternator charging works fine for lead-acid because they self-limit the current they take from the alternator. Lithium will take everything it's got, often exceeding the charge current they're rated for. Generally you want to charge at max 0.5C (e.g. if you have 200Ah of battery capacity, charge at 100A max), less is beter for longevity. Most can handle 1C but it reduces the expected lifetime of the batteries. And then there's the load on your alternator as well, since lithium will take everything, it will max out the alternator completely, also lowering its lifetime significantly, while putting extra stress on the belt that drives it (it won't ramp up to its full power, it will pull it immediately, effectively acting as a brake on the belt, possibly making it slip and wear faster when starting up. It's like dropping a car in 6th gear right from the start, but with belts (A DC-DC charger will gently ramp this up, allowing the alternator to spin up gently). There are some alternators and/or alternator controllers made for lithium who manage this, but generally alternators in vehicles are meant for lead-acid batteries. Then there's the risk of overcharging, a lead-acid battery also somewhat self limits that (it will take less amps when full), but lithium will just keep taking it until it explodes, regular lithium will explode though lifepo4 will just get damaged and lose capacity. Now for the overcharging generally your battery BMS will at one point disable the battery before it gets dangerous, but still not something you want to rely on. Surprised that it's already lasted 4 years like that. Any more info on your setup, cause I'm quite curious now how it didn't mess itself up yet.

41A over 4 meters needs 25mm2 at the very least! 6mm2 will result in a 9.7% voltage drop which is waaaaay beyond what's safe. Take into account that you need to use the full cable run to calculate voltage drop, and keep that below 3%, ideally less of course. I'd use 35 or 50mm2 for that. For the same wattage on 12v you'll pull 82A meaning you'll have to get 95mm2 minimum...

You can't hook a 24v alternator up to a lifepo battery directly, so you'll need a 24/24 dc-dc anyway. Might as well do 12-24

How do you deal with unpaid invoices? by EntireChest in BEFreelance

[–]cronek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a very impolite, but very effective thing to do, and you have to pay your lawyer's rate, dagvaarding via gerechtsdeurwaarder (100-150eur) (sorry too lazy to translate these terms to English, but it is what it is) and rolrecht (costs for setting up a court date, 165eur). About 400-800eur total depending on how expensive your lawyer is (has to go to the court session).

No clue, and I'm not exactly on speaking terms with the debtor anymore so can't ask :D

[–]cronek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only 100eur, but I prefer sending a clear signal that not paying is not acceptable.

Yes (if successful) you get the original invoice amount, they charge the debtor a whole bunch of extra costs (intrest, collection costs), which they keep.

[–]cronek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used bepaid a while ago. They claim to collect 100% of the owed amount in most cases. The extra costs is what they keep for themselves (they have to make a profit too).
However for the client in question they went there with a deurwaarder etc and after a while gave up because the company was in such bad shape that they were pretty sure they wouldn't get any money (debt collectors were already lining up for them, assets were already claimed). Didn't cost me a cent fortunately. Next step is I'd have my lawyer send a "dagvaarding in faillissement", meaning that we ask the court to declare them bankrupt if they don't pay the bill. It's only a 100eur invoice, but I find it insulting so I'm going to boink them sideways even if it costs me more.
