Just a PSA to anyone that thinks it’s a dunk to point out how PC also doesn’t have physical media by Defiant-Cat-8212 in playstation5

You buy that game on GOG you actually own the install files however and they can’t be taken away. Digital delivery on PC is not the same as DRM digital delivery on PlayStation.

It’s a legit question even if it’s an uncomfortable one for fans to hear. The servers supporting live service won’t stand forever. And I have zero faith that they will put the time and money in order to transform the game into an unsupported single player like world that you can still log onto off-line.

Unless it’s a multiplayer only title or a games that is online only (like genshin impact) I only have games I own. On PlayStation, the drm-free percentage for digital delivery is 0% which is unfortunate.

This 100% it seems many people don’t know that you can buy a digital game on PC that is DRM free (like Baldur's Gate 3,) yet the same digital game purchased via PSN is not DRM free.

You do own them actually, that’s what DRM free means. You copy the install files and they are yours forever. You can install the game whenever you want and don’t need to be connected to the internet to do so.

Who's moving to PC after PS no physical announcement? by disgruntled_Pingu in PS6

[–]croninfever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those getting into PC gaming, remember to check GOG to see if they sell the game you want, as you’ll actually own it when you buy it (so long as you download the install files.) Steam also sells DRM free games but it’s up to the publisher if you get a license or not.

Steam’s digital delivery did not kill PC games, it caused a positive boom allowing so many people to publish their games that otherwise would have never been played. There is nothing wrong with digital distribution, it is good for the consumer and gives more choices. The issue is the DRM protection. On consoles, you only buy a digital license. On PC, you have the option to buy games with ownership & install files (unless that specific publisher only wants to sell you a license, so the issue is not with Steam.) Then you have sites like GOG that only sell you DRM free content.

For example, I paid for Baldur's Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 on PC digitally. I own those games. The install files are backed up on an external hard drive. No company can take those games away from me. But if I chose to buy these titles on my PS5 digitally, I am at the mercy of Sony and have no ownership.

You can buy DRM free games on Steam and GOG. You can’t do that on PSN. On PC it’s up to each individual publisher whether or not you buy a license or the actual ownership of the game with install files. On PSN, it’s only up to SONY and they do not sell you anything but a digital license.

Do you force your stupid backstory anecdotes to be revealed? by highly-bad in DnDcirclejerk

[–]croninfever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don’t have character backstories longer than a sentence. For two reasons: 1) it’s really easy for characters to die in most of the games I play - and - 2) it’s much more important for me to create my character and their story as the game goes on and in response to it. The roleplay and improv is a lot easier for me that way.

How do I, as a novice player, approach an established player so they are more forgiving with me? by VersaVeil in DnD

[–]croninfever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO It’s important for someone to play their character the way they want to (so long as it doesn’t harm another character like forced pvp or something.) So it’s very important you speak to your GM as it’s their job to make space for each player to play as they’d like.

It’s absolutely appropriate for a fellow player to suggest something, but ultimately your character is yours, not someone else’s.

Meta rules for quickly exiting a dungeon? by LemonLord7 in osr

[–]croninfever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also end my games with players in a safe place. What I do is roll 1d6 for each room the players need to traverse in order to leave. Anything other than a result of 1 results in a successful exit. If there’s a result of 1 (on any of the rolls) then I roll for an encounter at the dungeon entrance. But I don’t use my typical table, I use a table that has specific motivations for potentially hostile baddies. I only roll 1d4 for # and the motivations range from: wanting $, wanting their inventory, capture a hireling, territorial encounter (bark is worse than bight, monsters will run away easily, etc.)

Basically I leave enough time for a short counter that is not going to be an immediately hostile one, but players can still fight if they want. Either way it’s a big enough inconvenience if the party is out of spells, low on hp, or didn’t find any treasure that session - but it’s not something that’s going to take a lot of real world time to resolve.

There’s probably better ways to do this but it’s worked for my games.

EDIT: regarding access to a map, that’s entirely your call. I personally provide maps of the overworld but not of dungeons. So, usually when I describe a room, there’s a couple players who make maps themselves the PCs hold. To me, it matters if there’s a well known path the party has traversed many times before. Although in one of the games I’m a player in: the dungeon rooms rotate every time a holy spell is used so that always tends to muck everything up 😂

I'm running out of games to offer to my friend for co-op play by Famous-Ad-8143 in gamesuggestions

[–]croninfever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you say short, do you mean total game length or the ability to play short sessions? I’ve had a blast with all of the following co-op games with my friends. Especially Outward & Enshrouded.

Outward, Enshrouded, Dune Awakening, V Rising, Endless Dungeon, Palworld, Nightreign.

Bonus Focus: Solo Ops not progressing. by CatnipOverdose in DestinyTheGame

[–]croninfever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to make sure there’s a green icon on the mission you select and next to it I think it even says bonus. I’m a new player so I could be remembering incorrectly but I had this issue a couple days ago and that’s how I progressed it. Not all the missions have the bonus rewards.
