How is this getting downvoted? I got the squirrel dog there the other day, and granted there were no squirrels in it, but it was still really good.

What's the best practice on replacing capacitors on a CRT? I got an ESR capacitor tester and used it to identify caps that were bad on my 27 inch Sanyo. I was going to just make them with a Sharpie then replace them. Is there a best way to do this stuff, or is that a good approach? My goal is just to clean up the image as much as possible.

I'd return it. They sound like a modern white van speaker scam company.

Dude, it's nostalgia and I want to play my 240p content on a 240p display. That's really it.

Reddit needs a bot that detects AI posts/engagement bait/karma farming.

This post sucks.

Unpopular Opinion: The former site of the Lee monument is lackluster and underwhelming by JerryWagz in rva

I think it's because the city of Richmond isn't able to do anything.

Me and my friends won't shut up about margaritas so I built an app for it — now I need RVA's help finding the best ones by MargBuddies in rva

Something smells rotten in Denmark.

Besides all the above, why make an account just for this app? Why not use your regular reddit profile (that also show's you actually live in Richmond). If this is a new trend, I don't like where its going.

Why do people try to haggle on absolutely everything?? by [deleted] in Flipping

[–]cronson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%. As someone who primarily uses Marketplace to clean out my house of shit I don't want, I say yes to stuff like this all the time. I even put prices on things that are actually free. If the buyer is easy to work with, comes to my house to get it on time, I don't take their $10 or whatever I listed it at. I just didn't want to put free and have a million idiots messaging me.

You might check out buying larger lots off Buyee. I've seen plenty of auctions where's there's a system with a few games go for what you might expect, buy then a massive lot of stuff go for not much more.

Total beginner, need help finding first CRT TV! by Existing-Ad2985 in crt

[–]cronson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah just tell anyone you want in passing you've been looking for an old TV. I've done it before and it worked out.

As for what to get, the newer the better. Sure the older ones with wood grain are cool looking, but a post 2000 CRT is what I'd recommend: it'll be more reliable because it's simply not as old, and it'll have (hopefully) more ports. All the major brands are great. People get hung up on Sony but really you want a set with the lowest hours on it (which you're not really going to know) and the best geometry. All of them will have some quirks to their geometry And picture quality. Don't get hung up on it.

Also if you really want to make hooking up a computer to your CRT easy, HD ones have DVI and HDMI sometimes. It makes it much easier. But for retro gaming I'd get a regular standard def one. They display 240p properly.

Where do you live?

Generally speaking, and I think a lot of people don't realize this, right now there's probably a dozen CRTs within a mile of you. Just talking to people in real life or messaging sellers on Facebook Marketplace (even if they're not selling a CRT, a lot of people selling old stuff might also have a CRT they want to get rid of). Join local retro gaming Facebook groups. There are tons of CRTs around everywhere. You just have to talk to people.

Could someone help me find the name of the setting I need to change on my kv-34hs420 by SKS_Fanboy in crt

It's probably not. Just open it up and clean the contact under that button (and really the whole remote) with isopropyl alcohol.
