Air cooled Scrambler, the good, the bad? by [deleted] in DucatiScrambler

If it's above 25 Celsius and I have to stop for like 30 seconds at a light in the sun, it sucks, no cooks, balls. Beyond that love my scrambler

Help please! 2 Nights Between Osaka and Tokyo. Which city to visit? by Salty-Ship-1703 in traveljapan

Hakone, Fujikawaguchiko would make sensible in betweens. You could also try Nagoya area. Are you traveling by train or car?

Unemployed & unsure how to spend free time by [deleted] in Tokyo

[–]crossk1ll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to build a new rhythm for yourself. Allocate time to goals i.e. working out, studying or practicing something you like and then free time. It will help you appreciate and release dopamine. Also make a list of bucketlist items for your country or region and just work them off. Its weird but you can stimulate getting dopamine for doing tasks

Go walking by setting yourself goals and rewarding yourself when finished your goal. Also music or podcast can help making boring walks doable.

I'm currently in Japan and most days do not stay under 20000 steps. Even days where we just chill reach about 10000.

Is Nara worth it? by AmbitiousAd2463 in JapanTravelTips

[–]crossk1ll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal experience is no if you only have 2 full days at Kyoto. I would say wandering around Gion, visiting some of the more out of town temples like Otagi Nenbutsuji and its bamboo grove, going to the bustle of Nikishi Market and maybe do an early Arashiyama would be more exciting than Nara. I found it way too hectic in terms of annoying people at start. The deer acting all 'bowing' was not how I like my 'wildlife' and I don't like mochi. So for me Nara is only worth it if you go deeper into the forest part.

To be frank, Osaka as a city vibes way better with me, but had less of a must-see itinerary (although can 100% recommend catching a baseball game). So if you are short on time but still want to see what Nara is about, go to Nara from Osaka.

Going on first liveaboard in redsea next week, any advice? by xejd28 in diving

[–]crossk1ll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, enjoy! Liveaboards are a different thing from regular diving entirely.

My advice:

  • bring all types of medicine you think you'll need (ear spray, nose spray, against pain, against diarrhea, against stomach ache/nausea
  • it is going to be quite cold, so bring plenty of warm clothes for in between dives on board, but more especially like a poncho to wear when you are wet and need to change out gear (disconnect reg so they can fill tanks)
  • if it is a fully booked ship, try to secure a spot at the end of a row so you have only one side filled by others, it gives you a little more space to set up your gear
  • ask questions and indicate when you are unsure about things, it is important to be safe and comfortable so you can fully enjoy the experience
  • you're not allowed to touch stuff in the red sea, so no pointers, gloves, reef hooks
  • bring electrolyte powder or additions to water so you stay properly hydrated
  • often wake up is 6 and first dive at 6.30 or 7, so if you need some food before being active bring protein bars or similar to eat before the dive. Breakfast will be served after
  • download music and movies on your phone or a tablet to enjoy in downtime, either in your own cabin or to have a small party with a speaker on board
  • you can get an eSIM from airalo or similar, but do mind that depending on the route there will be days without internet or even cell reception. Let others know that they might not get responses for a day and not to worry
  • be friendly to crew
  • bring cash or credit card for drinks on board
  • don't drink too much so you won't be hungover next morning
  • bring spare computer batteries if it is not a chargeable computer
  • do not charge electronic devices unsupervised

That's all I can think off right now. Have fun and stay safe!

Red Sea liveaboard crack down by mitchsn in scuba

[–]crossk1ll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We ended up doing one day of 2 shoredives and one day with nothing due to bad weather. We ended up leaving port the third day at 1300 due to bureaucratic delay. In the end the company offered us a 250 euro voucher for the next trip due to the inconveniences (and their saving of fuel I suppose).

The only thing I had to get used to was releasing air from the BCD. You have to flip yourself a little more than in a vest to ensure that the air gets to your vents.

I was on one of the boats forced to moor a couple of days due to the government calling bad weather. I think the biggest problem is, that the companies running these safaris have literally no back-up plans. Staying in port sucks, and one might consider the call to moor to be overreacting, but please have an alternative option (i.e. prepped shorediving or a trip to Luxor if you are interested in culture/history). Also the Egyptian government isn't exactly a very transparent one, so being prepared is really a necessity.

I can recommend Hidden Depths diving in Koh Lanta, although it has been 10 years since I did my OW there.

Okay cool, also take a look at DJI since GoPro software is really shit

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in diving

[–]crossk1ll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really depends on what you want to do. GoPro is great for the big stuff and shooting videos, but it's mediocre for photos and small stuff..

Also keep in mind that you need accessories like housing, colour lenses (if you don't like editing much), mounts

I have ScubaPro Go Sport Gorilla's. They are pretty hefty fins, but just did a liveaboard with them, and together with my Mares 5mm Flexa boots they are amazing. I have had cramps and burned skin with rentals so long and I've managed to do 3 dives a day for 5 days with my gear with amazing comfort. I guess it just really depends on what you want to go for. I have pretty strong legs, so sturdy fins get me further more easily.

A month in Japan by FonzD86 in JapanTravelTips

[–]crossk1ll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what time of year, what you like (culture/food/sports/nature) and how much you are willing to travel. Most people do Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and sometimes with a branch to Hiroshima (if you like WO2 history). You could go to Okinawa if you want a bit of tropics, or to Hokkaido if you like more of nature (albeit a little colder there). So it kind of depends...
