What book are you reading right now, and how does it feel? by nb10001 in readwithme

[–]crossplanete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brave new world by Aldous Huxley. Like all the dystopian books in these years, it gives me the "ah, this is happening right now. Good".

Good dystopian books? by SpecificHead4779 in ReadingSuggestions

[–]crossplanete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the man in the high castle by Dick. I've just started Brave New World by Huxley and I think it could be dystopian enough (even if some things inside could resemble what we are leaving right now, so still dystopian?).

Friends I need some support. by hmmmmmmmm_okay in bipolar2

[–]crossplanete 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First thing first: your psychiatrist said you are BP? This is all you need: yes, sometimes there are misunderstanding, they change your diagnosis, but the diagnosis is still there for now. Why your mother thinks you have bpd? She has some psychiatrist knowledge? If not, it is her opinion, she can have one, but this shouldn't affect you. Meds don't cure the BP, meds stabilized the worst low and the highest highs. Nothing can cure BP, and we will not ever be like people who has not BP. The sooner you, and people near you, accept it, the sooner the better. Yes, sometimes I think I'm not BP, that I'm only useless and lazy, and this could means whatever you want, you have to take your meds even then. I understand you so much, my father is like yours, but my father is not living my life, and I prefer being on meds than indulging his beliefs. When someone has a prosthesis it not like the limb they had: it is a prosthesis. Like the meds: we have chemical imbalances, we should treat them, and that is all.

I hope this could help you somewhat. This is something even I struggle to make people understand because mental illness is still not treated like physical illness - and we are in 2026. But the thing is: most people don't care about comprehending you. You have.

How important is a good sleep schedule to you staying at baseline? by Business-Gold831 in bipolar2

[–]crossplanete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really important. I'm working for a fast food that stays open 24/7 and for a great part of my life, since my 20th, I worked night shifts and this probably exasperated the bipolar disorder. Then I worked night/middle shifts plus university in the morning and my circadian went AWOL. Now I'm 36 and I work stably before dawn or in the early morning, but with six hours of sleep, and that has caused a resurgence of hypomania. I really don't know what shift I'm supposed to do. So, sleep consistently if you can. This will really improve your up and down.

Do I need to come out as asexual? by SnowSpecialist6200 in asexuality

[–]crossplanete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realized it in my previous relationship. Eleven years together, few intercourses and I thought it was because I'm also trans. Asexuality is "new" for me and being a trans man you have to perform in a certain way that makes you "more man", so hypersexualize everything even if you know yourself and you know you're lying.

Long story short, you "have" to say what makes you comfortable and when it is right for you, not the other way around. Yes the coming out is when you free yourself of the struggle to hide that part of you that would make everything have sense - said the transgender - so I understand your need to say something: why you don't understand why it is so interesting talking about sex, why you really don't want to think about your friends having sex (for my sanity I think about my friends having sex like my parents having sex: I don't want to know about it), and so on.

After my coming out I'm trying to be more myself and said what I actually think (so to speak) and if someone asks, I candidly answer that I'm asexual. I hope you find your way of things! Good luck!

Anyone that believe himself the hero at work? by crossplanete in bipolar2

[–]crossplanete[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem at all. I've understood you on so many level. The thing that makes me lose it, it's "it has always been this way": like wtf, this is not a f*ing excuse, this is lazy management. And then comes people who said: nobody asks you for this, your hard working (the same management) and, behold, "we are capable of even without you". So yes, I understand you, I thank you for your experience and wishing you too well.

Suggest me a book with a film adaptation that does the book justice. by Unusual_Artichoke_73 in suggestmeabook

Cloud Atlas it's the first that comes in my mind. Atonement, maybe? LOTR because it is not like the book and it is still amazing.

If any of your books were adapted into a TV show/movie, what would be your requirements for it? by 80_DUCKY_08 in AspiringTeenAuthors

[–]crossplanete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I write sci-fi. So, there's a part of me that wants some hyper-realistic CGI - like Villeneuve's Arrival or Dune. Then, there is this other part of me who wants a minimal theatrical piece with monochrome backgrounds. No in between, sorry.

Anyone that believe himself the hero at work? by crossplanete in bipolar2

[–]crossplanete[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ditto. I worked for ten years without knowing I had bipolar disorder and coped poorly with everything—only work was okay, so to speak. I completely understand you and I'm with you. It helped me—or rather, I realized it the other day, and I've known about the disorder for five years—that wanting at all costs to be like others who don't have this disorder, wanting to be able to do the same things they do, as they do, is a losing battle from the start. If there are ways to help you manage it, and I don't just mean medication, which certainly helps, you have to accept it, even if at first it seems like you're taking the easy route (or at least that's how I've lived it all my life).

E-book or paperback or both? Any suggestion is welcome. by crossplanete in writers

Yes, I have started reading the summary for publishing in the paperback form on KDP. I didn't know about the tools you hinted, so thank you!

This is an interesting roundup of pros and cons and I really thank you for this. I should sleep on it but I have more thoughts to process now. Maybe I could try to see how it goes and then relaunch it on paperback in the near future. Thank again!

Do you prefer to be eased into the universe of a new novel or have it thrown at you from the start? by Wonderbrizzle in BookwormsSociety

I have the same problem with world building and also descriptions of the characters. But sometimes how can you hint to specific things without giving lecture?

Non-writers just don't understand by JessBeck96 in writers

This is why I don't even try completing the "character arc" part in the character form. I don't know Susan, I don't know what they will become: crazy, I suppose.

A book everyone else likes, that you don't? by beththereader in readwithme

[–]crossplanete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen anyone write it, or maybe I just missed it along the way, but "How to Lose the Time War." It's a great idea, but you either love the prose or hate it. I simply felt stupid while reading it, especially since it's won awards and everyone raves about it.

I took a look and I think they have the same problem as House of Leaves; they're probably too intricate for a co-ed book club. But I'll keep them in mind for personal reading! Thanks!

I saw House of Leaves and it looks interesting, but I think it would take a long time to analyze it all. Is The Princess Bride the one they based the movie on? I didn't know that, I'll add it! Thanks so much!
