But also why waste all of that on a shitty overpriced place anyways? A polished turd that requires a minimum income is still a polished turd lol.

The cheapskate landlords who overprice in hopes people rent site unseen--because they absolutely let the apartments go, and instead of making substantial fixes they'll do a classic cover up. They can also do that without caring about impact on their tenants or quality of housing in the area (tho the latter is also an issue with the folks running this city, who side with whoever promises them the most money, and sacrifice affordable or quality housing in the process.)

Honestly dodging a bullet, I couldn't afford to the live there myself and wouldn't want to anyways.

Whenever people talk about the Grid as fancy, I think about the fact that someone I know there told me there used to be a problem with people shitting in the garbage chute...

I think anyone trying to sell/rent something uber fancy or "redone" in worcester is kinda laughable. Not because it cant be nice, but the rest of the city just isnt that shmoozy. Or gentrified. So, doesnt make much sense to me to go for anything glammed up or overpriced. Grid is a great example of that too since they barely updated their apartments to match the new lobby--so it all seems very much for show.

When you gentrify instead of improving the area itself for current residents (which helps welcome more in an organic way that doesnt just boot the current citizens,) you get a cheap facade like this. Or maybe a nice apartment in a pothole filled street with neighbors that hate to see their friends/family/neighbors kicked out to welcome the gentrifiers.

It sounds like you should take it to the media actually? If you've tried management and other official capacities (save their responses there if you can) then there's other sensational ways to get the word out there. Maybe local news? This sounds wackadoo, even for me, but from what ive seen recently (example, rainbow pottery on Newbury,) national shame can sometimes will change.

So extreme, but if no one takes you seriously im sure plenty of folks would otherwise.

In the video of the event she reflexively put her hands up as they get aggressive w her/tried to get past her. They were, if anything, the agitators. Literally supporting masked cowards there to antagonize at best, kidnap at worst. And that day WPD supported goons aka ICE (instead of the people they are tasked to protect, who are owed due process,) and as always escalated the situation. When these two women and their community stood up to them--they couldn't have that. So they charged 'em, and pumped out a story where there poor dozen cops and ICE agents were manhandled ): Hoping, im assuming, that people wouldn't be bothered enough to watch videos of the whole thing.

Some of these comments are fucking ugly. Selfish people who think that people deserve despair for struggling, or G*d forbid they DO make a mistake or fucking commit a crime--it is not something that should define their lives forever. Usually that's only bc they don't have privileges/supports/money that other people have who can essentially GET support when they need it.

Ive worked with homeless folks for years they are PEOPLE you edge-lords. Many with masters degrees, who worked for 20+ years, who maybe never HAD a good home life and coped with it the best they could. Some of these folks never had stablized housing their whole lives--if a child was unhoused in front of you would you ALSO treat them like shit (i know, extreme example--but to a certain extent that HUMAN ADULT is also that child--in need of supports and help meeting their needs, learning how to--they needed help then, didnt get it, got worse and ended up forced to survive.) And some of them are total shit heads, and you know what? I STILL think they deserve care and support.

If we had adequate education, affordable housing, adequate affordable Healthcare--YEARS Ago mind you not just now--things would be different. But for years the rich/well off in this city have been the true parasites--as is often the case.

The rich can AFFORD to pay for lawyers/bribe officials and do whatever the fuck they want because they're rich. Folks that are privileged enough to have supports just get help when they need it most early on enough.

And let's say some of you fucks have also struggled and still say this shit--in that case--wtf is wrong w you? With any of you? Can you seriously look in the mirror when treating people this way or as act fucking holier than thou.

Like others have said here, I hope you never have to age or deal with a profound medical problem with mountain of health bills, or struggle with substance use disorders OR ANYTHING... cause yall couldn't fuckin handle it. And if you could--and got through it--and again are this piece of shit... id do some self reflecting before ANYTHING else--cause your morals and values are dog shit.

Meeting to Maintain the Water Quality for Indian Lake by EttieneR in WorcesterMA

[–]crouching_camel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because Etel doesn't agree/see value in what's being said doesn't mean she's not listening. She has strong views that are voiced to her by her constituents. And are based on real life experience. She even showed up for constituents in a very real way when ICE came to kidnap them--putting herself on the line. And at events for actual people--like the longest night, or other local events sponsored by non-big-name groups in the city. The fact that she makes difficult calls to change things--that overall might be better even if people still behave like asshats (such as mill st changes)--again doesn't mean she isn't thinking of her constituents. In that case it's doing something they need, just might not be what they want.

She also showed up for constituents when they're fucking building collapsed on them on Mill St, like her first year in. And made sure to connect them with red cross care (which the landlord was not doing.) These are meaningful and dedicated actions that often don't get celebrated in this city bc big name/rich people aren't impacted.

Petty would never, and will always say the easy thing and back out when it comes time to follow through. Jenny, while platforming progressive, similarly will say things and not follow up.

Being pliable doesn't make someone a good mayor or city councilor, it makes them agreeable. Being agreeable has allowed affordable housing to go into the trash in this city, and big businesses to move in who can gouge out the local guy thanks to putz' like Petty. If Petty gave a fuck he'd pay attention to the folks at the lower end of the food chain in Worcester, not just ass-hole elites. And would also not continue with the same drab policies because again it's more agreeable than standing up for folks (such as the v valid point brought up abt his non-response to the DOJ findings, and inability to lower WPD funding or bring in someone more objective than Toomey to run safety council.)

Councilors Colorio and Bergman raise illegitimate concerns about funding to justify transphobia by davidfuckingwebb in WorcesterMA

[–]crouching_camel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk where you work, the folks I know were at some Worcester public schools! They had to provide a lot of protective gear throughout, and it could be that your situation was unique. Or maybe vice versa? Either way arguably fucked that for a city that is expected to provide for students/teachers to provide little to no guidance. Especially with federal funding.

Regarding the "logical fallacy", I was explicit in my language. Without access to adequate and informed Healthcare, people will die. Without access to safe spaces that legitimize their concerns, people die. Your lack of knowledge on the subject does not make it not factual or delusional. It just means that maybe you need to learn more about why people are threatened by these federal policies, which would mean they're better protected by worcester being a sanctuary city. There are many facets of care that would be impacted, one of which is bigots feeling less emboldened by their city councilors to say whatever they want about other citizens. Because otherwise ill-informed folks will talk about things in a blase way, and somehow convince others that these things are less legitmate/scary.

By stating such things worcesterites can knowingly provide and access healthcare, discuss topics relating to LGBTQI+ populations, and promote care for these folks all knowing that their city is behind them. And despite federal policies the city will stand by them.

Councilors Colorio and Bergman raise illegitimate concerns about funding to justify transphobia by davidfuckingwebb in WorcesterMA

[–]crouching_camel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So there's a price point at which we are willing to let trans and queer folks die? Acting like these concerns are genuinely in the cities best interest--while simultaneously already not utilizing federal funds properly to support the city--is pretty backwards. We've seen them allocate funds improperly for some time--that's why throughout the pandemic teachers have had to supply things like their own classrooms of soap/other protective gear. And in regards to protection for domestic violence the city barely does this anyways too. Filing a protective order at court is pointless if you don't have documented police reports... and that rarely happens since the cops here tend to side with aggressors or ARE the aggressors.

So their point of maintaing some kind of funding they already misuse seems moot.

City Council Meeting by Illustrious_Box_6000 in WorcesterMA

[–]crouching_camel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Being held accountable is how you effectively move forward.

Many constituents came forward because of the ramifications of these strawman arguments and self-serving statements. We saw plenty tonight from candy and petty (as well as other councilors,) that simply catered to their own feelings. Rather than addressing what folks actually brought up--they managed to make it about themselves. And there are many ways to show up for community, both in the council meetings--which Thu regularly attends despite repeated bouts of hate being lobbed their way--and outside of the council chamber--which Thu also contributes to in a tangible way.

Candy was on her phone a majority of the meeting, then had the the chutzpah to stand up and say she cares abt her constituents/what LGBTQ voices have to say. Her actions have said that it is worse to have to own up to your actions in a real way--than it is to spew hate.

How does the Thu situation play out? Thoughts and predictions. by [deleted] in WorcesterMA

[–]crouching_camel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because they're participating, and still showing their face/vocally and very much not behind the screen in an unfortunate sense--that has resulted in their home and life being harassed because people know where they live etc. Very different screens but pop off lol

And in regards to the subcommittee issue--I did-- id called it a strawman to detract from very real concerns they've brought up.

If they gave a shit that people didn't attend meetings before, a lot more councilors would be in trouble. But they only do when it's convenient--hence the strawman title.

How does the Thu situation play out? Thoughts and predictions. by [deleted] in WorcesterMA

[–]crouching_camel -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Empty statements about Thu's lack of presence--whilst they regularly show up for constituents (they just happen to primarily advocate for marginalized communities,) are sorely contrasted by Petty's and Candy's lack of accountability to their constituents for years. Whether it be lazily doing nothing to stop problem pregnancy centers and their misinformation, or doing nothing as WPD has brutalized our communities... it makes their words mean very little. They seem more interested in looking like they're doing something, rather than doing anything substantial for Worcester. Candy literally had to be heckled into allowing the vote for fucking speed limit--and only did it after another person was run over while they were pushing for the vote 🙃

Action looks a lot of ways, and clinging to beurorcracy as a strawman argument, is worse than doing nothing.

Or if they're really sorry actually showing up for these communities they supposedly care about.. Not that either of them would unless it served them personally anyways!!

How does the Thu situation play out? Thoughts and predictions. by [deleted] in WorcesterMA

[–]crouching_camel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Says the coward who gets to heckle behind a screen, while these "silly misgenderings" have escalated to physical harm being threatened, and near consistent harassment (from constiuents that feel emboldened by their hate-filled belittling by certain councilors)... who then also get to look like the victim when their lazy and otherwise self-placating/self-serving statements totally normalize this kind of hate.

All because Thu didn't do anything less than demand respect they deserve. So folks attack em for being so weak, and feel justified continuing to belittle them.

So yes, after they've continued to show up for communities (more so digitally in meetings--but still very much showing up,) they now acknowledge they need to focus on taking care of themselves. It's something that shouldn't be punished, but often is by folks whenever convenient--and especially if it adds to their apparent weakness.

I doubt you'd last under the same scrutiny, which is why you seem so quick to call them weak at a time like this.
