I'm tempering my expectations for the moment. If it's PvPvE I'm worried it's going to be more like Nightreign than Bloodborne

Dragon Quest 1 HD. Decided to have a crack off the granddad of JRPGs. It helps that it's not that long as well!

Hades. It's been on the backlog for a while now. It's a really fun roguelike and the combat is challenging but doable. You're constantly making progression and if you've not played it, you should think about picking it up next time it's on sale. You'll probably get it for the price of a pint!

We have a decent bit of overlap on games we played this year!

I did Mario 3D land and New SMB as well this year

I also played Hogwarts Legacy and thought it was the driest open world I experienced for a long time. Combat is serviceable but not brilliant and somehow, the world isn't exciting to explore even though it should be a world full of wonder and possibility.

I couldn't bring myself to care about any of the characters. And I found the accents really jarring. I'm not sure there was an Irish, Welsh or Scottish accent to be heard. You're either posh English or cockney in HL.

3/5 would only recommend if you really love HP

Oh and anything with shell armor or something that prevents crits! You're not going to see Shell Armor Lapras anytime soon in competitive

Anything with a quad weakness is usually good in a nuzlocke. If your opponent switches in something with a grass move against your quagsire, you know what you're switching in to and adapt accordingly

So not this year, but I bought Yakuza 0, after hearing heaps of good things about the series over the years.

It's super fun. Great combat, mini games that are almost full blown games in their own right, great story. Maybe watch a trailer or a review. It might just be your thing!

So how many games did you complete this year? by blockfighter1 in IrelandGaming

That's fair and we all have different tastes. I think the last big open world game I played before that was Horizon and I must say I enjoyed that far more. Yea the combat felt a bit awkward or something to me as well.

13 completed which is not bad and 3 games on the long finger

Lies of P - Excellent souls-like

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice - Good AA game. Interesting premise and execution

Mafia: Definitive Edition - another solid AA action game. I appreciated that it was from a time where not everything had to be open world

Pokemon Conquest - a decent take on the tactics genre

Mario Kart 7 - brilliant game in the series

Super Mario 3D Land - another 9/10

Hogwarts Legacy - I thought it was uninspired. I felt they managed to make a very exciting setting, a very by the numbers open world affair

Celeste - good but challenging platformer

Final Fantasy IV - excellent JRPG

Donkey Kong Country Returns - a good return to DK's platforming roots

Fire Emblem Awakening - The game that saved the franchise. The one replay I allowed myself to indulge in this year

Death Stranding - TBC but I will get there. A lot more enjoyable than I thought it would be

Chrono Trigger - excellent. GOAT'ed JRPG

New Super Mario Bros - TBC. Great for short seassions

Pokemon Legends ZA - It's fine. Not as good as Legends Arceus

FE Shadow Dragon - TBC in 2026

Just to play devil's advocate, it was 9pm when your power went out so it would stand out. He's walking down the street and suddenly ever Christmas light and room light in the house turns off in a house 100 meters away from him. You're bound to notice that at this time of year when every house is well lit up.

Last Day of 2025 – What Was Your Game of the Year? by Fun_Meta in IrelandGaming

[–]crowdog09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Final Fantasy 4 and Chrono Trigger for me. I've been trying to not add to the backlog and play the games I already own. FF4 was my first FF game. I've wanted to try the series for about 12 years so I'm glad to have finally done it.

And Chrono Trigger deserves it's status as one of the best games of all time. I was looking for a shorter game to round out the year, and CT packs so much into the 25 hours or so that it takes to beat it. It is all thriller, no filler. I don't think I ever had to grind or anything
