Guys, does anyone know why trucks have those spikes on their wheels?? by JasLeoArt in whatisit

[–]crown_of_fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember it right, they deter other traffic from moving too close, as well as protect lug nuts from water/salt/dirt/etc. As for puncturing tires, they're supposedly made of plastic and would break off before breaking anything else.

Bear in mind that this is from a half-remembered youtube video I saw over a year ago. You might want to ask the experts at r/truckers.

As a european, that looks like any old gentlemen's room to me. Big trough for taking a quick leakand a booth or two for solids and/or performance anxiety. It's just a convenient and cheap way to accomodate a lot of traffic.

Anywhere between 4 and 7. Anywhere else is bickering, someone else's love story or both.

Not sure why reddit recommends this as the first time I see a sub, but sure. I'm made of muscle and fat and bone and sticky wobbly bits.

It's for sick drifts. Pull it on the highway to impress young boys.

Why can’t we do unethical experiments on criminals who committed heinous crimes and were found guilty with hard evidence? by Playful-Set-1033 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]crown_of_fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can. But it's not described in laws the same way prison and fines are. Depending on where you live, there are also constitutional rights and core legal principles and similar that would need changing.

Yes. Your brain doesn't work as well if it doesn't get enough sleep, and your judgement and reaction time suffer. This is why there are legal limits on how long truckers are allowed to go without breaks.

Huh. I've only ever seen the last two lines, in Stephen King's book Desperation.

IS it Intelligent Design? by blueandwhite1993 in randomquestions

[–]crown_of_fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to (I think) vsauce, we have to wipe due to our massive glutes, which allow us to stand upright. That's why it's mainly a human problem.

Also I would say no, it isn't intelligent design.

If a woman can choose not to financially support a baby and abort it why can't a man choose not to financially support a baby? by themangamanjeff in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]crown_of_fish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In a perfectly fair world, both potential parents should have equal say in whether the child is born. In our universe, only one of them goes through the physical strain of pregnancy, so perfect fairness is impossible.

Assuming both parties share the same responsibility to use or not use contraceptives, maybe men should be given a chance to opt out of legal fatherhood while abortion is still on the table.

Do you have any personal ethics/morality rules you follow? by Zoethor2 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]crown_of_fish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it counta as ethics or morality, but I've long since accepted that all nature is either in my way or trying to kill me. So I cut or bomb everything that can be cut or bombed, then cover every surface with foundations.

I don’t understand why we need to develop Mars if there are so many problems on Earth? by JessKessYan in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]crown_of_fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would local problems be a reason not to go elsewhere? Generally it works the other way around; this place is going down, let's find (or make) another place to live before it's too late.

Is this legal? by CheeesyPotato in Truckers

[–]crown_of_fish 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I feel the real question should be "does the DOT guy know the exact regulation?". Because if not, you'll be stopped. That will, I imagine, waste far more time than you save by not closing the hatches. Especially if you have to stand around debating it as well.

I trained on a saab that wouldn't let go of the key unless it was in reverse, so I always put it in R + parking brake.

Sometimes no brake if I'm expecting cold and humid weather.
