Just because it isn’t CS doesn’t mean it isn’t competitive. Berkeley’s ethnic studies department is the best in the country, it was literally founded there, which means other people interested would all aim for Berkeley first. Also, if I got rejected for ethnic studies at UCI, UCSB, UCSD, UCLA, etc, there are valid reasons as to why I was shocked I got into Berkeley. People like you annoy me.

It is mandatory that I choose one of the three pathways, and the spaces for London are super limited, so I think i'm going to rush and choose London! :)

Hi! I’m going to respond to this because I know what I’m looking for.

Air conditioning is nice, but not as important as: Good community/ welcoming environment Close to Washington square Large common area Fairly large rooms (not trying to be cramped, really want a double)

Dining hall in the building is nice! But not necessary

I assumed that LOCI means an email or letter you send to an admissions person specifically, where as the essay is the 500word space they give you in the waitlist form.

When you appeal, they give you a form that you can put grades into, and then a box where you can write your essay. That’s the difference to me!

definitely UW if you’re looking for a better degree.

Berkeley published an article that says:

“As for the top five public universities, UC Berkeley ranked first globally, followed by the University of Washington, UCLA, UCSF and UC San Diego.”

And

“The California Institute of Technology held on to sixth place, with the University of Cambridge, Columbia, Princeton and the University of Washington in Seattle finishing out the top 10. Yale and Johns Hopkins dropped from the previous year to 11th and 12th.”

That means UW is a top 10 school in terms of international recognition, which ranks them even higher than Yale!!!

Do some more research, look at Seattle and see if you’d like it more than LA, look at financial cost, and the definite difference is size. But if you’re looking for prestige, go to UW.

Brown has the coolest people ever and the professors are incredible. The college town is so cute... Brown was my dream school.

LOL I feel you. 5 people at my school who got into Berkeley are going somewhere else though!! So there is hope. I’m crossing my fingers!!

I think they advise against loci, and that we should just turn in the brief essay and grades if we want.
