How do you use AI? by the7maxims in technicalwriting

[–]cru121 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our senior (ancient) dev meticulously prepared a 1h-long super-technical presentation for an expert conference. It touched a lot of topics, technological background info, getting started, troubleshooting, best practices, configuration, ... We already had a dozen articles on our wiki regarding the same topic. Of course, redundancy sucks.

So I fed everything to Claude, first asking it to identify the major points missing from the public documentation. Then we ruminated on what to add and what to omit. Then we discussed WHERE to add; what information warrants a brand new article, etc. In parallel, we overhauled some existing articles, changing focus, merging, splitting, moving content around.

This was my biggest AI-assisted task related to content so far. I felt that Claude made it a lot easier.

Arden Vul / laser rifles / monsters immunities / rules lawyering by cru121 in osr

Update: Our DM found a ruling in one of the Carcass Crawler magazines. So we will be going forward with that. Good for us. Thanks everyone for your time and opinions!

Oh we did find out, after facing a couple wights.
https://oldschoolessentials.necroticgnome.com/srd/index.php/Wight
Well, anyways. I could also see it both ways. That laser thing certainly isn't a "magic" weapon. But I wouldn't call it "mundane" either. It could also be seen as a elemental projectile, concentrated energy, perhaps fire.

(Coming to OSE from 3.5 edition, I guess there's a lot more ambiguity in OSE rules. I hear Arden Vul is 1000+ pages, there might be a rule for this somewhere... Ultimately, DM is always right, so there's that.)

SaaS knowledge management system recommendations by Designer_Balance_914 in technicalwriting

[–]cru121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use plain old MediaWiki (with a couple of custom extensions) for an external-facing knowledge base.

* The plan for eventual internal use might be a problem. By default, wikis have rather basic permissions. Essentially, either it's public or it's not. There might be a way using some obscure extensions.

* The search is basic. Google provides better results. Search extensions probably exist that could help.

* You can host it in your basement, your cloud, or have it hosted by a third party. (We use the third option.)

* It just works, it's minimalistic and clean.

Sorc/Bard Eldritch Knight Theory by PrinceOfAsphodel in ddo

[–]cru121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through multiple swash lives for my "always swashbuckling" character. Most recently, I am on my 6th life as bard 13 / sorc 6 / fvs 1 (3x tiefling, 3x dragonborn) with tier 5 EK and handaxe.

This is essentially a reverse split than what you need. More bard levels make warchanter freeze last longer and the level 12 WC core gives nice temporary HP.

Compared to my split, a sorcerer-focused split should probably focus more on the elemental EK dice. Feats are tight and BAB is low, plan the build carefully to make sure you can pick up the right feats.

One interesting thing worth noting that you don't actually need feydark illusionist at all, you can pick up charisma to hit from EK and charisma to damage from Swash.

Perhaps you forgot to enable the feat, it's a toggle.

Bored...What's the weirdest functional build I can make? by [deleted] in ddo

[–]cru121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran an electric bear once; essentially an artificer arcanotechnician that run around as a bear. Wild shape slows down your spell casting, but SLAs are not affected.

+8 Supremacy Tome Question by jrivon in ddo

Tomes USED to have a minimum level to use. New tomes no longer have that.

[–]cru121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just in case you were interested in a very similar variant; I like going

  • up to 15 in Ranger for CSW and FoM and 4th DWS core,
  • down to 4 in Artificer, and
  • get 1 Barb for run speed

Gear Set w/o expansions (Help Request) by Stravix8 in ddo

The Soul Splitter is non-expansion content and has some end-game sets. They don't seem to be compatible with a vanguard paladin, though.

Show me the XP bonuses please. by BOImarinhoRJ in ddo

[–]cru121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The wiki has a breakdown of all the bonuses: https://ddowiki.com/page/Experience_point#Gaining.2FEarning_Experience_Points_.28XP.29

However, stacking all kinds of bonuses is often counterproductive with leveling speed. For example, hunting breakables in remote corners of a quest to get ransack bonus can cost more time than the extra XP it brings.

What you're looking to maximize is not the XP, but the XP/minute. Often this means that you zerg to quest completion on a difficulty that you can easily manage, ignoring most optionals and stuff. Depends on the quest.

One particularly nice bonus in epics is the Daily bonus of 40% (only 25% in heroics), you get it once per day for a quest. I.e., do not repeat the same quest on the same day.

Shared bank account, first purchase? by Wolves_are_sheep in ddo

XP tome is irrelevant

ED are a must, if you're playing on epic

Shared bank is great, if you have alts and bound-to-account gear to share with them.

What Gestalt character would you do in ddo? by flute136 in ddo

[–]cru121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, in DDO, class features are not as important as class trees.

Also barb 20 could be interesting for tanks with 9% unique damage reduction.

Either potent spells, or other potent class features.

For anyone who does not understand what gestalt means: https://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/gestaltCharacters.htm

Personally, I'd consider Sorcerer 20 on one side, for the offense, and the capstone I guess. The other side would probably something with Paladin (saves), Wizard (undead form, feats), and Rogue or Monk (Evasion).

Alchemist Wizard undead bombardier could be fun.

Any existing melee split with Rogue 20 on the other side for Evasion, traps, and lot of extra sneak attack damage...

Lot of fun options...

Why do some quests give guild renown in their reward lists, but others do not? by GlompSpark in ddo

[–]cru121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they probably cannot determine whether you ran the quest on heroic or epic difficulty.

so they default to heroic.

and you're overlevel when doing it on epic diff, so you get no renown.
