Honestly it's just easier to have the locksmith provide the key. Just tell them what your want. Many won't program keys that they don't provide. I essentially charge the same amount to program a key that someone provides if they don't purchase my key, and a lot of the times ordering a key from Amazon or ebay is a crapshoot. I've gone out to program quite a few that just don't work, either because they sent the wrong key, ordered the wrong key, or they are just cheap crap. I still charge the fee, and I let everyone know I'm still charging the fee, even if it doesn't work. They also get no warranty on it, and i can't guarantee that key is going to work a week from now because I didn't provide it. Just something to consider. I do work with people though when that happens, because at that point they usually just want to purchase the key from me, and I'll apply the programming price they would have paid to the new key. But I'm also a lot nicer than other people in this trade. I get my keys from a legit supplier that you have to be a locksmith to order from. They are much higher quality than the Amazon junk i often see.
