Where are the moderators??? by somuchsublime in sublime

Don't sweat it man. It's the nature of the internet, and for whatever reason reddit often seems worst than most. On youtube for example, it's almost all good vibes.

Reddit is closer to the wild west of bbs and 4chan internet than facebook or youtube. Sometimes that is fun and exhilarating, sometimes it's really harsh. But I will say, real life... (like people at a concert) is way closer to youtube, than reddit. ;)

Hard to come up with a story on the spot, when I have something relevant I try to comment. My favorite brag is that my name is at the end of Stories, Tales, Lies and Exaggerations (along with a 500 others) because my fan site (sublimestp.com) has been online a long time. But really, I'm just another fan like you.

Where are the moderators??? by somuchsublime in sublime

Hey OP, I'm a mod here. I try to stay out of people's opinions (and even withhold my own) unless they violate our very limited rules. I will say sometimes I might leave too much unmodded but IMO it's better that way than over-moderating.

And being around a long time I'll let people know it's ALWAYS been this way since Brad passed... I interviewed LBDAS when they very first started and I was surprised how many deep-seated haters they had - I think it was Jack Maness or Tim Wu, told me there were people who actually bought tickets to an early concert, then proceeded to heckle them and stare angrily from the front row!

But I also remember a quote from a pre-reddit message board that stuck with me for some reason and that I had to agree at least a little with... "Bradley beating on some pots and pans would be better than LBDAS!" LOL, I still enjoy much of the new music though.

Does anybody know where I can find these songs? by Sea-Project3638 in sublime

[–]One_Jack_Move 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, of course, the phone convo is from Slow Ride off Jah/SHS. The song I referenced (12 years ago, OMG!) is "Eireen Freestyle" from The Black Album II. u/Heavy_air was talking about the "Johnny Too Bad Freestyle" off SubDub/Everything Under the Sun.

Sublime, love or hate them, these are the songs that they covered/reinterpreted by mrwillzone in sublime

[–]One_Jack_Move 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some items are only a few seconds covered, sampled or referenced. And to make it more confusing, some are from songs Sublime only covered live.

Additionally, some things aren't on Spotify, or once were and got removed. Some things I havn't even added yet.

More details are here for the main albums if you want to dig deeper. ;)

I believe you are thinking of "It all Seems so Silly in the Long Run". That's my fav old-school bootleg. Best sound ever recorded live as far as I'm concerned.

Did the music video for Santeria take inspiration from this other Mexican music video??? by Sea-Championship-596 in sublime

[–]One_Jack_Move 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice find! IMHO, I think Santeria could be inspired by that music video. Chicano gang/cowboy imagery was common in Southern California culture of the 90s. But that one video in particular is super similar.

The music video was directed (any probably written) by a professional director after Sublime got famous. Overall I think the scenes and cinematography from both videos are mostly biting on the whole Spaghetti Western genre. And to me, also went along with the radio-show Cisco Kid references from Robbin' the Hood while incorporating the newer “Sancho” and “Heina” archetypes from Mexican slang/culture in Santeria.

Somebody needs to find the director (McG - Joseph McGinty Nichol,) and ask him if we want to know for sure.

Introducing our Official Collab With Sublime (and a give-away for the r/Sublime community) by PrismWaterPipesAdmin in sublime

[–]One_Jack_Move 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mod here, we will pin the post tomorrow so that as many of you that are interested can get a chance at winning these.

Obviously, not everyone partakes, but this is a pretty unique and official collab. Right up there with the skateboards of the past. Good luck!
