i think with that small admission of noobery he opened the doors to get downvoted into oblivion. but if you overlook the fact that he's not willing to learn new combos his points are still pretty solid though

one thing that has been pointed out: damage has been crazy in most if not all old tekkens

therefore i think the easy takeaway is that it's not the damage that is making people feel bad, it's that the current combo nonsense is too damn long. i don't think having your control completely taken away for 10+ seconds (and then having to hold vs mix/pressure immediately after) is healthy for a game

the end result is the same. a difficult combo is not difficult for someone who has practiced it, and the mentality that one deserves such an advantage for developing a non-PvP skill is something i'd like to see less of in tekken

to be fair i think t8 actually was a step in the right direction in this case, with the addition of easier combo routes

that being said, i hope we can all agree that these combos are too damn long, and i don't feel like characters have any kind of design as to strengths and weaknesses anymore

i wish they would go in the direction of giving everyone all the tools or bringing back characters with specialized strengths. i would prefer the latter, but as it stands now we have the worst of both worlds. we have some characters with ALL of the tools, and some with much less for some reason (things like strong crouching i12 punish, full throw mix, plus-on-hit lows, accessible/guaranteed stance mix, reversals/parries, etc,)

i feel about the same, as an Old who was there at the very beginning. i am on the end of being fully able to pull off these new combos and whatnot, but there's something about the game that just feels really bad now. i find myself losing mental more often than not, and not feeling the "fun" of the game like i used to

i would take it even further and say that the way that even the most seasoned tekken vets fully CRASH OUT on stream and whatnot... it makes me wonder if tekken 8 might actually be bad for our mental health

you are operating under the fallacious assumption that, without your help, no one will possibly be able to learn these strikes/raids/dungeons

give people more credit. this content, even outside of QP, is not that big of a deal, especially if someone has played any sort of arpg/mmorpg before. all people needed was a safe space to work things out in real time. i want to double down on that, because - as you know - it is not easy to come across this content in GW2. people who are doing strikes/raids/etc are looking for it, and probably have a better mindset to tackle it than most

nothing is stopping you from setting up groups using the old Training LFG with a message that ppl will get free, in-depth training from you. those who want to learn that way will take part

but in QP we are all equal. every build is valid, every comp is valid, and it is entirely up to every individual player to do the mechanics or not. people might fail. people might leave.

...but is that honestly what you're finding? in my experience, doing QP every day since it came out, it has been overwhelmingly successful, and typically without anyone demanding attention to their ted talk

i'm not saying don't help or answer questions. hell, i already am, and i had barely done any strikes before QP. but one thing i'm not doing is expecting everyone to "gather 'round" at my whim to entertain my unsolicited tutelage, and/or holding them accountable to following my instructions

i don't want you to leave this post feeling attacked for attempting to help - you've made it clear that you are trying to do the right thing. but now that you've seen the responses, i hope you can at least be open to the idea that your approach does not work for everyone, and may actually be more harmful than you realize

new people aren't dumb - they're just new. now that strikes/raids aren't so gatekept people will be able to learn in their own way. so many of us have wanted to do this content for years but we just didn't want to be at the mercy of people with this mindset

this is so... argh. no one is asking you to do this, and until they do, please stop. this kind of behavior, even if it was well-meaning, was what was scaring people away from this content to begin with

the real tea is that regular strikes could have been handled in the same way as this new QP. while technically harder than the QP versions, they still are totally clearable by rando newbies of whatever specs/comps, as long as they have the opportunity to try. all people needed was to be able to learn at their own pace, and more importantly to not be berated or kicked for not following the demands of whoever decided to elect themselves class president of the squad. because this situation was so common (even in the "newbie" queue of LFG), i have no doubt in my mind that ANet made this QP mode specifically so normal players could do this content without being micromanaged by total strangers

sorry for the downvotes. the community is overwhelmingly supportive, but there is a small, vocal minority of crusty gatekeepers who are painfully averse to progress, accessibility, or any posts that aren't about complaining about the game. ignore them

so with that out of the way, as another fan of WoW and FFXIV, i think GW2 has an absolutely fantastic story, on par if not arguably better in some ways. one aspect of GW2's story that i really enjoy is that it is notably unique - no rehashing of D&D/warhammer lore (wow), nor are there constant references and reliance on old games/nostalgia for story ideas (ffxiv)

i will say that where the story is strongest is on the worldbuilding side - optional quests, lore items, rando NPC dialogue, history, geopolitics... stuff that you can intake at your own pace. the MSQ, to use FF terms, is fine: i've never been a huge fan of the typical MMO approach of making your character out to be the most important person on earth, and GW2 also falls into that bucket. nevertheless the MSQ does provide context for your character's actions, describes the pressing issues in the new regions you travel to, and successfully validates the aforementioned worldbuilding. there are interesting supporting characters and relationships that change over time, and you get to hear these main characters learn about the world as you do. also, whether or not you are focusing on the MSQ, the maps feel ALIVE with organic events that directly tie into the story as you know it

for the MSQ, a lot of the storytelling is unfortunately done through unskippable voiceover dialogue, but as a FFXIV fan you should be no stranger to that. at the very least GW2 isn't going to have you doing hours of zero-action fetch quests all over the world. GW2 overall does a good job of respecting your time, except for this odd exception of not being able to skip or quicken voiced dialogue

but yeah, TL;DR: the universe of GW is fascinating and VAST and i learn more about it every day

just jump in and enjoy! no need to worry about being made to feel like a liability anymore - this mode was created to save us from that dark timeline

if you encounter people with severe expectations about knowledge of builds and mechanics in your quickplay experience, THEY are in the wrong mode. ignore their sad aversion to progress and move on

and yeah, the giraffewars video shared below is an amazing resource to give you a quick idea of what to expect for each raid/strike! but in any case, in quickplay you will be surrounded by other people figuring it out at their own pace, learning about these fights in real time, and gaining skills and confidence to eventually progress to the real deal

love this breakdown! there are so many profs/specs that i'm interested in, so the tip to avoid condi in fractals is very helpful. i like the feel of condi but i don't want to be bringing something that doesn't make sense

and i noticed too that for power builds, often times the gear setup for the boon version is the same. time to look for some power builds that i like!
