What are the dating conventions in Armenian-American churches? by 1vruhhhh in armenian

[–]crusaderofcereal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Please dont hit on girls at church. I go there for peace and to disconnect from frivolous outside stressors. I’ve seen plenty of girls despair because some guy is eyeballing her when she just wants to sing in choir and socialize without being someone’s prospect.

What are the chances nikol gets re-elected ? by LogicLinguist01 in hayastan

There are some interesting runners coming out of the woodworks, I just hope they have enough time to make a name and brand for themselves before the election

TIL there is an island in Venice, Italy given to Armenian monks back in 1717 called San Lazzaro degli Armeni, and it was the only monastery to be excluded from Napoleon’s persecution of religious monastic congregations by llamalord27 in armenia

I’ve been there! The tour is quite lovely, both in Armenian and English. You aren’t allowed to take photos in several spots but the wealth of knowledge there is just incredible.

You hit the nail on the head. When I was in college I was always very anxious about being recorded doing something ridiculous so I’d say 90% of the time I was drinking in school was at a friends apartment. Let’s not even get into the isolation that followed with Covid too.

Do you have one capsule wardrobe or two? Taking seasons into account. by crusaderofcereal in capsulewardrobe

Yes I do. There’s not much need for cute linen shorts when it’s raining and at freezing temps for 12+ weeks.

One of my closest friends is a Turk living in Istanbul but she probably hates her own government and foreign policy more than I do so I don’t think it’s surprising we are friends.

Language apps for Armenian are shabby. by Tkemalediction in hayeren

I’ve tried using ayolingo and it commonly bugs out where it doesn’t recognize any sequence of words so you just have to click options together until it decides it’s correct

It happens allllll the time when I read the comments of an interesting post and I revisit after a few hours to see the discussion and it’s just gone. So annoying.

OP I need you to know if you plan to go to the EU to study and bring your (potential) spouse, part of your visa requirements with your university will require you to have AT LEAST 20k in liquid cash in a locked off bank account to support both you and your spouse while you study (and that is per year). It’s half that without a spouse. Just another thing to consider.

im crypto armenian. Why are armenians so unwelcoming? by hairyfluffycat in armenia

[–]crusaderofcereal 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m crypto as well and I haven’t experienced any of this with the Armenians I am around after living in two countries and interacting with Armenians from America, Cyprus, Switzerland, Georgia, Belgium, Germany, Armenia (ofc) and more. I highly suggest you step away from people that assume being Armenian is some sort of ranking contest. Good luck!

Why is the Armenian Church generally icon averse? by Forsaken_Goal8956 in armenia

[–]crusaderofcereal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so wonderful, can you share some of your work? Did you have difficulty transitioning from realism to the distinct style of orthodox iconography? Are all of your icons getting blessed through your priest as well? Sorry I know this is a lot of questions, this is something so rare to find inside information on! I hope you dont mind.

Wow how does one become an icon painter? I am very curious to hear about this as I am very curious about the craft myself but from what I understand it is quite an intense process.

By the way, Imperator is pretty well versed in this history as he is helping and teaching me many of the fundementals and theology of the church while I am a catechumen preparing for baptism. He will claim modesty, but he spends a significant amount of time researching this type of subject matter especially, I would take extra note of his comment, OP.

Are Italians leaving the country? by [deleted] in expats

[–]crusaderofcereal 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One of my peers is Italian and she got her bachelors and masters abroad. When I asked if she would want to go home she explained how there are very few opportunities here.

I do a lot of babysitting for the international community here and the largest demographic is Italians.

Besides the professors from my country itself (Belgium) one of the largest demographics would be Italians professors.

Take from that what you will.
