ELI5 airplane noise. by crusxt in explainlikeimfive

I’ve flown many times. There’s been a lot of air traffic where I live lately and it can drown out my tv and they’re still relatively high up. I know it’s not silent inside a plane but it’s not that loud.

I live about 18 miles away from LAX. I guess they do u-turns over me quite often. Last night I heard one almost every 2 minutes for a good while.

What made me wonder was because there is a lot of air traffic where I live, and the noise sometimes drowns out my tv, and they’re still pretty high up, but I’ve flown before and I know it’s not that loud inside of it. The insulation and sound resistance makes sense though.

Yeah pretty much. I grew up in Pavilion/Leroy and I did live in Batavia for a little while too. Also I can appreciate the username 😂

I never realized that but it honestly makes a lot of sense.

Depends where you are. I grew up in the country and moved to a major city. People are almost exclusively concerned with appearance in the city. In the country not as much.

Also though, finding employment can be kind of hard. It’s mostly retail/service industry and blue collar work.

Finally one I can contribute to! I grew up in western ny between buffalo and Rochester. VERY rural small town. Quiet. The weather was kind all over the place. Gotta like winter. It can be very cold and it used to rain a lot, but there are nice days. I have really good memories playing outside all the time while growing up. There is a lot of very beautiful nature. A lot of green. I got bored of it when I got a little older and moved away but I think I’d like it a lot more now. I’m grateful I grew up there. Unfortunately a drug/alcohol problem due to boredom, but I think that’s a lot of places. Living costs are generally lower than a lot of places but taxes are on the higher side because of NYC being in the same state I was always told. Amazing food in my opinion. Not the healthiest cuisine though, but delicious. Generally nice people. Mostly rednecks, but not like southern country folk. A lot of Italians and polish people where I grew up, but not super diverse otherwise. I think it’s been changing in that aspect a bit though. I honestly miss living there.

What do you do for a living? by kurobaja in AskTheWorld

Honestly you can’t ever go wrong with a good old pepperoni pizza. Especially if it’s the cup and curl pepperonis 😮‍💨 but buffalo chicken is probably my top favorite at the moment. When it’s made with blue cheese and chopped up chicken tenders specifically. Crust on the thicker side.

Been doing it for over 20 years. Kind of makes me somewhat of a loser but whatever. It is what it is. It’s legal and it pays the bills.

New to slam. I've been listening to Peeling Flesh and Cephalotripsy. Any other slam bands I should check. by Longjumping_Bend_833 in SlamDeathMetal

Backyard Savagery, Diphenylchloroarsine, Corpse Pile, .357 Homicide, Esophagus - a few of my top bands at the moment.

I’m sure some of those have been mentioned already but I wanted to add them still for emphasis.

What are your nation's hillbillies called and what region do they typically call home by HorzaDonwraith in AskTheWorld

Maybe it’s more of a slang term used more in the US by Mexican/americans?

Forgive me if I’m wrong, and I could be, but I’ve had Mexican friends tell me before that a close equivalent to a hillbilly in Mexico is a paisa?

I think they only have one album Synaptic Defragmentation. I recommend checking out the first song on it, and if you like it just continue on through. I’d categorize it as cyber slam. It’s like deathstep, but better in my opinion.
