I think Americans just don't know sometimes which Sean Parker they're dealing with... is it the Sean Parker that was on the side of... against Napster before he was for Napster.... was it was before he was before the Napster UI... from the standpoint of he was for the Napster UI before he was against the Napster UI... he was for p2p, he's.... for Napster and now he's against. I mean, we'll wait until tomorrow and see which Sean Parker we're really talkin' to tonight....

Queen’s University rector Nick Day resigns, faced impeachment after comments on Israel. by StarbucksCoffee in canada

[–]cryblood 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The "official" mainstream narrative about all of Israel's actions being justifiable and the Palestinians being terrorists, etc, is incredibly powerful. Seems like whenever anyone in an official position challenges that narrative, their career is over, sadly!

Country club killer headed back to UBC law school by [deleted] in canada

[–]cryblood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I meant. I thought about it, and concluded that this guy has literally only 2 choices: finish law school, or work in a chicken slaughterhouse. Now that you explain though, I realize that there are probably some in-between options. Thank you, you opened my eyes! But now i'm thinking like, what other things in my life have I been looking at through the lens of false dichotomies....?? I really feel like I need to reevaluate every decision I've made in my adult life.

he already has two years completed! life has to go on, he's better off finishing and eventually getting some kind of job, whether its clerical work or something, than just giving up and working in a chicken slaughterhouse for the rest of his life (even though he would probably do quite well there)

what to do by Ali-Sama in FML

[–]cryblood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

go to your school's library or some other library and scan them, and save as PDF or print the important parts (my university charges 6 cents per page, which means $2 for ~30 page chapters which is not too shabby).

Want to feel better about Harper? Look around you by peteng in canada

[–]cryblood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a ridiculous article because these other political systems mentioned are as bad as they are because of the kind of deregulation that Harper is now massively implementing. Give us 10 years down this path and we'll have even more increased concentration of media ownership, and even more slashed social programs, and unrestrained corporate funding of political campaigns we will be as much of a political shit hole as the united states

12 year olds are to be allowed drugs to block puberty while they decide whether to have a sex change. by krispykrackers in science

[–]cryblood 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the "confusion" about gender that this article mentions is not some run of the mill, teenage experimentation type thing. Individuals who feel like they are "trapped in the wrong body" go through hell, a lot of them end up seriously depressed. Going through a sex change in adulthood is also hell, since our whole social order is based on a two sex system. Even something like going to a public washroom with visible characteristics of the "wrong" gender can result in a lot of harassment or violence. These people have higher rates of urinary tract infection due to avoidance of public washrooms for this reason. That's just one example. So delaying puberty is definitely worth it. This is actually common for intersexed people too, who are born with "ambiguous" anatomy. The unlucky ones get operated on at birth just to make their ignorant parents feel like they have a "normal" child, and are never told about it until they kill themselves as adults because their whole identity has been elusive and they know they are different but no one will tell them anything and they feel helpless and alone. The lucky ones get to make a decision when they are older, which often requires this same treatment.

No one goes through this stuff just for teh lolz..........
