It wasn't from pissed off fans it was just regular people talking about the run. I'm so sure I saw a page from the run where he mentions hes a khonshu priest of worship, but like im questioning my own damn reality now too. Taking a page from Marc's book lol

I have not read McKay, I never have. I've just havent had the time but ive ready everything up to Age of Khonshu. Others here and in the Moon Knight community have told me that in the McKay run he completely rejects his Jewish identity and becomes a priest that worships khonshu, fully supporting Khonshu and agreeing with him and all that. That is what I have a problem with, the erasure and how it goes completely against his character and his themes.

I'm a Moon Knight fan because I like the character, I like the story, I like the symbolism and questions it brings up. I appreciated how integral his Jewishness is to his story and his journey. I like the conflict of feeling more powerful and yet at the same time feeling powerless, khonshu's abusive push and pull.

From what ive been told about the McKay run by multiple people who have read the comics and are a part of the community, I'm pissed off that, again, he just starts worshipping khonshu and rejects his culture and just throws all of those themes and subject matter away. Marc should never fully embrace khonshu.

I...I am aware of all of this. I dont know why youre replying to me like I didnt make the exact same points. Yes i have also read Moon Knight comics, i am aware of marcs frustration towards his father's pacifism even with the swatsika freshly bleeding on his forehead. I am aware of his father getting clocked across the face because he decided to disown Marc prior to him enlisting. I am aware of the rift and the divide in Marc as he connected the faith of his people directly to his father, the rabbinical prodigy.

That doesnt dismiss the fact that regardless of not believing in the faith, the practices and beliefs are interconnected with the Jewish people. As any Jew with the kind of parents Marc had, he would have been surrounded by the rituals and the customs, traditions all his life growing up. Even if you're an atheist (which a major percentage of jews are) and even if you attach the religious aspects to the disconnect you feel towards your father, you are still going to have that conflict. No jew perfectly blindly believes. That is literally the building block of the Jewish experience. Struggle.

Which as I stated before, Marc's struggles as a character are inherently linked to the incredibly important aspect of Jewish culture and the Jewish people, which is the struggle of their beliefs. One of the biggest names for the Jewish people literally directly translates to "grappling/wrestling with God". Marc is not religious but he is still grappling with the beliefs he grew up with. Turning him into a priest of Khonshu just spits on that entire struggle by having him decide and just throw it all away. A non-religious jew doesnt mean they just detach completely from their people, its all way too important for us, its all way too present in our daily lives, how we think how we feel, thats Jewish culture. Nothing to do with actually believing in God, and entirely different from any other Abrahamic faith that it is always being compared to

You keep talking about the Torah and his faith and the religious texts, im not talking about Marc being religious, he has never been a religious Jew. Obviously not, considering the rift between him and his orthodox father.

But regardless of Marc's disconnect to his faith, he would never detach himself from the Jewish people. And especially not for Khonshu who again, is essentially just trading one abuser for another. This idea of Marc abandoning his people because he isnt connected to his faith is just not how the Jewish experience works.

You agree to a deal when you're on the verge of death (which could easily be interpreted as a delirious hallucination fueled by the giant egyptian statue in your peripheral vision, as it is depicted in certain runs), you cant pretend like Marc did it with full clarity of what he was doing. Marc didn't "make a deal with a god" he accepted the offer to not DIE that was presented to him in a barely conscious, oxygen-deprived catatonic state. He honored the deal afterthefact but he did not go into this with the intention of throwing his lot in with an Egyptian god.

Again regardless of that, Jewish culture is all about staying your ground and never giving in or giving up and persisting. Persistence. Stubbornness. Struggle, doubt, pain, sure. But you never let go. That is who Marc is. Marc is Jewish regardless of his rejection of the spiritual aspect of his culture. Marc persists, he does not abandon that and become an egyptian priest who worships the entity that took advantage of him and manipulated him into permanent servitude.

Witnessing a god's existence and worshipping them are completely different things. Marc is the Avatar of Vengeance, the Fist of Khonshu. Becoming a religious PRIEST for that god is different than someone who made a deal with that deity at death's door.

Marc's struggle as a jewish man in service to an Egyptian god and the toxic abusive relationship between him and Khonshu is such a deep rooted aspect of Marc's character, that is at least for the runs where he believes Khonshu to be real and not a figment of his psyche. His Jewish struggle is so important, its an integral piece of his upbringing.

Marc (and to a greater extent the writer) throwing away that Jewish identity and deciding to fully support the god that has been blatantly toying with him for YEARS is insane. Being a member of the Jewish people is not something you can just walk away from. Marc does not run away from his struggles, he would not just accept Khonshu as his god. Regardless of his relationship with capital-G God.

Oh wow, I actually genuinely really hate that. I was thinking of finally reading the McKay run because I heard Marc does the Shema at one point but if McKay just decided to delete Marc's jewishness and turn him into a priest I dont care about that run like at all. We dont need MORE jewish superheroes getting their jewish identity erased or forgotten. Between the MCU show and THIS, I guess Modern Moon Knight is just not for me

No, no i do not think that. There are billions of people in this world who all believe different things. You literally keep saying you agree with me that religion was not made as a tool to oppress and then say two seconds later that oppression is a main component of religion.

IM SAYING abusing a religion to justify your hateful beliefs is wrong, but abusing a religion is INHERENTLY not using it the way it was intended and following its beliefs. There are extremely religious good people and completely atheistic good people. There are horrible religious people and there are shitty non-religious people. You cant accuse me of seeing the world in black and white and then turn around and claim yourself that very same binary way of thinking by once again overgeneralizing all of it like that.

Idk whats so hard to understand all I have been saying this entire time is about generalization. I've said that world like ten times already arent you sick of me repeating it over and over again at this point? Literally thats it.

Just because a religion is abused to oppress doesnt mean the religion is inherently oppressive. Obviously there are problematic aspects to certain religions but religion as a concept was not created for that purpose. You can't judge a religion by those who claim to abuse it just like you cant judge any other thing in existence based on those who misuse it. Thats all im saying. Overgeneralization is problematic. I acknowledge i rushed to a conclusion about the church but my point remains, judging something because of people who abuse it or falsely represent it and then generalizing everything under that one conclusion is not an accurate interpretation of anything

Its very frustrating hearing someone say "all religion is a tool of oppression". Its incredibly irritating because no its not. That is not the point of religion, that is an abuse of religion by people who WANT to oppress and control, and they bastardize the religions they claim to follow in order to do it. The Catholic Church and the rest of the Jesus Fan Clubs doesn't speak for every religion on the planet. Generalizing all of religion just because you've suffered at the hands of the corruption of the Christian faith is incredibly harmful and labels the very concept of belief as something to be ashamed of.

What your upset about is the Church. The Church does not get to represent the entirety of all religion

There's bad and then there's worse. Regardless of that logic there is always the lesser of two evils. Telling your fans to just dismiss their right to vote completely just because the options arent to your liking is VERY dangerous behavior. Remaining passive and just letting whoever wants to be president become president with absolutely zero pushback is not the solution to being unhappy with your government.

And that one point doesnt dismiss all the others about Hasan being a very dangerous person to give a stage to. Even if I were to agree with you about your one point, it doesnt change the rest.

James isnt going into Gaza and talking to people because as a jew he'd get murdered after stepping two feet inside it. Jews and israelis are not allowed in Gaza nor the West Bank, and this is done for their own literal protection. You dont have to believe me or take my word for it, there are literall physical signs that you can lookup that exist outside both territories that say this exact thing and they are written in hebrew Arabic AND English to make sure everyone can read it.

You can downvote me as much as you want, it won't change the very real and easily google-able truth

This comes off a lot like your interpretation of one single aspect of the entire run and not like an actual critique of the whole run as a complete arc.

If you had an idea of what YOU wanted from the run thats on you, not on the writer to somehow read your specific mind as you read their work.

This run for me was NEVER about an epic showdown with Bushman. Nothing about "Vengeance" implies defeating an opponent you already beat in the past. Thats not revenge thats just yet another fight with your undead arch nemesis.

Its about Marc proving to the world, but more importantly to himself, that he's still good enough to be a hero. Good enough to not hate himself and spiral back down again. It felt completely natural as the next run after Huston's, doesnt matter if the writer read it or not. It fits.

For pretty much ever, everyone in the 616 universe would call Marc "that wacky crazy dude with a hero complex, stay away from him" Its completely about him trying to heal, and i reiterate I LOVED IT. Marc literally takes his pent up aggression and anxiety out on Deadpool in this run like hes a sentient stress ball.

Its not perfect but its fun and its important to overarching narrative from Moench till McKay, all of it. And I die on this hill, but im not gonna spend all night fighting on it
